This train was booked for Mother's Day and we chose tickets that included the "high tea" and table seating. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The snacks were underwhelming and seemed to be passed around pretty inconsistently. We booked tickets for the Polar Express a couple months ago. Showed up today for the trip and waited and waited. Several others were there too. No employees, everything locked up. Finally, a man comes by and tells us there will be no train ride. They did not have any rides leaving from Springdale at all. Now we have to call tomorrow to get our money refunded. Very poor business management, not to mention an upset toddler who didn't get to ride the train. read more

I love train rides. We had planned to do the full day from Springdale to Van Buren. But ended up on the half day run to Winslow. The train leaves Springdaleand heads through all the communities along the way. But a lot of areas are run down. Once you are past the town you see lots of trees and mostly it. The train goes over a trestle and through tunnel. Then, turn around, and you go back to Springdale. The attendant was very nice and kept filling our lemonades. I had a turkey sandwich, and that was tasty. People around brought board games to play. So we were kind of bored on the ride back. It's a little pricy for what it us but at least we got to experience it. read more

Took the trip from Springdale to Van Buren. The ride was fine but because of trees growing next to tracks there is often a limited view. The guide was terrible and needs a good script, too may ums, while he tried to remember what he wanted to say. The breakfast of pastries and baked goods, fresh fruit, accompanied by bottled water or coffee (as described online) was a basket of packaged baked goods and I got a 6 ounce styrofoam cup of coffee, no refills. The charcuterie plate - chefs choice of local cheeses, artisanal cured meat served with a selection of French pickles and seasonal accouterments was a joke. I am attaching a photo. We took the trip from Springdale to Van Buren. Though it's about an hour by car, it's 2.5 hours by train. Once in Van Buren, the customers have to stay on the train while they move the engine to the other end of the trai n so they can take another group of customers to Winslow and back. We spent the required 3 hours in Van Buren. The train was 30 minutes late returning from Winslow. Then we had to wait another 20 minutes for the engine switch, after which the Winslow customers are unlloaded at a snail's pace. It's a long day, made longer because of the intervening trip to Winslow. We would not take this excursion again--can't recommend it. read more

We took our excursion on March 19, 2022 and drove up from Little Rock to Springdale. We had looked online and it said that they were closed and on the website they even had a covid-19 announcement saying that all excursions during the month of March were annulled so we thought maybe that was the case but we drove up anyway and just barely made it onto the train. It departed at 8:00 and we got there at like 8:06 but as we were driving we got a call asking if we were still coming and they waited on us to get on the train so I really appreciated that. The train ride itself was very nice and relaxing. Lots of history and beautiful scenery. The stop in Van Buren wasn't anything too crazy, their downtown area isn't the biggest but there was enough there for us to be entertained until the train came back to get us. The ride back seemed really long and my girlfriend and I both fell in and out of sleep as the train rocked us down the tracks. All in all I'd give the ride a 5 out of 5 and we'll be back in the fall so we can see the autumn colors. read more

You know, my experience with this Railroad was actually really disappointing, but I'm not reviewing them lower because it technically wasn't ALL "their fault" since it was raining and the air was cold (elaborated below). We booked tickets for the Fall Dinner Excursion. Cool, right? Well, I thought so too, especially since they advertised it as a scenic journey down the tracks to take in some beautiful fall colors while enjoying your dinner. WRONG! Wrong in so many ways. I booked our tickets for the beautifully PICTURED dome car so we could really have the whole experience. Geez, what a joke. We sat at a table with two strangers in the dome car, which totally sucked. Forcing conversation with two strangers for three hours was really lame. The Railroad should absolutely not "pack the train" to get as many people in as possible. Let people have their own tables. Also, to elaborate on the dome car, you couldn't see a thing outside. The windows had such dark tint on them that it was impossible to see outside. Plus the cold outside mixed with the people inside equaled some major window fog. We might as well have been sitting in a black box. For the food, it was good. But again, I did not appreciate having to share my appetizer with two strangers. Seriously, what are you thinking AMR event coordinators? I personally love trains and this was one of the most uneventful (and expensive) train rides I've taken. You ride to Winslow, sit and wait then come back to Springdale. You don't get off or walk around. My recommendation for you, if you feel the urge to take a train ride like this in the future, is to go during the day when it's sunny for a lunch ride. THAT would have made the ride worth it. Otherwise skip it, or at least skip the dome car on the PM train rides. Overall, the event was coordinated nicely (aside from the PM train ride idea), with appetizers in the museum beforehand and some magician entertainment during the train ride. I'll ride their train line again, but only during the day! read more

Halloween car was so lame. Walk through one train car for $10/person. What a disappointment

First I will say that the trains are a fun little jaunt back in time. The Ozark natural beauty and that of the Boston Mountains is unmatched and I would give a 5 start rating to them. As for the management of the company running the trains, they totally "derailed" the 5 star rating and ruined our experience. Since I am on a pun run I will say that there is apparently no one driving the train. They are disorganized, give you wrong information and have no clue about customer comfort. And despite being under the TSA umbrella they have complete disregard for the TSA Covid mandates. The heat was not working in one of the cars before we left the station. Management opted to go forward anyway. At about Winslow the cold became unbearable for passengers. So despite our difficulty in getting tickets due to stated social distancing protocols they stopped the train (after several people were moved already) to re-seat the rest in the now overcrowded other cars. During our initial orientation we were told that the train was under TSA authority and we must mask. None othe the other passengers now crowding into our space were masked or requested to wear a mask. As the young "conductor" revisited the rules of the car with the new passengers he said masking is requested "Yada yada" indicating to me he didn't really require it. None of the newbies heeded the half baked request either. We said something to him and he said there was nothing he could do. Later, a more seasoned conductor came in and told them they were under TSA jurisdiction and masks were required. They heeded that request. The young conductor was quite annoying with his attempt to relay history and ranted endlessly during the whole rest of the trip. We disembarked in Van Buren and were told to be back at the station by 2. The train did not arrive until 3 with no explanation nor apology. Our seats were given to someone else and we were seated in lesser accommodations and told "we need to adapt and overcome". My response was "wow" and the young conductor threatened to get his supervisor. Staff were supposed to clean for Covid during the passenger swap. That didn't happen either. One of their "in between" passengers left a cup of coffee on the floor across the aisle. It spilled all across the whole floor due to the jostling and ruined my leather purse which was now on the floor because we lost our seats that had extra room. l can accept the loss if the purse, I'm just hoping we weren't exposed to Covid since they weren't following any protocols at all! Bad experience...I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

My experience with the Arkansas Missouri Railroad was great! We went for the "Polar Express" event they run before Christmas. My daughter absolutely loved it! The old fashion style train ride including meeting Santa, singing Christmas carols, hot chocolate and cookies made for an awesome time! The train moved super slow for this event, not sure if that is the way for their other ones. The scenery outside wasn't anything special - the train just went from Springdale to Johnson (I think?), but it was fun for the kids!! read more

This was a fun adventure! Started at Springdale AR, going to Van Buren AR, then back to Springdale! The trip was from 8am to 5-5:30ish with about an 3 hour layover in Van Buren. Our staff on our coach were ever so nice and very entertaining! They made sure we had everything we needed! There was 2 elder ladies and one Filipino man on our coach. We couldn't have asked for better staff! We all laughed and had great fun on the ride there and back with our train staff! They have snacks on the train, everything on the train is 1$ pop, water , chips, muffins , crackers and much more. So bring some cash with you or pack your own! Our coach was built in 1954 if I recall correctly and was very beautiful. We had tables and chairs that we all got to sit at. Might be a good idea to bring cards or something fun to play for the ride. When you get off in Van Buren, ride the trolley it's free, tips welcomed and Janet was very friendly and took us to the Drennen Scott home which is also a free tour and a must see! Tons of shops to shop at or browse and a few places to eat! Or you can pack a lunch there is a park right at the train depot and shaded. Also check Groupon for train tickets they always have good deals :) read more

If you take this tour be sure to go first class in the dome car. Then you get a 360 degree view. Well worth the extra money. The fall colors were beautiful and all of the employees were awesome. Please remember to tip them as they deserve it. The only downside is we went in November but it was so hot and stuffy that it was very uncomfortable all day long. The other thing is the windows were extremely dirty. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't do it again. read more
