Edit: Just learned that the 2026 seniors were allowed to vote on who *they* wanted to dance with instead of promoting dancers that should have earned that spot by the audition process. Also amazing is the placement of dancers who pay for private lessons always seem to be much more prominently showcased. One particular teacher is quite bipolar, yelling one week and 'i brought donuts' the next, our kids are downright frighted by A. While most of the instructors here are very professional, supportive, and put the best dancers in the front, sometimes you can really tell who the 'golden child' is (sometimes as obvious as the offspring of a faculty) by how they will always be featured and front and center. New for 2025 is their SPOTLIGHT Award, which will be handed out by staff to the most Above and Beyond, and who do you think those will go to? Betting right now the same set of insiders that already get the best spots. There are also many extra fees and costs that are just added to your account without asking: including a year end 'pizza party celebration' that didn't include any actual pizza, 'team bonding' events like going to a movie, or 60second Holiday performance AND a season end show that require more makeup, shoes & costume purchases. I guess kids had a great time but no thought by staff on costs parents have to pay for these add-on. Updated to add: make sure your kid keeps an eye on their things... I've heard recently that several things have gone missing, wallets & phones gone through, cash & clothing stolen. Given the size of the number of studios I suppose there's no way to do a locker system but the casualness of the staff response to the thefts was a little troubling. I had to hear about it from the dancers as nothing was ever mentioned to the parents. Youd be better off at a smaller, more caring studio, IMO. read more

Both of my children have been dancing at WVDC since they were 2-years-old (2015 & 2016), beginning with Ms Shiyo's ballet/tap classes - she is so wonderful and patient with little ones. My kiddos now have had many teachers, including Ms Sabine for ballroom (my kids are dance partners, it's the best!), Ms Julianna for jazz, Ms Mandi for lyrical and Ms Vanessa for hip-hop. They are all such amazing teachers and fantastic choreographers. We're very fortunate to be at a dance studio with so many passionate teachers who are also so great with youth! My children have new instructors this dance season who are such great role models including Ms Morgan for tap, Ms Miranda and Ms Emiliana for ballet and Ms Natalie for lyrical. I'm overall so impressed with the range of backgrounds and experience levels of the faculty! read more

Lots of good and bad in this review...but unfortunately the bad really outweighs the good. This place was recommended to me by a couple of neighbors. Decided to try out this place, after California Sports Center. (I would rather go back to CSC after my experience here, unfortunately). Trial class: Booking a trial class was super easy, and they were very friendly. Scheduled class: My daughter is five years old, and was placed in a class that is a combination of dance and gymnastics, which I love - - there aren't too many places that have a combination of both. I like that the classes have a more structured warm-up, and they teach technique from handstands to cartwheels. I also like that they give them some free play, so they can explore the equipment on their own and have fun. I also like how they hand out scented stickers at the end, which is always super fun, and helps my daughter look forward to class every week. The weird thing about this place, is that it's not the same teacher every week. It's either Janice, or her daughter, Samantha. I understand it's important to be flexible, but I also think that consistency is very important, especially for little kids. Okay. Get this. The dance teacher, Ms. Janice, decided to change the song for my daughter's class with only a month until the performance. Want to know how I found out? My 5 year old told me. No parent communication from the teacher. When I reached out, Emma, the Assistant Director, basically said, "sorry but that's what we have to do." I get why she said that. She taught a dance with the same song as my daughter and probably didn't want two of the same songs in the performance! Shannon, the Director, got involved, at my request, and said that Ms. Janice shouldn't have changed it without her permission. Thankfully we stuck with the dance song. But yes, that meant that the performance had two of the same "boots are made for walking" songs. Yeah. Not the most organized. They also advertise that it is $100 per month, but they don't mention the ""hidden costs," especially if you sign up for the performance (only something I would suggest if you have older kids). There is a recital fee cost, a costume cost, and then some other cost that I don't remember off the top of my head. Those extra costs, in combination with certain weekends off, because of spring break or some other holiday, makes it feel more costly than it needs to be. Especially with the lack of organization, which I will go into even more, below. The performance: love that the venue is at San Jose Center of Performing Arts. It's expensive to buy tickets, but the venue itself is fantastic. I don't love that little ones don't have a chance to practice at this venue before the show. I don't love that they put random other kids from other class times with your kiddo's class for the performance. It feels rather disorganized and messy. Also, try to secure childcare the night of the performance if you have a little one. My childcare fell through and they force you to wait until the end of the show + bows + dismissal, because of "safety reasons." I'm literally writing this in the car, while my 2 year old is shrieking because it's an hour past his bedtime, and still waiting for my daughter and husband and it's 9:30 PM. Yes, it would be great to be flexible, but an exhausted toddler is a force to reckon with. When I asked further about the policy of waiting until the entire performance is done (nope, can't get the kiddo during intermission, not even if it's some emergency), Alejandra shared that they have been doing that for decades. The policy seriously feels outdated and it's obvious that whoever is in charge of that policy doesn't have little kids, because they would know what it's like to have a kiddo that is exhausted and still up an hour or two after their bedtime. Funnily enough, the show was appropriately themed as "shrek," and all the toddlers that attended will truly be ogres tomorrow. I do not recommend this dance company. They are disorganized, not empathetic, and have outdated policies. read more

Sad to say that I regret enrolling my son in this experience. Paid ~$80 a month for him to meet about one hour a week. Paid extra for costume, and even more for tickets to see him perform. Sat through hours of performances just to watch him dance for a few minutes. The event was hectic and tiring. They lock you in there. You have no option to leave early, see your child throughout the day, etc. My son is only two years old, so this concerned me. It wasn't worth it for us. This isn't to say the program is awful. I think if your child is much older, it may be worth it. Not worth it for toddlers, in my opinion, from my experience. read more

We were in the dance class for a year. My comment is primarily about the annual performance. The performance is something like 3 hours, running until something like 9-10pm, and you CANNOT get your child back until the very end, even if you explicitly ask. We have been coming to WVDC for over 1 decade!! The entire staff is amazing - lots of activities, not just dance classes to help my little one, now bigger one be a better person. Lots of life skills beyond just dancing are taught here. The staff is extremely fair, we don't always get the position, the role, or the part we want, but that's part of the learning. I paid 16 lessons for my daughter but she didn't receive them. I registered my daughter for 7 months. The academy don't open on thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, and all holy days between but you still have to pay the full months. I lost a total of $370 dollars for 16 lessons my daughter didn't receive. They said they also offer more lessons in months of 5 weeks so yes my daughter received 1 lesson more in the 7 months, it was in January. Wow, Thanks!! Also they charged me $60 dollars fee for the year registration plus $75 fee for the dance show participation of my daughter in the session, also they charged me $88 for an ugly and cheap costume...and if this is not enough they said I have to pay $40 dollars for my ticket if I want to go to the show to see my daughter participate. Of course if my other kids want to go and see their sister but they have to pay $40 each and $40 my husband. I said I can not pay that so they said I can buy the video instead so I will not go to see my daughter to her show. Today was the worst thing, they said I have to pay this month even tough they will have just the half of lessons again and I told them I don't have enough this month but I can pay just for the lessons she will have. But they said if I don't pay the full month she can not participate in the show. So I ask them at least don't charge it in my card since I need to pay my rent tomorrow, what can I do? if I already pay the fee for the show, the costume and my daughter is ready for that. But they charge it anyways and instead of charge the amount of the 4 lessons of the month they charged me 8 lessons :( I just want to cry. I didn't agree to be charged yet since I'm not sure I can continue handling this another month even though my daughter will lose the show and the money we paid for that, I was still thinking what to do the next month so I told them don't charge it but they charged it anyways. This is the worst nightmare I had ever experience in an academy and I have 3 kids almost in middle school, they took already many courses and lessons but nothing as this abusive situation. Sabine contacted me quickly and worked with me to set up the dances, music and other logistics. Her communication was clear and thorough. It helped to have a good idea for what I wanted to begin with, and Sabine was happy to help, making great recommendations for the list and number of dances. She showed up to the event on time and did such a fantastic job. My guests were thrilled with the instruction. We danced steps for a Scottish Reel, Waltz and Quadrille. The time flew by. It was the best fun I've had and many of my guests thanked me for providing such an entertaining time. It's mostly thanks to Sabine. read more

I just found out that I paid for 2 tickets ($100) for the Mountain View night recital which is on June 22 to see my niece dance her comp dances to find out all of her comp dances are on the Bascom school's night. Why did I pay all this money to see the Mountain View kids (along with my niece) only perform their recreational dance classes? I paid to see her comp routines! I'm so angry that the Mountain View comp teams will be showcased at the Bascom school night. They should not be representing Bascom! They should do their comp routines in front of their friends and families. Why is this happening? Management should rethink this. So disappointed! read more

I sadly moved out of the area. Have you ever heard the saying you don't know what you got till it's gone? My daughter has tried seven different studio and as a Mom I asked a lot of questions. No one compares to WVDC and here's why. WVDC cares about each of their dancers, encourages them, feeds their passion, respects their dreams, gives them love and support all while challenging them to be the best. The staff treats you like family, responds to your questions and ideas, and listens. I have not found this anywhere else; not even close. The dance recitals are very unorganized, chaotic, and inefficient. My niece is 3 years old and was apart of a ballet performance. There were way too many people - and everyone did not know where to go in line or what the next step of the sign up process was. When we dropped off my niece - it was loud and someone pushed my niece through as she was crying and then a stranger picked her up (pretty scary for a 3 year old). I did not like how they handled the drop off process. I agree with the suggestion below that there should be multiple dates for recitals and performances should be split. If not, act 1 and act 2 should leave at intermission. I usually don't go out of my way to write negative reviews but I hope this provides constructive feedback. My daughter has been with WVDC for about a year. she takes class at her daycare with them as well as two classes at the studio (acro/ballet and tap/ballet). I think the studio is great, the teachers have the patience of saints, and my daughter loves it. I was reading all the negative comments on the recital and wanted to weigh in. While there were a lot of people, if you read all emails that were sent it should not have been that hectic. As for dropping my toddler off with a stranger, it was easy enough to tell the people at the stage door that I wanted to wait for someone my daughter knew, that's what I did and my 2 year old walked happily away with someone she trusted. As far as the complaints of being there for hours for one minute on stage, if your planning to have your child dance this is something you should get used to, as all recitals/competitions will be the same. My kid is 3 years old and participated in the dance class via Action Day Primary Plus. We were with the program for almost a year. Decided to drop off due to the following reasons: - Poor handling of COVID and wild fire situation: They claimed their class was outdoor with social distancing but silently switched to indoor without informing parents here and there during the COVID; they assumed parents are cool with indoor dance without masks during the wild fire season. This was well before the vaccination and opening up. - Paid Break: They have 2 weeks off in the summer/winter but charge you the full month. - Silent Rate Hike: No courtesy notice about the 5-6% annual rate hike. They would rather not announce the rate increase and let parents find out about the new rate via monthly statement; most parents didn't even notice. They auto charge your credit card 1 days later. - Poor communication with parents: No advance notice about the rate hike and indoor/outdoor dance policy. - Uninspiring dance lessons: My kid did the Frozen songs almost every week and didn't care much about dance class anymore towards the end. read more

My daughter absolutely loves dancing and performing, so I hope this experience doesn't ruin that for her. She is a 3 year old and this is her first recital. It was like a zoo upon arrival and some strangers she's never seen before ushered her out of my arms screaming and crying in a fast pace because this company chooses to have all 500 kids from the company perform at the same time. There should be a better system so my daughter can at least separate with someone she knows and be able to see her Mama and Dada in the crowd. But it's just so insane!! Beautiful studio offering many classes and time options at a number of studios. The end of the year recital is phenomenal. They also arrange a lively recital photo shoot in beautiful costumes. I've taken off two stars because my daughter spends 25-30 minutes of the class (tap/Jazz) standing at the bar as the teacher dances across the floor with one child at a time. There are two teachers in the class. They could easily have each teacher take 2 students (one on each side of them). My daughter spends very little time actually dancing. I'm going to look into other classes here to see if other teachers run the class differently, but if not, I'm afraid we will not be continuing. I'm really hoping that won't be the case, though. read more

I've danced for years as a kid, through high school, competitively in college and eventually in the NFL. When I first moved to California I took classes at a few studios to get as much practice as possible. I had a friend recommend Rory's hip hop classes. He seriously made the class so much fun and helped me reach my professional dance career goals. For that alone, I recommend this studio and his classes. read more

Ok, let me start off by saying that this is was a very bad experience. I signed up my daughter she's 4 years old so there was a waiting list for her class and was super excited once they told me there was a spot open for her, but the way they communicate is stupid to be honest. They charged my card before my daughter even started I had spoken to someone and they had said they would schedule a try out and AFTER I would sign her up. I don't care what they had to say I'm not gonna pay for something BEFORE hand if my daughter don't like it. The girl on the phone tried to say "Oh well we can give her spot to someone else" PLEASEEE DO acting like they ain't other better places I can sign up my daughter to this place is honestly hilarious and I'm one of those people that don't put up with rude receptionist I don't care what company you are if these receptionist don't like their job they should get a new one making the company look pathetic! read more

Found this location while searching for dance studios online for my 6 year old daughter. I decided to call and ask for more info and was offered to have my daughter try a free class. My daughter wanted to try Tap/Jazz combo, and we arrived and being that it was our first time, we had no idea where to go, which room it was in, or who the teacher was. There was not even a host at the front desk. We even arrived 15 minutes early and that entire time, no one was there. We walked around and saw kids in classes and sat down waiting for someone to come to the desk. It was pretty obvious we were new. Once we seen the classes end, STILL no one came out. So I decided to get up again and go ask what the deal was, and what do we do since we were new to this location. I actually stumbled upon the teacher who's class we were supposed to be in as it had already started. I also noticed that the season for them was still ongoing so my daughter was extremely lost in the class but she is so outgoing she just looked at the teacher and did what she was doing in the dance. Class finishes, and I want more information about the class and enrolling, so I walked into the room after class and ask the teacher when the new season starts and how is it so, that she was to start as a beginner, if they already have a routine and what this means for my daughter with no tap experience. The teacher said I had to talk to the front desk (even though no one was there to begin with) and then proceeded to say that they had a recital coming up but she would not be in it, which I understood, considering that we are late in the season, but she could still attend class. Had I known she would not be in a beginner starting class, I would of taken us elsewhere. Who really wants their daughter in a studio and her being the only one that does not know the choreography? I decided this studio was not where we should be dancing, due to lack of communication, unprofessionalism and misrepresentation of the class. Also, parking lot is extremely small. Very negative experience at the 2018 recital. I echo the comments that other parents have mentioned regarding complete disorganization, lack of communication and little respect for parent's time and energy (especially when you have another child to take care of). My daughter was on stage for 1 minute and we couldn't even see her, yet we had to spend 6 hours on a Saturday morning with our infant, on a show that could have been entertaining if it wasn't so badly organized. read more
