The people here just don't want to be there. I have been in there several times and the general treatment you get varies from gruff and bored to downright impatient and rude. Ive been collecting very rare and spectacularly made footwear for almost a decade now, whether I brought to Jimmy, Maison margiela futures, Marni fussbetts, or loro piana summer walks, they've always found a way to return my shoes better each time. With the level of craftsmanship these shoes already come with I was hesitant to bring them to a cobbler without already having history with the service provider, but I can assure you no matter the brand, quality, or price, you will be astounded with your results. I have a pair of Topsides whose soles cracked and fell apart recently. Though several years old, the rest of the shoes was in very good shape. I look up online to see if they could be resoled and found some good info. One said resoling requires a lot time and much skill so comes at a cost: about $95. As was p pointed out, I could get a new pair for that. However, I hate throwing out anything if it can be repaired so took them in to Arlington Shoe Repair. I've had good service there before so I was hopeful. Well, I got the shoes today and am so impressed with the resoling--just like new! He took the time to find the best sole, rejecting several before finding the perfect pair. How nice to find a true craftsman. After watching several videos online on the resoling process. This guy is a craftsman. I've had him fix soles on all my shoes that were deeply worn and no longer usable. This made these shoes like new again and his sole repairs last longer than cheap factory soles as well. I even had him make me a custom leather belt. He knows his trade well. If you find a pair of real leather shoes you like that you found at at yard sale, bring them to him to have them resurrected. Most shoes sold at large big box stores are now imitation leather called "man made uppers". These do not hold up over time. Real leather shoes are getting harder to find and when you do, they can be pricy. Resurrecting an older used pair is certainly an option. He also has a complete selection of all kinds of shoe laces. A full selection of shoes laces are very had to find, but not here. He comes highly recommended by a fussy guy, me! read more

Jimmy literally brought my 20+ year old expensive, old school Italian hiking boots back from the dead. Wow. I can't add photos to the review specifically. But I just added them to the yelp listing. My boots are the black ones with the "before" and "after" captions. Pretty incredible. He took the whole boot apart, then re repaired the toe from the inside while the bottom of the boot was open. Finally he restitched a new midsole onto the leather and glued a new outer sole onto the midsole. read more

The gentleman who runs this place is a true artist. Shoes are better than new when he's done with them. He's got the quirky personality like every shoemaker I've ever encountered, but most important, his work is truly top notch. I even take new shoes here sometimes to replace slippery loud plastic heels with rubber or get soles that will last on a nice pair of pumps. He also sells used shoes and bags. I got an adorable pair of sandals here for 15 dollars, and my husband bought a briefcase that turned out to be from a very high end maker for $50. I brought in shoes to be worked on. Place is very dirty and disorganized. Owner not that friendly. I think he charges too much but he did do a good job. It would have been nice if he had polished my shoes a little. Other shoe repair places usually clean up your shoes before they hand them back to you. I am always hesitant to have things altered or fixed, but this place is amazing. A few months ago I had two pairs of nice heels resoled and one pair of boots. Although it was a little pricey ($29 for the heels and $49 for the boots), it was worth it, considering they don't make any of these shoes anymore and I have lovingly worn them for years! I also think he did an amazing job! A couple weeks ago a brought in a purse with a crazy twist-clasp that had broken off. I was, again, hesitant to bring it in, thinking he would a. not have a new clasp to replace it with, since it was quite unique or b. charge a TON of money to replace the whole thing. This place has saved two pairs of boots for me! The first was a pair of booties that I had had repaired twice in a different country (with lower quality shoe-repair standards). Though the heels had already been nailed into several times, he was able to affix new, firm heel caps that feel very secure (and have a great sound). The second was a pair of new black boots that I used a low-quality waterproofing liquid on - and they turned blue! He was able to waterproof and polish my boots to look good as new (thank goodness!) The management of this store has changed recently (within the last two years, or so). This is important to know because apparently the previous owner was a crook, so there are a lot of bad reviews out there for this location. I went there to get the heels on my boots replaced. I just returned from Arlington Shoe Repair...not to be confused with the previous "Dave's Shoe Repair" that was in the same location a couple of years back. The new owner has over 18 years experience at the "Jimmy's Shoe Repair" in Central Square (his son manages that location now and he is now working at the Arlington location. I brought in a pair of my son's snow boots that needed a replacement on the zipper pull and he quickly did them for me. Price was reasonable. Cash only. If dropping off then 50% is due at drop off and payment (in cash) is due at pick up time. The owner was pleasant and wanted everyone to know he fixes jackets, purses as well. If you expect to pick up or drop off shoes after work, go to another shop. This place claims they close at 6pm during the week but they never seem to be open that late. The first time I tried to drop off a pair at 5:30pm, they were closed even though the sign says they are open until 6pm. I finally went again the next day and called ahead - he overcharged me and said it would take a week. I just went back to pick them up at 5pm (left work early, afraid they would close) and surprise surprise, they are closed at 5pm when the sign says 6pm. The phone number rings and then "voice mailbox is full." Useless. I will not return. read more

I left a new pocket book here to get a new zipper put on, and it turned into a nightmare. The guy working here kept telling me the work wasn't yet done. After 3 months, I asked for my pocket book back, and he refused to return it to me! I resorted to going to the Arlington Police station around the corner who called him, he claimed I was lying. I was advised by the Arlington Polive they could not intervene, because I dropped my pocket book off voluntarily. Except to go to Small Claims Court to fight to get it back!
