I've been taking my shoes here for at least 10 years. The only reason I still have some of my shoes is due to their expertise. For example: my Gore-tex and leather All Star lugged Converse high-tops eventually wear down. Before there's nothing left, they grind the remaining heels and soles flat, then add a Vibram layer to the bottom, keeping them wearable for years beyond their standard life expectancy. read more

Poor Quality Shoe Repair Service - Damaged My Manolo Blahnik Shoes I am very disappointed with the job done on my royal blue 105mm Hangisi satin Manolo Blahnik shoes. The service I received was far below acceptable standards, and my shoes have been damaged as a result. I want other customers to know, so you don't get similar results. 1. **Fabric Damage**: The satin fabric on my shoes is broken after the job to add bottom protective sole. This indicates a lack of skill and knowledge in handling delicate silk fabric, especially for high-end designer shoes. 2. **Stains from Cleaning**: After the cleaning process, the fabric has worse noticeable stains, which were not present before the repair. This has further ruined the appearance of my brand new shoes. This is a brand new pair of shoes. I have them sitting on shelf for a while, and I want to put on the bottom protective sole, so that I could start wearing them. On the shelf, other shoes had stained it a bit, so I asked the shop, and they confirmed they could help to clean. I know cleaning silk is difficult and I trusted their skills given their long presence and the high Yelp ratings, but in the end, I learned they do not know how to work with expensive fabrics... I was not charged for the service ($65 for sole, $20 for cleaning), but my shoes, never worn before, were ruined. I would have felt better if the shop told me that they do not know how to clean it or they felt cleaning it would make worse, as how I thought in the beginning. But I could also not accept that they damaged the fabric for the protective sole job. They could have put some protective materials around my shoes when doing the sole. I want other customers to know, so you don't get my results on your shoes. read more

My Birkenstocks are real leather and it's worthwhile to get them repaired since they don't make them anymore. after being worn down from 2 years, they look brand new. My Cole Haan boots I bought in 2019 are quality shoes and my favorite pair I own. I'm so impressed with the repair that I had to take photos right after I left the shop. 1000/10 recommend taking your shoes here. It was a one week turn around for both pairs. Excellent service from my first visit to Jimmy's Shoe Repair, extremely happy with the results. I brought in a pair of 1970s-era Ferragamo sandals (they were my mother's) which were in pretty bad shape. They've now been expertly restored with a new heel and leather outer sole, and some touch-ups to the leather uppers and lining. It's quite a transformation! I also brought in a pair of Mary Jane style leather shoes that were just a little too small for me, wondering if perhaps they could be stretched (lengthwise) -- seems to have worked, I've gained just enough room in the toe now to be able to wear them. A go-to cobbler for years and years. Jimmys has given me years more wears of favorite shoes from blondo boots to my Varina pumps from heel taps and sole replacements. For my go-to shoes it's been amazing to extend the life especially as these are difficult to replace outside of Florence. Amazing to also go to a cobbler who understands construction and can also repair high quality leather goods adding new life, supporting moving towards no-buy. I'm not sure who these boots are made for (besides walking) but certainly not for anyone with an ounce of meat on their bones. My wife walked a hole in a pair of Camper boots in few a months time and was crestfallen when Camper would not replace/repair the boots. We took them to Jimmy's expecting that they could not be fixed since it was a layered rubber sole. Jimmy's said it was possible, and a miraculous repair was performed, these boots are not just 'as good as new' they are far better than the original. The sole is slightly thicker and MUCH more durable with the original look of the boot intact. I posted a before and after pic. The boots are red and navy. Mind you, I'm hard to please when it comes to craftsmanship, but I was 100% satisfied with the work done- even if I felt the pricing was a little steep. These are three pairs of shoes I can't part with and I'm glad to have them back good as new again! They even polished up my shoes quite a bit. The guy at Jimmy's is really nice. Every time I go in there, I'm freaking out about a dear pair of shoes that is in bad shape. And every time, I wait longer than I should to get shoes resoled, which I'm sure creates more work for these shoe repair guys (cobblers? Not sure.) Until a couple of years ago, I thought I was either buying cheapo shoes (kinda true) or walking in heels like a total freakshow (also kinda true, I'm sure, but not the reason for this problem) because the heels were wearing off my dress shoes and their metal rods were seriously damaging my hardwood floors. Lo and behold, other women also have this problem and know that the situation is a cause to have your shoes resoled, rather than to go out and buy another pair of $70 heels. Many of the aforementioned women have gone to Jimmy's and rated their service highly, so I thought I'd give them a try. I was pretty pleased with the job they did for me on those shoes (maybe $15?), so I returned this fall with my beloved Steve Madden boots. You know the ones, the pair everyone bought in the 2011 season? If you have them, you probably also know how poorly made they are. I could deal with the slipping and almost falling on my ass thing, but when holes in the soles led to rain seeping in--I hate wet socks--I knew something had to be done. The cost of new soles was about half the retail cost of my boots, but I had the job done. The new soles have better treads, but are now starting to wear apart from the boot up by the toe. But, when I got them back, the leather looked like it was in great shape, like they'd treated it in some way. I appreciate the attention to detail and the prompt service, but I am concerned my boots won't last another full season. 4 stars. read more

Jimmy's did a good job in repairing 2 pairs of heels that had been ravaged by years of walking on NYC and Boston's brick-covered sidewalks. The re-heeling plus some minor heel repair (where the pavement had worn down beyond the heel tip itself) cost $7/pair. It actually took me a while to get myself back to the shop. A year ago, I had gone to Jimmy's for a price quote and deemed the repair too expensive (had gotten good quality shoes for a great price, so my Asian- and student-ness rationalized it wasn't worth it). I figured I would replace the heel tips myself ... and then a year passed with my shoes gathering dust in the closet. Over time, I got over my miserly ways and just decided to get the shoes fixed. A week later, they were repaired and can return to the streets again. My lesson: DIY works when you have the time and motivation, but finding a place with people who know what they're doing is faster and less lame than frugal-induced laziness. read more

Ok..Recap. I took my favorite leather boots to Jimmy's to add rubber sole and metal tips (cause after only 2 weeks...my leather sole get worn in at an alarming rate). Metal tips were add but only after a few wear, one of the tips fell off.... What happened next... Jimmy and his family was on vacation but as soon as he returns, I took my pair of Frye back to Jimmy's, they are very nice and fixed my shoes right on the spot. (Literally took less than 3 min). They changed it to a smaller size metal tips and stating they should stay on...and it's been a few weeks, so far so good. Yes, this place is not cheap, but consider location, quality, and customer service - I'll be a returning customer~~ Plan on bringing my leather ballet flats in for a rubber sole add on~ read more

This place has made living with a leg length discrepancy much easier. I've had them custom modify six pairs of shoes for me over the last year with external lifts. The shoe type has run the gamut -- from athletic (running, powerlifting), to casual (birkenstocks), to fancy (leather loafers and ankle boots). Each time, Kevin delivers quality, artful mods without fail. On a couple occasions I needed to bring a pair back for a minor revision and I've been consistently impressed with the customer service and attention to detail. Kevin really cares about getting it right. My recommendation if you're going to pursue shoe lifts here: be precise about what you want and bounce your ideas off of Kevin. He'll tell you whether and how he can make it happen and you guys can brainstorm solutions. You may need to be a bit patient as well (sometimes the work takes a little while, maybe up to 2 weeks?), but it's worth it. read more

Then I look at my treasured brown leather all-season boots and their sad white salt lifeline of a failing heart stares back at me, and I know it's time. Run by a father/son duo, these guys are timely, quality and honest. Can't say I haven't spent a pretty penny reviving my babies though. The walls of the shop are lined with the abandoned soles from another time. It's a pretty interesting sight to see the evolution of shoewear. Many times over the years I have had shoes and boots reheeled or repaired here. At least once (or twice?) recently I even noticed that my shoes or boots had been restained/polished- even though I couldn't recall having asked for that to be done! This last time I also noticed that the price charged to replace the taps on a pair of boots' heels was a few dollars less than a local competitor would have charged (I'd inquired at the other place-- close to my home-- but their price seemed steeper than I'd expected, so I traveled the extra distance to Jimmy's...am so glad I did! These guys are great. I took my jacket in to get the zipper fixed (yes, they do zipper repair). They quoted me $10, which was fine. I dropped it off at 9am, and they had it ready for me by 5pm. When I picked it up, they said they fixed it but there was a slight problem: they couldn't replace the zipper itself because it's apparently a kind of zipper they don't have on hand. So instead they kind of reseated it and fixed it that way. The "problem" meant that they fixed it for $5 instead of $10! I can handle problems like this in my life. read more

I have gone to Jimmy's twice now and both times had an excellent experience. The staff was very helpful and polite. They were honest as to what they would be able to do and were successful with both trips. They were also very quick with the turnaround time (just about 1 week). I have a particular pair of dress shoes I wear pretty much every day because they are so comfortable. It would sadden me to get rid of them, much less since they are no longer produced and I don't want to pay even more for that. The first time I brought them in was because the stitching on one seam had broken and Jimmy's stitched them up beautifully and in a way that you wouldn't know unless you really looked closely. The second time was because I wore a hole in the bottoms of both shoes. They were able to replace the soles with a better material that will hold up in the fickle Boston weather more-so than the originals. Mind you that it is cash only and from what I can tell it is mostly pre-pay, although on my first trip they did not require me pay in full, which makes me hesitant to say this is a mandate. I just wouldn't want someone to make the trek only to turn around and have to find an ATM. The price is reasonable, especially if it is a pair of shoes you really like. Neither time did I feel like I was overpaying for the quality of the work I got back. Needless to say, I will go back in a heartbeat. They are as good as it gets. read more

Updating with more love for Jimmy's Shoe Repair. My favorite leather handbag needed some deceptively simple repair work -- the attached inner pocket had started to separate from the main body of the bag, no doubt due to my frequent jamming and pulling of wallet, phone, etc. in and out of said pocket. This is a very nice, quality handbag, definitely something worth repairing, and I thought that it would be a simple job. Not so fast: the older man had a look and tsked, describing the multiple steps he would need to take to first deconstruct the top part of the bag, re-sew the torn seam connecting the inner pocket in a way that won't be seen on the outside of the bag, and then restore the structure of the upper part of the bag. "I'll try" he said, rather morosely, "but I won't make any promises." $25 and one week later, the handbag is again perfect. The shop is cluttered and disorganized. The service is gruff. The workmanship is excellent. The prices are reasonable. Seems about right for a shoe repair shop. read more

I had originally tried to take them to the drycleaning place on mass ave in central square, but they were going to try to charge me like $30, so they recommended Jimmy's. I took the shoes in to Jimmy's and for $10 (I believe cash only) they had them sewed up and ready to roll in 2 days! I've been wearing the shoes for over a year now and they are good as new! I had my boyfriend take in a pair of cork-edged leather sandals last week. They were due to be repaired in one week. When he went back on the said date, Jimmy's was closed in their summer hours (but that's not posted on their website). When he went back the next day, they didn't have the shoes ready. And after he called back today, twice, to make sure they were ready, he came in to pick up a pair of shoes that had been slapdash wiped with something on the suede insoles, but not cork-saver on the sides, and not polish on the top, THE REASONS I TOOK THEM IN. They're also wet and unwearable for a day, and I'm out $20. I'll call next week to see if Jimmy's would rather give me a refund or take the shoes back for a quick turnaround to prove they can actually run a business based on a service they're supposed to be qualified to provide. I'm hoping it's a refund to save everyone hassle. Expensive and late. Hopefully at least they'll try to satisfy a very very unhappy customer. read more

Couldn't be happier with my new soles. I brought in my flat boots that I had almost walked through at the heel, and my sister's high heeled boots. After I had recently seen a picture of my friend's botched boots (glue everywhere on the leather, and the new sole painted?!?) I was excited about the result here. They also fixed a stain on my leather boots that I didn't even think about having fixed - complimentary - and expedited the work because I'm only in town for a week. A bit pricier than some of the other shoe repair places I've frequented - The one on Washington Sq in Brookline is also excellent - but the location was more convenient and I don't mind paying a bit more to get my favorite boots back in shape and supporting a local business. read more

I am really impressed by Jimmy's Shoe Repair. I found the repair shop on Yelp, called ahead to make sure they really do luggage repair, and checked to make sure they could fix my suitcase in time for an upcoming trip. Conveniently located near the Central Square T-stop, Jimmy's re-stitched the zipper on my beloved 10 year-old suitcase for a mere $15 and a wait time of approximately 36 hours. I highly recommend the store and I will be back if other repairs are needed! read more
