Price hikes! Yikes! Prices increased tremendously this year. I bought a couple of items and went to Green Thumb for the rest. Armstrong prices were 50-80% more! Armstrong was always a little pricier, but I liked giving you the business. These new prices are ridiculous. Lower the prices or you're going to lose your customer base. read more

Armstrong was my favorite garden center growing up as a kid. We have one in LA super close to where I grew up and I have fond memories of coming here with my mom on the weekends. Now that I live in the 805, I was happy to learn years ago that there is a local Armstrong. Armstrong is like the Bristol Farms of gardening. It's slightly elevated and more upscale but approachable. They have a pretty selection of flowers, trees, succulents, and indoor plants. The inside store is what I remember with cute home decors and garden treasures. Pots, statues, fountains they do have it all. Another perk about Armstrong is they have their own small little parking lot despite being off the busy main road in Thousand Oaks. I didn't have any interaction with staff when I came here so I can't review too much on that. Kind of says something that in the time I was here no one approached me or to offer help, but I also truly didn't need help or any direction so it was okay with me. The reason I docked one star is honestly I just find it to be a bit pricey. Yes they do sometimes have more unique plants and a large selection but on the day I came I wasn't outright impressed given that I had just come from Home Depot and Lowe's and seen a lot of similar Items. Everything here is a couple dollars more than the big brand retailers which I get makes some sense as Armstrong is a smaller company, but when gardening and doing big projects, I'm looking to save money and unless you just want to support this business - I had trouble justifying why I would pay a couple bucks more here when I could get a better deal down the street. Overall, this is a really nice Armstrong garden location and I'm happy the city of Thousand Oaks has it. I will be back but more so to find unique plants, otherwise than I'll be buying the bulk of my gardening project items elsewhere. read more

I spent weeks talking to local business owners. Including one who gave me a date and time. He even confirmed the day before and then no showed. I gave up and went with a corporate company. And I'm glad I did. (Do better next time, local business owners.) I paid for the landscaping service consultation. I was nothing less than impressed with the entire process from start to finish. It was easy to set up and pay for online through their website. From there, Arturo sent me an email with suggested dates/time. He showed up a week later, early and having driven around the neighborhood to get a sense of the landscaping in our newer development that actually has a theme across the houses. Arturo spent time listening to what I want as part of a refresh. He even took time to give us some tips on how to better care for our lawn and shrubs and manage the landscapers we use. All in all, a great experience. It was worth every penny. I cannot highly recommend him and Armstrong enough. I needed a large indoor tree that didn't get a lot of direct sunlight. Originally I didn't think a large retail nursery was my best option to find such a tree. Well, I went to two wholesale nurseries and didn't find the tree i needed, so I went to Armstrong Nursery T.O. And met Leighton. She listened to us, looked at pictures and helped us find the most perfect tree. Then she explained in detail how we should plant the tree when I got home. Garden decor of every kind. All the employees are so nice but more then that they are very knowledgeable. The restrooms are nicely decorated and very clean. I love the fact we have a nursery here however the seed quality is just so-so I tried roasting a gardening business but their seeds don't always grow and it's sometimes a waste with a lot of extra work. There are limited organic plants and the ones they do have don't look great most of the time. The rest of the pricking is high and you can find the same items a lot cheaper But they have DR earth soil which is helpful but I need to change dirt anyway so this place could be really great but the quality of the plants is just meh. read more

First, it's important that I start with: I KNOW NADDA ABOUT PLANTS. I went to Armstrong last summer and purchased some outdoor plants (unfortunately, they met a quick demise. Who knew overwatering was a thing?) and I also purchased the coolest patio chair. It's shaped like a pod and it swings. I love it. Recently, I needed to buy a birthday gift for my bestie and since the universe gave me a plant loving best friend soulmate, I headed to Armstrong's with only a picture of a black leaved plant (w.t.h.) on my iPhone and zero plant knowledge. I asked a very nice woman, working in the outdoor area, if she could help me find what I was looking for. I had no clue in that moment that her specialty was "outdoor plants", but that didn't seem to matter because she walked me inside and knew pretty much everything about the indoor plants as well. She was genuinely kind, did not treat me like I was only picking out plants based off the leaf color (I was), and filled me in on some important things to think about when selecting an indoor plant. I was there for an hour and I was so into it. They didn't have what I initially came in looking for, but I think I ended up with something better. Their pot selection is really great - huge variety. (I...um...spent the most time in that section.) All in all, everyone I spoke to was helpful and friendly. It was a really nice experience. Kinda makes me want to try being a plant mom again....or at least go hangout there and learn a little more. The review is for the poor service for returns. I have bought from here in the past fully knowing how overpriced everything is because I liked the guarantee that if something didn't survive I could return it. Plus it's a good vibe there, so it was worth the higher expense for me. Well to my surprise I got the rudest reaction to returning a few small azaleas. Within a week of planting all the leaves dropped, and the branches dried out. No big deal, not a good location in my yard I suspect. So I went back to return and try something else. At the return counter for a measly $40 I got treated like I brought back a puppy to a shelter, or is if though this person raised this Azalea as her own from a seed. She argued with me it's still alive and I need to give it time. And I'm like hey if you think it's alive feel free to plant in your own garden and sell to another customer. As for me, when I plant a new bush in the spring and the plant immediately suffers I'm not about to leave it there for a year to find out. The whole point is to have a nice garden I can enjoy right away. Otherwise I'd plant seeds and bulbs. Eventually got store credit which she made seem like such a huge exception was been made, which I'll save for mulch one day. Did NOT buy a replacement there, went to Costco and bought some roots of roses which I was surprised they sold, put in same location and they're doing just fine. Leaves are starting to emerge with the warming weather. Going forward, I'll just shop elsewhere. It's a shame, otherwise great store, layout, and usually great service. read more

Armstrong nursery is so fun to walk around and shop. It's a truly beautiful nursery. I wanted to give a shout-out to Leighton for her help with my orchids. I took my ailing orchids into Armstrong to see if they could help me, they told me that Leighton was the orchid specialist. She was incredible, she spent almost an hour teachng me how to care for my plants. (I hadn't even bought them there). She fed and cared for them right then, talking the whole time about ways to keep them healthy for many years. I had watched conflicting information on many YouTube videos about cutting back the spikes to encourage them to reflower, but seeing her show me exactly where to cut the spike was really helpful. We talked about when and what to use to replant them, fertilize them (I bought the product she recommended there at Armstrong) and cut back the flower spike. My roots literally went from gray to vibrant green in seconds of her watering them. I never realized how much water they need and how to know when they need to be watered. I'm thrilled to say my orchids are thriving! Leighton is the orchid whisperer. Armstrong nursery is lucky to have her on staff! read more

We loved it here so much. All the employees were super friendly, and there was a really nice variety of plants, fountains, pots, and garden decor. Julie was the sweetest and helped us out a lot. She was knowledgable and very easy to talk to. She answered all of our questions and helped us finalize our decisions in picking the plants we wanted. We got a few gorgeous pots, a Hawaiian Plumeria tree, a Hibiscus plant, and a Canna plant. So happy with all of them. Will definitely come back here for more next time we're in the area. Came by to get some houseplants. Armstrong has an indoor outdoor store format. Outside has a decent selection including a lot of large succulents, and some great harder to find outdoor plants. The pots section is very extensive as well. Interior section has most of the popular houseplants. They have some great monstera specimens and also a lot of solid fiddle leaf figs. There's also a large seed section and a decent amount of pretty convincing fake plants. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, got pretty crowded but staff kept things moving quickly at the cashier line. read more

I absolutely love this Nursery, however I really dislike the employees there. Every time I go in everyone avoids me when I ask for help and if I do get help they are super rude to me. When I go to pay at the register they tell me the same thing over and over again that I don't have a phone number with them and I always give them my info so they will have it. I recently went to go exchange something and the girl try to look up my receipt and she said it not showing up,then I handed her my receipt and she said that's so odd they have this receipt with someone else's number. It didn't surprise me, she was confused as well. Amanda! Such a great variety of indoor and outdoor plants. Many are already potted and ready to go. Those are a little pricey due to the quality of the pots and the effort made to create the arrangement. Most are ready to be potted to adorn you home, office, or yard. All the plants that I've bought have turned out healthy and are great. Service has always been exceptional. Great place. They are quick to help because they have plenty of help. I drive 35 miles just to go to them because they are the best! Their store is always clean and organized. The employees are all really nice. When they approach you they ask where your planting it at, Rocky soil or another . Is there full sunlight or partial. They take their tine with you to help you to the best of their ability. I've been a member of Armstrong for years and never have I experienced such a terrible interaction with an employee. Amanda, 2nd assistant manager was so rude and condescending. Armstrong has a lifetime guarantee on their shrubs and trees. A few years back I purchased a couple blueberry plants, some made it, two didn't. I decided last December to trade them in and to try again. The new shrubs which I purchased didn't survive due to the extreme summer heat so I decided to call it quits on trying after 2 times. Amanda said I cannot get a refund because the lifetime replacement doesn't work once you've returned an item. I asked her to show me the policy because that was news to me. She kept saying the same thing over and over. Then she raised her voice in an attempt to publicly announce that customers can't return 10, 20, 30 times for a refund. The issue is, this was the second time I was making this return not 10, 20 or 30 times as she was using as her point. Then she proceeded in a loud tone that she will be making a note on my account so I wouldn't be able to return under the lifetime policy. I'm not sure how she has the grounds to do so. For someone making 2 returns on a product in the 6 years and thousands of dollars spent at this specific nursery to be told I wasn't able to and that she was going to make notes on my account was baffling. This was the worst customer service. I'm not sure how she was hired there. Every other employee/staff is kind, caring and understanding. She was unable to show me the policy of one lifetime replacement per item which was the reason I was able to get my return. I also searched online and on the site and nowhere on the site does it say you can't replace the same item more than once. There are many other nurseries in the area, I will be moving my business somewhere else after this disappointment. read more

I've gotten many plants from Armstrong over the years, from fruit trees for my garden to stunning mums and petunias for my patio, and more recently lots of houseplants for my growing collection. All my plants have been in great condition and are thriving -- even the ones I planted a couple of years ago! Whenever I come in, the staff has been super helpful and incredibly friendly. They've gone above and beyond to help me with whatever questions I have and solve any problems that have come up with my plants. Today, I came in for their wreath-making class with Annee and had such a wonderful time! Annee was great and everyone's wreath turned out beautifully!
