You don't need to be an "art snob" to appreciate this Van Gogh exhibit. I know little about art and could care less about brush stroke technique, paint composition, canvas type, and many other artistic related factors. But I did find this exhibit enjoyable. It's divided into three phases. Phase one displays a variety of Van Gogh's paintings (not the originals) and describes when each was painted and what the artist was experiencing in life at that time. There are several life-size reconstructions of his paintings, e.g., his bedroom in Arles, France, and they are identified as recommended photo opportunities. Some people might spend an hour just in this section, I was ready to move on after ten minutes. Phase two is the large 360-degree projection room with beach chairs spread about to relax in while taking in the images constantly changing and moving around the four walls and on the floor. This was the part that I enjoyed the most as I got to relax and marvel at the technology employed to seamlessly move the images created to represent the characteristics of the paintings being referred to. There is some narrative, background sound effects, and music throughout this presentation. I did see some people appearing to be napping in their beach chairs. This phase probably lasts about 20 or 30 minutes. Phase three consists of an opportunity to experience Van Gogh's work while wearing a virtual reality headset. This costs extra. I didn't chose to explore this phase so I can't provide further information. After a casual stroll through the gift shop, were you able to purchase Van Gogh beach chairs, program soundtracks, umbrellas, t-shirts, hats, and many other "souvenirs," we took advantage of the clean restrooms upstairs in the armory. Total time spent, 70 minutes. Free parking is available in designated lots behind the Schenectady Armory.

The Van Gogh Immersive Experience in the Schenectady Armory was outstanding. Adults and children loved it. Happy memories of a fun time that was also educational. We parked in one of several designated free parking lots that was a very short walk to the entry door. We got there at 10:00 am on Friday, July 22, and the doors opened on time. The blast of cool air as we entered was invigorating and welcome since we are in a hot spell. The staff is welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful -- well trained! The exhibit can be best described in the photos I will post. Bonus: the Gift Shop was great. The variety of quality merchandise was excellent. The SchenectadybArmory is on the National Historic Registry.

I had no expectations when our granddaughter selected this exhibit as a way to spend her 21st birthday. Wow, was I ever glad we went! Not only did I learn about the artist, but I was able to develop an appreciation of his vast catalogue of works. The exhibit is laid out to accommodate crowds without feeling crowded. The immersive part was a wonderful experience of becoming part of the paintings. I absolutely loved the Virtual Reality add on. It was like walking through France into the paintings. Made me smile and laugh throughout. THe best part, however were the staff. Everyone was so helpful and upbeat. They took pictures of us in the exhibits with our own cameras, not trying to sell photos, and encouraged us to interact with the exhibits when appropriate. My family had a wonderful day out. Thanks to all the staff who made us feel so very welcome.

Really unusual- not like any exhibit you've ever seen. I really appreciated the ability to see ALL the paintings in a series, even though they weren't the originals. Leave enough time so you're not rushed.

Saw a lot about this online and had to buy tickets. I like how we were given a cup of hot tea before the experience. Overall nicely done. An interactive and fun way to honor a legendary artist and gain more knowledge about him.

Fantastic that this tour is in the Capital District. You have no excuses. Support art.....support when Cap District gets a major tour/event.....support Schenectady. If you have seen another version of this show in NYC or other venue I will say now - it is not the same, so don't expect that. And, you know what, why should it be? It's like a traveling exhibit - from museum to museum, it will not be exactly the same, but you still get what you came for. I can also say that, what is different, is in some ways better. At the start of the visit you will be immediately immersed and impressed and it only gets better from there and culminates to a super terrific virtual reality experience. This was my husband's first time - he did not see the NYC show with me and he enjoyed this immensely. Van Gogh: The Experience is an attraction that can (and will) be appreciated by anyone from ages 8 to 80 (as they use to say!) :-) There is ample parking in the neighborhood and there is a designated free lot for visitors to the show. All parking is within a minute to a five minute walk. Also within walking distance are several places to eat and/or get a drink before or after the show. Trust me - get your tickets and don't miss out. The exhibit will be here from May through sometime in August. And a special "shout out" to Brianna, one of the event staffers who welcomed us and took our picture. All of the employees are super friendly and helpful.

This was an incredible way to spend a few hours! We brought our 3 year old son and he was wonderful because there were so many lights/colors/beautiful things to watch. The staff who works there is AMAZING and went above and beyond to make this experience incredible! The VIP experience was absolutely worth it. We will definitely be back! There was lots of information to read, a coloring area, a VR experience for people who paid for the VIP, and an incredible (roughly) 30 minute experience where you sit and watch his artistic works, which was our favorite part. There is stuff for people of all ages to enjoy. Our group included a 62 year old, two people in their 40's, a 17 year old and a toddler. We had a great time! If only Van Gogh could see the legacy he left behind, as he gets the recognition we came to learn he never really got when he was alive.

We had about 40 people on the bus and all were extremely friendly. The bus made a 20 minute stop on the way down & back so we could stretch our legs and get a snack. Dinner was at Plain and Fancy, an Amish style restaurant where we ate as much as we wanted. We stayed at AmishView Inn & Suites, clean and great staff with a fantastic buffet breakfast. This is all included in the trip costs. The next morning we stopped at an Amish Bakery where I picked up some fantastic Cinnamon Buns to take home. Then we went to the Theater to see the show. I have to say it was the most impressive show I've ever seen, including Broadway shows. Throughout the trip, Cathy kept us informed about everything, giving us tips on what to look for. Throughout the trip, George our driver would have my walker ready as soon as I stepped off the bus. I can't think of anything to complain about, staff were helpful, fun and informative and truly added to making this a memorable experience.

I am sorry to be writing this letter but feel I have no choice. The repair work that was done on my…read moreRuth Duckworth sculpture is extremely disappointing and frankly unacceptable. I went into this with realistic expectations. I did not expect to see a completely invisible restoration, but when I finally had the opportunity to inspect the "restored" piece I was shocked by how crude the work was. The section that was reattached does not align properly with the section it had been broken off from, at the joint line they are two different heights. The wide and boldly visible bond line between the two sections is very distracting and its surface is irregular and unsightly At the edge where the two pieces connect there is an open area that's missing material. I have shown images to two longtime museum restoration experts I know and asked for their opinion. They were reluctant to critique another restorer's work but in spite of their professional reticence one said, "That this could look much better." The other restorer noted "it should have been possible to achieve a far less visible (though not invisible) joint." I came to the Williamstown Art Conservation Center after speaking with other restorers who said the size and weight of the sculpture put the job beyond their comfort zones. The poor quality of repair work displayed on the Duckworth seems to indicate that the Williamstown team should have said the same. It would have saved me a great deal of time and money as well as avoiding WACC having a very unhappy customer. Now I need to find a more knowledgeable person who will first have to undo the work the Williamstown team has done before they can improve and bring the sculpture to a presentable condition. The Williamstown Art Conservation Center has an excellent reputation, but this very disappointing repair certainly does not live up to it. Douglas Heller Heller Gallery NYC

We have just returned from ten fabulous days in Israel, thanks to your organization…read more I particularly want to acknowledge three of you. First off, Pam Pearlmutter, our trip planner, was incredible in creating a memorable tour that included all of the important, and even some of the lesser-but-no-less interesting, sites. What I truly appreciated was the ease in dealing with her, her availability and ability to change her initial plans to suit and accommodate our wishes, and the diversity of the sites on the trip that pleased ALL of us: we were seven traveling on a private tour. Pam has been to Israel many times and knew about places and opportunities that we would never have been aware of, were it not for her! THANKS, Pam! Second, in addition to the incredible sites, the trip came to life because of our tour guide--DAVID LESHNICK, an American-born Israeli citizen/educator/administrator and fundraiser, now incredible tour guide, whose wealth of knowledge and ability to impart it to ALL of us (ages 6 to umpteen!) was a feat in itself. Warm, inspiring, a teacher/story-teller/passionate Israeli enthusiast, with a ready smile, an even disposition--even when our youngest members were tired and trying at the beginning and end of some days, with a sweet sense of humor, and an obvious desire to make us love his adopted country the way he does. The breadth of his knowledge and the way he conveyed so many different aspects of past, way past, and present history, his broad information about all of the places we visited, and his welcome desire to take us all by the hand and show us his country in a realistic and loving way--with all of its problems and all of its triumphs. "Awesome" was the way our ten-year-old described him. Our six-year-old learned SO much from him, obviously enjoyed his sense of humor, and at the end of the trip drew a fairly accurate map of all of the places we had been, naming them and placing them where they belonged on the map: the Red Sea, the Dead Sea, the Mediterranean, the countries surrounding Israel, and so on. We were all impressed by how much HE got out of the trip. And on the day when the 10 and 13 year old were having a somber but memorable experience at Yad Vashem, he and I were dropped off and later picked up at the Jerusalem Zoo where we had a terrific time! From the moment we met up with David--and our driver ASAF COHEN (who was also so accommodating and friendly and helpful)--we felt comfortable and so well taken care of. David also suggested some alternative and additional places to visit that were not included on our initial plans, and we loved every place he took us to. I cannot say enough good things about our guide and driver. They were perfect! Lastly, I want to thank Ayelet Tours for making the trip so easy and enjoyable. Your organization arranged for us to be met at the airport by one of your representatives who led us in the large, complex airport to our nearby private bus that took us where we had to go. The same occurred as we exited the country--led by one of your representatives who made our leaving Israel easy and effortless! And when we wanted to make additional/alternative plans to what was on our itinerary, our guide called your office, and it was done! We thank you for all you did to make our trip the BEST EVER! As for our favorite experiences, hard to say. We truly enjoyed it all! Memorable, all of it! THANK YOU.
