No idea how I've never stopped here before but what a find…read more The UNA Center is one of only three in the entire world which is pretty wild and it originally opened in 1975 near Grant before moving to the Speedway location in 2003. There's real history tied to UNICEF here and you can feel the purpose behind everything in the space. Fun fact UNICEF was originally created in 1946 to provide emergency food and healthcare to children after World War II and today it operates in over 190 countries. So many beautiful pieces and honestly the prices are great for what you're getting. It all supports a meaningful cause and the service was genuinely kind and helpful. I loved the woven baskets made from telecommunications wires from South Africa super unique and detailed. Also the incense cacao bars and singing bowls are so good I could have spent way too long browsing. There are pieces from all over the world and it really feels like a global collection rather than a typical shop. I ended up snagging a beautiful bracelet and a unique woven hat and already know I'll be back.

I leaned in and made eye contact (who knew how long this dog-centered drivel would go on), yet, apparently, I remained not worth waiting upon. Both staff members acknowledged me as they wished me farewell (!) after I gave up and left the store empty handed; 'seemed purposefully rude by that point.

The store has broad selection of seasonal and year-round wares that are colorful and interesting. All the above said, I have two issues with the place. First, the seasonal products like Talavera and pottery are priced higher than other merchants by 20% and I think that may be due to their location and the amount of inventory--my best advice is to wait for a sale. Second is the lack of a public restroom which I find ridiculous--they advertise on social media so their audience is broad, after a two-hour trip being told you can use a restroom at Trader Joe's is ridiculously inconvenient. Would I recommend The Happy Saguaro? Yes and no, if you're in the area or enroute to other destinations, it's worth a stop. If you're looking for something in particular you have to have, call and it can be worth the drive but realize you may be paying for it.

I love that it is tucked away in a cute vintage little alley way of an old building, it almost feels like ducking into a train station waiting platform. The shop itself feels whimsical & the lighting and decor really helps add to the ambiance. They had a wonderful selection of products from a number of local artists. You can find prints, stickers, crochet plushies, jewelry, cups, taxidermy, insect specimens, and much more tucked away into this little shop. Although the store was a little smaller than I expected (width wise), the owners did a fantastic job with picking out the perfect shelves and displays to make the store not feel cluttered. It was lovely looking around at everything the shop had to offer. I ended up grabbing a pair of earrings and some delightfully scented incense and my daughter picked out a print she wanted. My mother & step-dad also ended up buying a few things while we were there. During check out I was able to pick out a free stone from a little dish she had on the counter, there was a nice assortment of moon and star shaped stones to choose from. She also put everything in a little gift bag with a little bit of tissue paper to keep everything in place. Next time I am back in Tucson, I am sure I will stop by again to see what is new!
