Her new work with Sarga has had more of a profound affect on me than ashiatsu, deep tissue or pressure points.

So on Thursday, I decided that something had to change. I needed to do something for myself and my baby to help get me back in a better place. Enter: Modern Mama Wellness Center. I had heard about the prenatal yoga offered by Jackie and her business from a friend of mine, and considering the first class is free, I thought it couldn't hurt. I signed up for and attended Saturday morning's class. And wow, did it help me refocus my energies and feel better. I love yoga and have taken part in several classes through the years, but this one was different. It started with the seven of us in the class going around and introducing ourselves, saying how far along we are and what our biggest obstacle from the last week was. The entire class is low impact, which you can imagine for prenatal yoga. But even being low impact, I could tell immediately that it was making a difference. First of all, I had difficultly even keeping my eyes closed for the relaxation exercises at the beginning. That's how tense I was to start. But this got better throughout the class. Jackie included tidbits about pregnancy and labor throughout the class, such as how you can sit differently and use yoga poses to get the baby in a better position. And then at the end of the class, she came around and gave everyone neck and scalp massages with essential oil and placed warm rice packs on the back of your necks. I didn't have any trouble relaxing especially after that. Modern Mama is in a small building behind Louisville Family Chiropractic on New La Grange Road, near the malls on Shelbyville Road. Definitely know that before you go. And my one suggestion to Modern Mama would be to provide class prices on the website, social media or even on a pamphlet. I want to signup, but it's hard to keep the different price levels straight. Jackie also is a doula, I believe, and Modern Mama offers infant massage, childbirth classes and other wellness workshops, including a "comfort class for dads," which goes over how dads can comfort moms in labor. I can't wait to go back for another prenatal yoga class and for these classes to help me get stronger and prepare for having this baby.

I have been coming here about once every other week for the past couple of months. The classes are…read moreaffordable and small/intimate (with a max of 8 students each time). I kind of wish all yoga was this chill, with plenty of reminders to go at your own pace. I especially dig the Monday class when Ester works in some restorative poses towards the end of every class, along with some adjustments and lavender heated rice bags at the end. The sign up and payment process is super easy (online sign up, Venmo or cash payment). Every class has a short intro/sharing time at the beginning and the instructors are really kind and empathetic about the woes of pregnancy. It's a good way to get into the right head space. Also, I always always feel better after in terms of low back and hip pain, so that's a big plus!

Her class was tonight. It was $35, and there were a handful of other moms in the class. And the info was well worth the money and time. What immediately struck me about Ashley was that she was not judgmental about how long we've been breastfeeding or why were were stopping, and she was supportive of our choices. She gave such great info on breastfeeding in general, how to gently end it, methods we may see online that aren't worth the time and other tips and tricks along the way. "Delay, distract, replace" will be in my thoughts as I transition my toddler. I would not hesitate working with Ashley for any lactation needs. She is an understanding ally that mommas definitely need.

She asked my input on my goals for breast feeding & what I would like to pursue or have as an end result, she explained what that plan looked like and makes this new Mom rest easier now that I know some tips & tricks. Will be returning! A huge thank you to Ashley!

This woman is not only personable and kind, but she is also incredibly knowledgeable and experienced as a midwife and sound in her medical understanding of birth and prenatal care. Do yourself a favor, and pray to God that she is available to take you on as a client! Even if you live an hour away, I promise you, she's worth the "inconvenience." Emily is so thorough in her care and so genuine in her compassion for you as a person. She easily became one of my favorite people on this planet. Unsure or uneducated about midwifery? From our very first meeting, it was clear that Emily views pregnancy and birth with a deeper, more holistic perspective than a traditional OB. When I mentioned past hormone issues, she immediately had a thoughtful plan and ensured we monitored everything closely with lab work and had a solution ready if needed. I felt truly seen and cared for. Staying in contact with Emily was incredibly easy. She was always responsive, open, and supportive -- I never once felt like I was a burden or just another appointment on her calendar. Even in the final days before birth, when her schedule was packed and I was still working full-time, she made sure I felt prioritized. She kept me updated, was flexible when needed, and never made rescheduling stressful. On the day of the birth, she was in constant contact and headed over as soon as I felt ready. The birth itself was absolutely magical. I felt empowered, in control, and safe -- all because Emily was by my side. She brought such a calm, steady presence that allowed me to focus fully on the experience. Since giving birth Tuesday evening, Emily has checked in multiple times, making sure I'm recovering well and feeling supported. Honestly, I feel like I hit the jackpot having her as my care provider -- and even more than that, I feel like I've made a lifelong friend. Emily is a true angel. She genuinely cares about the people she serves, and you're never just a number to her. Anyone lucky enough to work with her is in the absolute best hands.

I had a C-section (questionable whether it was necessary) with my first, and wished I had an advocate to make sure I was more well-informed in making decisions, and especially to have extra physical & emotional support. I felt her calm & positive energy would transfer well to helping me throughout the delivery. I wanted a natural delivery this time for several reasons. She had assisted several VBAC deliveries in the past. Molly gave us so much knowledge & coached my husband in assisting me throughout the birthing process. She used constant pain management techniques (massage, counter pressure, etc), and various birthing position recommendations when things became difficult or I wasn't progressing. She also helped me stay focused & relax between contractions. I had intense back labor too, so she worked extremely hard to help me manage the pain. After 21 hours of natural labor, she helped me make a difficult decisions to have an epidural which could've slowed my laboring progress. However, she communicated with the nurses and advocated for me to receive the help I needed to progress, while keeping baby safe of course, and avoid the OR. After 32 hours, plus 2 hours of pushing (which she also offered great emotional & physical support through out), we met our sweet baby girl. I am so grateful we had her honest, compassionate support. We had to make some difficult decisions & were so grateful for her input & support, especially when we had to make the next best choice for the delivery of our baby. She kept in touch with me often throughout my pregnancy, and after delivery, making sure I was doing okay and answering any questions (this was on top of our meetings prior to the birth, and after). She also provided breastfeeding help whenever I needed it. She even managed to take some beautiful photos of labor & delivery as she was able to. They are priceless, and I'm so glad she took them.
