Good spot a variety of produce people are somewhat friendly convenient for when you can't get to the store

I always love the idea of doing my produce shopping at farmers markets but often found them quite cost prohibitive. I'm talking to you Hope St and winter time markets. But then I discovered this little gem! This is a smaller market, but I find this to be less overwhelming then the larger ones. There were a lot of farms I was unfamiliar with and they were all very friendly and had plenty of variety to choose from. The prices here are in most cases almost 50% cheaper then what I've seen at Hope St. We walked away with some delicious and sweet corn that was only 35¢ an ear, patty pan squash for 50¢ each, pint of cherry tomatoes for $1.50 . . . you get the idea. We had a fantastic dinner when we got home! So mad at myself for not finding this market sooner, it will certainly make it's way into my weekly shopping routine. read more

I am a farmers market regular and this is by far my favorite. They have everything...fruits, veggies, meat, fish, baked goods, education and more! It is a bit smaller that the Hope Street market and waaay friendlier. If you like to socialize and be a part of the event...this market is for you. (Also...the prices seem to be a more fair than other markets.) The street is always lined with food trucks too! A BIG bonus! read more

Smaller than the Saturday market at Lippitt Park, this market does have all that one could need -- bread, veggies, fruit, seafood, meat, and sweet treats with a handful of food trucks to choose from too. I especially like the City Farm Cooperative stand. It helps that I can walk to it. There's also available nutrition education provided by the Cooperative Extension at URI. Thursdays in July is also the concerts in the park, sponsored by WBNA and City of Providence -- so you can stock up on healthy eats and enjoy the music. Farm Fresh RI also offers a CSA that can be picked up at this market. read more

An absolute marvel in the fall, when the all of Dexter Park is covered in fallen golden leaves and the chill inspires cider drinking. The mirage in the tundra of warmth? The cider and coffee stand at this farmer's market, which stands triumphantly for its neighborhood customers through the end of October. We were there when the temps hit mid-40s, and vendors had bundled up without covering their smiles and eagerness to chat about their products. Some great initiatives sell at this market--Youth Harvest, for instance, which teachers inner-city youth to cultivate, harvest, and can their own fruit. This is a nice outdoor market in Dexter Park on Thursdays. It's smaller, less busy and more intimate than other farmers markets in the area. What I like about it is how there's some farms and vendors I don't see at other Providence markets like Sweet & Salty farm from Tiverton (DELICIOUS yogurt and veal) and a Hmong veggie table. A bunch of prepared food stands like Tricycle Ice Cream and Humble Pie show up and food trucks like Rocket regularly swing by as well, and it's nice not to have to wait in endless lines to try them like at the busier farmer's markets. Parking is easy, riding your bike is easy, walking is easy, choosing to come here for the good stuff is easy. Check it out. read more

This market deserves more love! Sure, it's smaller and has less variety than the Hope Street Farmers' market. What it lacks in variety, however, it makes up for in the friendliness of its vendors, lack of crowding, and ease of parking. The market is located on the edge of Parade Street in Dexter Park right next to the old Armory building, which, as a child, I believed to be a medieval castle. Food trucks line Parade Street between 4:00 and 7:00 on Thursday evenings to satisfy your hunger while you shop for local meats and veggies. Some of the vendors from Hope Street are present at this market, but there are also plenty of vendors at this market who are not present at Hope Street, so there is plenty of reason to make the trek from East to West and check out what this market has to offer. Also, if you sign up for Farm Fresh's Market Basket (CSA, which I highly recommend), this is where you will pick up your basket! If you find yourself wondering what to make for dinner on Thursday night, make sure to stop by the Armory Farmers Market and you're sure to find some beautiful local produce to get those culinary creative juices flowing! read more

My wife and I live the idea of buying from a farmers market. Unlike other local farmers markets, I found this one to be pretty reasonably priced. Overall good selection from various local farms and orchards. There is usually a few vendors such as Humble Pie and one or two food trucks (Rocket) is a regular. read more

While this is my neighborhood farmer's market, I also forget about it. I need to remedy that. To echo what the other reviewers said, this market is smaller and cheaper than the hope street one, but has just as much variety in terms of the produce, and because it is not as busy the vendors are able to give more individualized attention. Several of the stands had samples of their products or recipes that could be made with their products, and they worked well for inspiration for what to make for dinner. One thing I love about this market (even though I don't have children) is that they have stuff to do for the kids. Today they had a vegetable art table and a bean bag toss. There are always a small assortment of food trucks here as well, a mix of the well known and more local trucks - a good reflection of the crowd as well. Coffee, pies, fruits, veggies, food trucks + dog park, playground, and castle views makes the Armory Farmer's Market particularly awesome. Your typical farmer's market when it comes to offerings, but always well organized (love you, Farm Fresh!) and regularly combined with some other awesome programming - like PRONK! It's more than just shopping - the Armory Farmer's Market is fun for the whole family given all the offerings of the park. The Thurs. early evening time slot is juuuuust perfect - doesn't cut into the weekend, but perfect to pick up a few treats heading into the weekend. read more

Small but charming, and full of local flavor (prime people watching!), this farmers market is one example of this neighborhood's charms. From the food trucks (when I went most recently you could choose between tacos and Star Wars-themed burgers/hot dogs), to the vendors, to the roving artists - lots of fun. The vendors were somewhat limited as well, but you can get a good variety of local fruits and veggies, along with some more uncommon items (pea shoots? duck eggs?). There was a coffee vendor (required), baked goods, bath items, and even a gluten free/vegan bakery with life changing pizza crackers. It's right in our neck of the woods, so we would probably be back even if it wasn't that great. However, I'm going to look forward to Thursday's this summer and make a point of returning often. read more
