By taking a daily cocktail of Sovaldi, Diclenza & Ribivirin it cleared the Hep C outta there!! Basically, a "cure"; she's still showing signs in blood tests of zero amount of Hep C virus. But the damage was done- the particular genotype she had had been a nasty one & it left behind some scarring which turned out to be cirrhosis- the sick irony! She doesn't drink, hasn't had one for decades, but she ends up with something most drunks end up with: cirrhosis! But, so the downside to the worst HCV genotypes is the damage that can be done even after and if you've been treated with these new, powerful antivirals that are efficacious in getting the hep c count down to a zero level which effective makes you cured - just stay as healthy as you can and see your dr at least twice a year. Anyway, since living in AZ since 2017, I finally got in touch with the Advanced Liver Center at Banner University Hospital in downtown Phoenix. The main "provider" with whom I interact the most at Banner University is Gerard Quigley who has turned out to be a really easygoing yet intelligent man who, at least in my wife's case, has been helping her get through this without having to worry about not-too-far-down-the-road health concerns and since her liver is functioning pretty well and the medication she's been taking for about a year now are both positive outcomes for her situation- over a year and 2 blood tests later, she's still doing relatively well. Thanks, Gerard Quigley and everyone else on the team that's working on her medical issues (at least the ones related to my liver); she is feeling better than she was last February (2020)! Lesser or no abdominal pain; mostly it's the right side - most likely due to her degenerative disc disorder. Thanks!

At first I was referred to University of Arizona Medical Center's transplant program. Getting an appointment with them took months. When I finally got an appointment the doctor I saw was surly and dismissive, taking time out of his busy day to blame me for his staff's refusal to give me an earlier appointment. Later, when I needed help with medication approvals for my new insurance my requests sat for weeks in their office with no one bothering to respond. Long story short, after the phenomenal treatment I received at the Medical University of South Carolina, UAMC was scary and unprofessional. Looking for a better group to work with, I learned that Banner Good Samaritan in Phoenix had a transplant program and that they visited Tucson (actually Oro Valley) monthly to see patients. I made an appointment (which I got within the month) and saw their doctors. I was very impressed, the doctors and staff were excellent. They took time to make sure everything was in order and to actually get to know me as a person and not just a medical chart. I really like seeing the folks in this practice. My original doctor has moved away but my new doctor is just as wonderful and I enjoy seeing her on my now twice yearly visits. If there is one caveat, it would be the same as, unfortunately, most medical practices these days. The administrative staff can be a little lax at times. I find it is best to speak directly with someone on the medical staff or leave a message on the doctor's voicemail if I want to sure of getting a message through. I don't know if they use a pool with the hospital for administrative services or what, but those folks tend to be a little hit or miss sometimes. Other than that, though, I couldn't ask for better care.

And I don't say that lightly…read more It's not just the poor aesthetics of the facility which are bad enough but the unprofessional, disrespectful staff that make this location truly unacceptable. I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment, only to find the front desk completely unattended. Several staff members were sitting off to the side but deliberately avoided eye contact. After standing there for about three minutes, I finally asked, "Is anyone working?" Only then did two women appear from behind the wall, already irritated that I dared to ask for assistance. From that moment on, the interaction was filled with passive-aggressive behavior and reactive hostility. If I said "thank you," I was ignored yet when others said the same, they received cheerful responses. When I politely asked questions about the intake form, I had to repeat myself several times while the receptionist pretended not to hear me. Even returning the iPad became an opportunity for them to be petty; I set it down near one woman, and the other snapped that I "could have handed it to her" then they exchanged looks as if I was the problem. Their behavior also carried undertones of bias and discrimination, which made the entire experience even more uncomfortable. To make matters worse, I later discovered that I'd been misled about my insurance coverage. Originally, I had a tele-health appointment scheduled, but they told me my insurance no longer covered remote visits. I took them at their word and rescheduled for an in-person appointment. After sitting in the waiting area for over 30 minutes watching others who arrived after me get called back I decided to verify directly with my insurer. To my disbelief, I learned they had lied: my plan still does cover tele-health visits. By that point, it was clear they were weaponizing time to retaliate against a patient who simply expected basic respect. So, I canceled my appointment and left. It's no wonder this clinic has such low ratings. The staff here are rude, dishonest, and emotionally unfit to work in health care. 0/10 - would not recommend. Anyone working in patient care who behaves with pettiness, revenge, or prejudice needs to seek mental health treatment themselves before being allowed to serve the public. No patient deserves to be treated this way.

This Dr was of absolutly no help whatsoever. He said it sounded like hemorrhoids (did not do any physical exam at all) and advised that my husband take benefiber. Also said that my husband probably wouldn't live thru the surgery or treatments for colon cancer so didn't advise a colonoscopy!!! Well a month later my husband was still bleeding so I called and requested an appointment for a second opinion with another doctor at Arizona Digestive Health - I was told that they did not do SECOND OPINIONS???? When i pushed back on that the front desk told me they would ask Dr Gulinson if he would release my husbands case to another doctor and if he would they would call me back within 2 days. Well never heard from them - probably for the best - so we are going to see another doctor in a couple weeks. I would stay away from this practice all together.

He has a great way about him, he explains everything, making sure you understand. On the other hand, I am angry about the operation of the practice. Before I had the colonoscopy, they do "me" the service of checking on my health insurance.They nicely called me back to tell me my deductible and this is a screening so my insurance covers it for 100%. After the procedure, I received my insurance company's "explanation of benefits" that showed I have to pay for the procedure, surgicenter, etc. The insurance company explained to me the doctor had coded it as diagnostic, not preventative, therefore, it did not come under the 100% (free) coverage. I discussed it with the office manager and the billing staff who told me various reasons it had to be coded that way and "we have many other patients who are surprised they have to pay for such a procedure." Various reasons given for the diagnosis were that polyps were found and that my patient history made it diagnostic. The practice never allowed my situation to be discussed with the doctor or his medical assistant.My message to the doctor via the patient portal was answered by the office manager. My voicemail to the doctor's medical assistant was answered by the office manager, as well. In addition, I was told that the people who researched my insurance coverage and told me it would be free, normally would also tell me that it might not be free. I understand that my "problem" about free vs paying has a lot to do with the insurance companies, health care system, etc.That is not the practice's fault. It is quite obvious, especially since the practice has a vested interest, that the people that research the insurance coverage easily forget to warn the patient that free colonoscopies are not necessarily free. Mine ended up costing me almost $2000 in payments to the surgicenter, doctor, etc.
