This establishment does not care for the people in their community at all. They called the cops on an unhoused person who had PAID FOR THEIR FOOD, and the cops removed them and threw their food away. We have been there twice now. The first experience wasn't great. Staff were rude and the ice cream itself was tasteless. I threw mine away actually. Today, We had guests in town who wanted to go there so we tried again. Such a disappointment. Never going there again. The staff didn't wash her hands, they were downright rude again and my Sunday wasn't any better than the last time, after waiting for 20 minutes. The whole place and experience is underrated. I can see why this place was so busy! Tons of topping options and combinations paired with great tasting ice cream is an easy winner. I got the dirt cup and loved it. The chocolate ice cream was really good and mixed with the crumbled Oreos perfectly, making each bite have little bits of cookies mixed in the ice cream. Highly recommend! Mom got Lauren's landslide and she really loved it too. She liked the vanilla and chocolate mixed ice cream as well as the huge cookie dough chunks. And how doesn't love caramel and chocolate on top of their ice cream?? We had to wait in line about 20-30 minutes, and then had to wait another 15 minutes or so before they called our name with our finished order at the window so be prepared to wait a little, especially if you visit during the weekend. What a lovely find in Rapid City! My husband and I had just gotten to our hotel and were looking for a sweet treat - the bartender at the hotel recommended Armadillo's and it was just down the street! Despite being close to 9 pm (they had later hours for summertime), it was still bustling with happy customers! The ice cream shop has a cute old timey vibe and has excellent soft serve! For as crazy busy as they are it goes pretty quick and it's soft serve but their sundaes are the way to go!! Sitting outside with your family so can be so relaxing. I visited South Dakota for the first time last week (4/4-7/24). I got in Thursday night and left early morning Sunday. I had Armadillos on Friday and liked it so much that I went back Saturday as well. Do I feel bad having ice cream two days in a row? Nopity Nope. I even went out in the rain for it on Saturday. Very quick service from the nice young adults working there! A clean an welcoming environment. It looked like a great place to meet a friend, or for a kid to celebrate a birthday. We were staying nearby and decided to go to Armadillo's for a shake. The line was fairly short relative to what we saw throughout the weekend. However, the wait ended up being quite long as the staff was trying to fulfill orders and make hot food. When we got our milkshakes, it was super thick. First off, Armadillo's Ice Cream Shoppe is a soft serve ice cream parlor rather than a hard scoop place. This may make a difference as they only have a few flavors of soft serve. However, this place is popular for a reason. They crank out a wide variety of ice cream treats and do so very well. Armadillo's is on the eastern edge of downtown Rapid City. Parking can be tight so expect a short walk. The menu is rather extensive here with any number of toppings and configurations for your ice cream treat. Most start with soft serve ice cream with vanilla and chocolate being the base options. The line was long on a sunny and clear day after the smoke finally cleared out of town. I opted for a root beer float which had a good balance of root beer and ice cream. It was a simple treat done well in a good location. You order outside with both outdoor and indoor seating. Indoors has restrooms and water to help out as needed. I am guessing that Saturday nights here are epic with many young and old loves splitting a sweet treat and ignoring that your date ate most of it themselves! Armadillo's does not need any more praise from me as they seem to be very popular. Yum this place is good! I showed up on a weekday night and there was a long line. It was worth the wait though and didn't take too long. Rapid City may be best known as the Gateway to Mt Rushmore (and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally) but you cannot forget their two terrific Ice Cream Parlors. If you are looking for Soft Serve Ice Cream, you absolutely cannot beat Armadillos. They use top quality mix to make their ice cream (try plain vanilla some time and the difference from other soft serve vendors will be obvious) and then they get incredibly creative from there. The Sundaes that they make are to die for. I had the Peach Cobbler Sundae and I've never had better. I only wish I had found Armadillo's before my last day in town. Oh, Armadillos, My love for you is so that I wrote this haiku. So aside from my awful poetry, I really do have a one of a kind love for dear Armadillos of Rapid City. By reading a few of my previous reviews one could see that I've mentioned how I was born here (no, not Armadillos, silly! -- RAPID), and going to Armadillos is one of the best and fuzziest warm memories I have of my hometown. I'm not kidding that we probably went there at least once a week, if not more while we still lived in SD. And we went all the time even before it moved to the new location on West Main, that's how much of an OG it is for me. (locals will know what's up) So yeah, Armadillos is a true Rapid City treasure, they just have the most amazing ice cream. And so many different options, I don't know how you could ever choose to go to a mainstream place like Dairy Queen if you can go to Armadillos. So let me give you a hint: DONT. Just go here, you will be so glad you did!! And don't be alarmed if you see a ton of people outside sitting and waiting in line, it's completely normal. That's just how popular this place is, but I assure you the wait is well worth it. My absolute favorite thing to get from here is the Mocha Mud Pie Milkshake/ Malt. It's a coffee/ chocolate/ oreo cup of pure goodness that is just incredible and so good I will dream about forever. I'm not even being dramatic. Something I also love from here is their coconut dipped cone- ohhh my! It's so freaking good, and so are their other dip cone options, and they really give you a good portion as well, no small wimpy cone like some places. There's just so much here. They do have actual food as well, which I don't remember quite as much because it's been a long time since I actually ate anything here but ice cream- the scream is definitely the main show. Ughhhh do yourself a favor and pay Armadillos a visit if you EVER have a chance! My childhood self will thank you and give you a big old hug! One last tip: there is a special flavor of the day that's usually posted on their big board and if you ask the cashier you can get a free sample of it! read more

This is a nice ice cream shop. They have 2 hour free parking and metered parking around the shop. There is also a parking garage across the street that is free, if you can not find anything else on the street. They have a decent sized dinning area and patio that you can eat your deliciousness. The staff there is very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was very clean and open. I got the apple pie sundae and it was delicious. Everyone that got some ice cream while I was there had some nice looking creations. They also have a simple food menu consisting of hot dogs, sandwiches and the like. It was decent. I tasted good, but it was very thin. It may have been a foot long but it was not your normal sized hotdog. Instead we found a place specializing in soft serve with chocolate, vanilla, or swirl in various sizes of cones or cups. They also offer dipped cones. So I ordered the small swirl cone dipped in chocolate and then put into a cup at their suggestion to avoid any mess.
