Our tour started at the gift shop which has some great souvenirs and books. Our guide was really knowledgeable and had been giving tours for about 20 years and was able to speak to restorations and changes that had been made in that time. He speaks at length about the English Clarke family, how they came to sit up their home here, and how it remained largely authentic in many ways with some key restoration. This great estate was saved from demolition, and you can see the care that's gone into it from the Friends of Hyde Hall since. The guide was able to answer all the group's questions on the family who lived here and the objects on display, including what was original and what the functionality was. He also said some details get more depth in other specialty tours, and I was very intrigued by some of their events and holiday features. The Clarkes may have wanted a nice rustic manor, but its downside to tourists is that it's not the easiest place to get to. I definitely recommend checking this place out and the nearby state park.

The exhibits begin with the Revolutionary War (focusing on Burgoyne's invasion) and continuing clockwise take you through Vietnam. It also has an impressive Naval exhibit. I believe I was there for more than two hours. The exhibits included placards explaining what you are viewing. Of course the central theme is NYS's connections to each war, particularly the contributions of the famed NYS National Guard. Many of the relics were either made in NYS or presented to the museum by NYS veterans. If you admire military weaponry this is the place to visit.

This is an interesting outdoor place to come and visit. Words cannot describe the gentlemen…read morespending 40 years to complete this. You have to come and see for yourself the hours of shaping stones with hand tools to be an outdoor art piece that is beautiful to see, walk around to enjoy. There are park benches around where you can sit and enjoy a snack and take in all the different levels of this outdoor artwork. The entry to the park includes a road that you have to share with in/out traffic. Drive slowly and turn out if needed to let the other traffic pass. Be patient and you will enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Cost: $11 online. In person is $1 extra Tip: 1) Purchase tickets online. As we were leaving there was a sign that said park at full capacity and only those with pre-purchased tickets were allowed into the park. 2) Main parking lot can get full fast. It wasn't until after we parked and went to the ticketing office there was a sign for overflow parking. 3) I did not see a bathroom anywhere, so plan accordingly.
