I pretty much know where everything is, but the few times I've wandered aimlessly looking for something, fellow shoppers -- mostly older & wiser -- have helped me find whatever it is I'm hunting down. I've always preferred small grocery stores to large ones, & I really have a soft spot for this one. Maybe because I grew up in the area, or maybe I just like how leisurely a shopping trip here is; I enjoy my time spent here, & I think it's a nice change of pace from the Walmarts & Targets of the world. A pro-tip: the H-E-B app is a great help for a store as condensed as this one (& any H-E-B in general). It tells you aisle by aisle if they have something you want in stock, so you can save time, gas, & energy if you need something in a pinch.

While their prices are competitive, I knocked off a couple of stars because: 1. The tap feature for card payment didn't work; I had to insert the card into a chip reader. In today's world, with skimmers around to steal your card information, I prefer the tap feature. 2. There was no water nor paper towels in the dispenser for cleaning windshields. Why have the dispensers if you're not going to fill them? Travelers need to be able to clean their auto glass. Still, I got fuel here. Afterwards, I saw the travel stop across the street that had everything, and went over there to finish what I could not do at Brookshire.

Rows upon rows of gas pumps stretch across multiple sections, making it feel more like a fueling complex than a gas station. OMG!!! Step inside, and the experience gets even bigger. The place is enormous, with bright lighting, oversized signage, and enough merchandise to keep you wandering through the store for hours. Buc-ee's branding is everywhere, from water bottles and tumblers to outdoor furniture and clothing. One of the first things you'll notice is how incredibly clean everything is, especially the restrooms. My favorite feature? The red and green occupancy lights above each stall, eliminating the awkward lean-and-peek maneuver to check for availability. The food selection is a major highlight and far beyond what you'd expect from a typical travel stop. Fresh barbecue, brisket tacos, sandwiches, and the famous Beaver Nuggets are at your fingertips. There is also an astonishing selection of jerky, both packaged and freshly sliced, along with endless snacks, sweets, and drinks. And yes, they even have an in-store tortilla station.
