After several years of paying a monthly fee to cover vet visits for my cat, I was appalled at the…read morecharges that would have applied had I gone through with euthanasia and cremation at Village Vets Dundrum. Up until that point, my vet visits had been covered. But for the final consultation with a vet, the charge was going to be 160 euro. Cremation and euthanasia would have been 344, with a required "cremation package" of an additional 380 euro minimum for a paw print of the cat and a "casket" or paper container of ashes. The total cost for euthanising my cat would have been about 780 euro. This approach to end of life care for my cat seemed to be the epitome of taking advantage of a vulnerable pet owner. The independent vet down the street will charge me less than half that for a cremation with ashes returned. If I don't want the ashes returned, the cost will be 130 euro (and perhaps I will make a donation to the DSPCA). Corporate vets have the means to build shiny premises and hire advertising agencies to write slogans that include terms like "family" and "village" and "care". I have no complaints about the nice young vets who work for Village Vets, although I never saw one who had more than 10 years experience, which would indicate that this corporate is hiring young vets who they can pay less. Still, for anyone seeking a vet I would NOT recommend Village Vets. Look past the bells and whistles of corporate gloss and find an independent vet, if at all possible.

The vets themselves know how to expertly treat your pets, while the care given by the veterinary nurses was such a comfort to Buddy while he was so unwell. I simply could not recommend this veterinary clinic more

A proud but very shaken dad takes his first born son home on a very wet and windy Saturday night,…read moreit is the start of an adventure that many have undertaken in the past and what a whirlwind it is! One of the first things we do is introduce junior to Missey, the family cat, she is less than impressed but decides she'll put up with it.... what ever it is. Sunday morning life started in the usual manner, Q gets up, mourns his lost freedom, gets over it, puts on the kettle, feeds the cat, changes a nappy, lets the cat out. Some hours later cat arrives to the back door, Q lets her in, she just about gets herself over the door stop before she falls over. This is very not good, it's a bank holiday in March, the vet is closed, I have a 2 day old child and partner that needs looking after and now Missey is in trouble. Q calls the emergency hospital (you cant just turn up, you need an appointment) and fairly pelts up the N11 to UCD. I could go on for hours here, it was all terribly traumatic and fraught but bottom line is cat got a hell of a thump from something, her front leg was shattered,. UCD rebuilt the leg and put plates in it.. This all took months. I cant imagine what we would have done if the emergency hospital wasn't there, we owe them a lot. Other things to note, the hospital is only open out of regular surgery hours and it costs a fortune, thank jeebus for pet insurance!

They had a new shift if student vets come in laughing and being loud meanwhile a poor girls dog had just died.
