I have tried a few dentists in the area and this office has been my best experience by far. Pros: The staff is extremely friendly and they go out of their way to make you comfortable. For the first time in recent memory I don't dread going to the dentist. I've had a fair amount of dental work done and sometimes feel self-conscious, but I have never felt judged at this office. I've also been to dentists that pile on services, develop expensive treatment plans etc--you will not find any of that here. Very straightforward and honest environment. Cons: Being a good and popular office means they're really busy and always booked. So, it may take you a little while to get an opening if you're a new customer. It also can be hard to schedule a make-up appointment if you have to cancel due to illness, but they try to work with you. Bottom line: Great office, highly recommend. read more

August: Complimentary consultation. Common, which dental practice does that??? So this is my third dentist I'm going to after the first 2 had issues with competency and overcharging... I had a cavity at the side of my tooth. My dentist said that I needed a root canal but I was hesitant because first off there was no pain on the tooth at all. So I came to Dr. Khalil and he took an X-ray and told me that it's gona be 60/40 chance. Won't know till he gets in there. I said I'll go to Asia(cheaper)and decide after my trip. He did not charge me for the X-ray and consultation!!! Plus he guaranteed me no pain for the Novocain. If there is pain then the procedure is free. Wow. What a deal. But I said let's wait. So that was my first visit. Very very impressed!! I should have done more research before going to my first 2 dentists... ughhh September: After much thought and consultations, I decided to come back here with the guarantee of no pain. It costs 3 times more but the fact it's no pain really helped me with the procedure. It's also out of network for me. But well worth it..... They also offer payment plans. I'll be changing my insurance to Delta Dental Premier come November!!! However I'm super glad I found this place!!! read more

Going to the dentist is not anyone's favorite thing to do, but (and I can't believe I am saying this) I actually look FORWARD to going because I love the people that work here so much. They've become friends to me. In short this trip to the dentist was unlike anything I've ever experienced (and I've spent a LOT of time in their chairs...). Dr. Cho was recommended to me by a friend and I was able to quickly and easily get an appointment via Michelle. The noticeable difference started with the new patient paperwork. The forms were easily submitted online and included one that asks you to identify the level of care you're looking for; from "reactive" (problem solving), "proactive care" (focused on prevention of problems), or "regenerative" (wanting to be very involved and have a master plan for your dental health). I checked "regenerative". The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming and I immediately got the vibe that this was a group of people who loved their jobs and loved creating a judgement-free-zone. After a quick set of X-rays were taken, Dr. Cho walked me through each frame explaining to me what he was looking for and how he was assessing everything. His explanation was kind and easy to follow. After reviewing the X-rays and a little poking around my mouth I was given a green light. I asked about a couple of aesthetic items and he explained pros and cons and we came up with a plan to proceed. Tyra was the tech who shepherded me through all of that and was so incredibly kind and seemed to genuinely care about what my needs and desires were. April did my cleaning and she couldn't have been nicer or have created a more pleasant experience for me. I don't have any dental insurance but they were incredibly upfront about costs and I walked away feeling like there was transparency and trust. Such an incredible feeling! I always value a straight-forward, honest and quality experience and that's exactly what I got. I could not recommend this practice-- the quality of care, or the people-- any higher. The surgery was relatively painless. Many stitches and bone grafts. If I had had such attention as a child, I would not have needed this surgery. How much do I love Joseph A Khalil, DDS? Let me count the ways. I had a bad experience finding a new dentist about a decade ago and have been skeptical and weary of dentists ever since. When I moved to VA a 3-years ago, and I was not looking forward to finding a new dentist. I looked up reviews and found a dentist (not Dr. Khalil). The first meeting he was trying to push procedures on me (which is a red flag for me), and I knew that when it was time to start looking for a new dentist. I found reviews for Dentistry by Design and started considering it. I was sold when I casually mentioned my struggles to a stranger at Costco, who ended up singing the praises of Dentistry by Design. The next year, I switch my dental insurance company, so that I would be covered to try out Dentistry by Design. Dr. Khalil was nothing but professional and kind. He's giving me tips for dealing with airlines for when my grandpa was flying alone, and makes me feel very comfortable with my dental choices with him. I've been with him for 2-years now, and I've never been happier. Now for the real story: I had two baby teeth that never fell out because there were no adult teeth underneath. I was told since I was little to take care of them and to make them last as long as possible. Every new dentist I had (because I moved a lot once I became an adult), would immediately try and talk me into pulling them out to replace them (a very expensive procedure), but I remembered the advice of the only two dentists I ever had "keep them in as long as you can". I knew this would be a procedure to do, but I was in no rush. Nevertheless, this was my true motivation in trying to find a dentist I trusted. After a year with Dr. Khalil, I brought up the possibility of being ready for dental implants. He walked me through everything. Dental implants are always expensive; let's be real. He worked with me on payments, and I went forward with my 2-extractions and dental implants with him, and I have no regrets. I recommend him to anyone and everyone. I'll begin this by saying I'm not a big fan of the dentist. When I think of going, my anxiety levels start going up and then I put it off. I've had some good experiences in my past, but those experiences have been trumped by the recent negative ones. Side note: I should write a review for this guy in Bethesda... after going to see that dentist I put off going for 3 plus years! My first appointment (in over 3 years) was today. I can honestly say I'll be back. From my first call to schedule the initial appointment I had a good feeling. The Yelp reviews also helped! I met with Kristen who took my X-rays and photos. She explained everything and gave me a tour of the office. Danny took care of my cleaning. He was gentle (thank you!!) despite the fun tartar buildup he had to work through. I had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Cho. He took the time to explain things to me that showed up in my earlier X-rays. After all that I made an appointment to come back. Arlington Dentistry by Design is amazing. I had to have an emergency root canal and everyone at the office was amazing. Kelsie at the front desk was really helpful in setting everything up and even checked in to say hello because I didn't see her when I walked in (so nice!). Rosina was very kind and helpful as my tech and kept me company. Dr. Khalil was amazing! I didn't feel any pain during the root canal. Truly. Not a lie. I didn't even keep the Novocain needle. Dr. Khalil was great about explaining the procedure and continuing to walk me through every step. He even called me the next day to see how I was doing (which is very kind). I read many good reviews on yelp about this place but till I went there today I wasn't sure if I should believe any of it. Let me tell you, it's true... it's all that and more. First of all I got an appointment the same day, I was lucky because someone canceled and I could make it early enough out of work to get there on time. MICHELLE was so nice and worked w me on the phone (as I was on the metro) to book my same day appointment. When I got there I was greeted with warmth and kindness. What came next was the best part... April, my hygienist was the best best best dental experience I have ever had. Her knowledge, her kind explanation of things, her patience and her unbelievable cleaning work on my teeth (which took 1.5hr since all she cared about was the quality of work and addressing my questions ) was all surreal. After I was done April went as far as finding the right floss for me and giving it to me and recommending what type of gum would be good for my teeth and she wrote down the name for me. I felt like I had a friend, no... a caring friend who is invested in my health, who feels invested in my understanding of what's best for me. I can't thank April enough to show me what I have been missing, a true meaning of patient care. The doctor was great, he addressed my possible future concerns, due the type of my appointment the duration of time I spent with the doctor was short but it gave me an idea of what I need to be done (if I choose to do it, no pressure) Overall it was a great experience... Have to give a big shout out to Michelle, Krista and Dr. Cho- just had a cleaning and my teeth look BEAUTIFUL! Hands down the best dentist I've even been to. Their entire staff is fantastic :-) Other notes that might be of interest... Parking has always been very easy. I've never had trouble finding a spot. I really like that they have appointments available as early at 7:30 a.m. It makes getting to work on time still possible. Highly recommend if sedation is needed- A few months ago in May I had to have a crown and root canal done.. If you are someone who experiences sever anxiety when going to the dentist and having work done, I strongly encourage you to visit Dr. Cho and his team. He took my anxiety seriously and we worked out a medication plan to ensure that I would be at ease during the procedure. Life savers and extremely friendly! My veneer (done by another dentist) popped off while I was studying for the bar exam, which of course means I was under an immense amount of stress. I walked into Arlington by Design hoping they could see me quickly and help me without being insanely expensive. The receptionist was so kind, helpful, and receptive when listening to my story about the fact that I needed prompt and as low-cost but high quality care as possible. Not only was she receptive to my needs, but she was reassuring and explained that they would do everything to help me. Dr. Cho saw me within 15 minutes of walking through the door and took the time to examine the issue, address the problem, and explain my options. Everyone was very attentive to my needs - from the reception to the hygienist, the dentist and the person who helped me understand my health coverage - I was treated very well. Which is something that is unfortunately rare at most medical offices. You can tell there's a lot of effort put into making patients feel at ease. Rude, rude, rude and incompetent billing department!! I paid this practice over $8,000.00 over period of last 6month, which is fine I saw the estimate prior to the service. However, the nurse made a mistake and charged me another $200 for service I never received. When I tried to clear the mistake, the billing department instead of doing a least bit of researched yelled at me and hanged up the phone. You would think if you spend $8000.00 the least they could go is try to understand and research the issue. Check, double check, and tripple check any bill that you pay. This is the first time I've ever been so angry that I felt I had to write a yelp review. I needed some emergency dental work so called this office. The woman at the front desk walked me through the entire process. She obtained all of my personal information and all of the information needed in regards to my dental emergency. Not until the very end of the call did she ask for my insurance. It was then that I learned I was out of network. I wasn't sure if I could find a dentist quick enough to fix it who is in network so I kept the appointment, however, she did tell me that I would be charged if I "did not show for my appointment". I found a dentist in network, so I just called today to cancel my appointment for tomorrow morning. I learned that I will be charged $150 for canceling my appointment. I was never told the amount for either a no show or cancellation fee or I'd never of made the appointment in the first place. Obviously this is very upsetting and I just want everyone else to know and be aware. **In response to their response below, thank you for responding and of course I understand putting your patients first, for all of the reasons listed. I appreciate that and no need to explain. The issue is that I was never told about a 4-day cancellation policy and certainly not a $150 charge. All I was told was that I would be charged if I were a "no show". To me a "no show" means not showing up at the time of your appointment. Different from cancelling you appointment. Hopefully you can understand my surprise when I took the steps to be sure I was not a "no show" to find I still got charged, $150 to boot!! I'm sure anyone would feel the same way. read more

This is a great friendly professional place. I've been with them for more than six years now. Doctor Khalil is super nice and his work on my crowns and fillings is perfect. I'm now doing Invisalign with him. he is very understanding, calming and smart. He makes sure that you get the most appropriate painless treatment.
