I am in lawn Forssman and my shirts were giving to me extremely big they had to actually re-design almost a new shirt for me. The only problem is the flag on my shirts. They put down at 2 1/2 inches instead of three but it's at two fingers it's barely noticeable. read more

I am from Chicago and down visiting family. Did not realize my good slacks did not fit me anymore and had to have them resized at the waist. The tailoring job they did was amazing and my pants fit better than they did when I first got them!!! My mom used to take her dresses to them years ago, she's has passed on, but my dad still takes his clothes there and recommended them to me. So glad he did. I had two pairs of pants that needed to be hemmed. I personally did some quick dart stitching on one leg of one pair of pants for the desired length (so one leg of one pair of pants was temporarily hemmed to the correct length). I dropped the pants off on Thursday, January 24th. I immediately noticed there was a bit of a language barrier with the woman who took them and asked what I wanted. I spoke directly to the fellow that does the alterations. I showed him specifically that one leg of one pair of pants had been darted / hemmed to show the length I wanted. I was taking up about 3/4'-1" of hem (as in shorten the legs almost a full inch). I asked if I should have a part of the receipt tag and was told that I did not need any receipt. I was told the pants would be ready "next week". On Friday, February 1st I arrived to retrieve my pants. They were not done. And it took the woman at the desk some time to find them. I again explained what I wanted to both she and the man doing the alterations. He asked if I could make another trip and pick them up on Saturday morning. Kudos for him for being willing to do an overnight job. However, it was going to be easier for me to stop by Monday afternoon, which is what we agreed to. I arrived Monday, February 4th in the afternoon to pick up my pants. The woman was not there, the fellow was eating lunch (with his fingers) in a back room. I was shocked that he attempted to touch my clothes without attempting to get the grease off his fingers. Luckily, he didn't touch the fabric and I was able to get my pants. I was charged $20 to hem two pairs of pants (which I thought was high). Tuesday (Feb 5th) I put on the pants to discover they were still way too long. WAY TOO LONG! I looked at the pants and couldn't tell they'd been hemmed at all. I pulled out the pair that I had darted to show how long they should be and I found remnants of the thread I had used to hem them as a guide. That afternoon I went back to Arlene's and told the gentleman that I didn't think he had hemmed them at all. He tried to show me that he had "turned them in one turn", and pointed to a wear line on the inside of the cuff which demonstrated that that was the "old" bottom of the hem. I asked why my threads were still visible and he claimed HE had placed those stitches. I again protested that I really didn't think he'd done anything, to which he again tried to point out a line on the inside of the pants leg which showed he'd hemmed the pants some ( a very very minimal amount). I asked for my money back twice, stating that: 1) in my opinion they did not hem the pants, 2) if they did hem the pants they DID NOT hem them up to the line which I had marked by pre-hemming them with quick rude stitches, 3) they took longer than they'd said, and 4) they almost got grease on my pants when I came to pick them up. I was told that I'd have to come back and wear the pants so they could pin the legs to the correct length and re-hem them. The gentleman stated that he'd have to take up "one more turn" of the pants leg. I explained I was not going to leave my clothes there and again asked for a refund, even a partial refund. My request was rebuffed. I needed 3/4" to 1" of the pants legs hemmed shorter. IF (IF!!!) they did hem the pants they only took up 1/4" to 3/8" of pant leg. I'd have been happy with a partial refund, but none was forthcoming. They swear they hemmed my pants; again, IF they did so, they did not hem them the amount I requested. And, again, one pant leg was already quick stitched to show how long they all should have been. This should have been a no brainer, but they still managed to mess it up. I would not recommend Arlene's Alterations to anyone. read more
