I requested a quote to replace dead grass with decorative rock in a small yard--about 750 sq ft (roughly 37 ft by 20 ft). His estimate came in at about $2,600. To understand the cost, I called local rock suppliers. Rock runs about $71 per ton, plus $75 delivery, and around a 10% fuel surcharge. For the 8-10 tons most companies quoted, that puts materials at roughly $900. Barrier/tarp material is around $100, so I estimated about $1,100 total for materials. Since he said the job would take about a day: removing the remaining grass, laying barrier, capping sprinklers, and spreading rock that means the remaining $1,500 of his quote would be labor. That number surprised me, because it made his total price about 65% higher than other quotes I received for the same amount of rock and the same scope of work. I will be going with another vendor because his price was over $1,000 more than the others. That said, he was polite and professional, and I can't comment on the quality of his work only the cost. I'm sharing this to help other customers make informed decisions. I recommend getting a few quotes for comparison. Hopefully this feedback also helps him stay competitive, because he seems like someone people would want to hire.

On 3/3, I reached out to him and he said he forgot to schedule me and had to reschedule me for 3/5. He quoted me $175 for: Weed removal Spray weed killer Blow out the debris Haul away everything I thought it was a lot but agreed to the price and told him that I didn't want chemicals sprayed. After he said he was done, I inspected and found weed roots still in the ground and debris everywhere. I asked him about it and he said the chemicals (that he wasn't supposed to spray) would kill everything and remove the debris. I was skeptical that the chemicals would magically clear away all the debris. He said to call him in 2 days if it didn't. I still had my doubts and asked for a $50 holdback in case the debris didn't go away. He countered with $25 and I knew then that if I called him, he simply wouldn't return my call. I stuck to the $50 and he agreed. 2 days later, the debris had not magically disappeared and I texted him with pictures to come back and finish the job, but he didn't respond as expected. Now, I have to clear the remaining weed roots and debris myself.

BEWARE OF HIRING THIS GUY. See pictures and review below…read more I hired Gerson to install a TWO zone irrigation system, but he only installed a ONE zone. Prior to starting he confirmed multiple times that it would be a two-zone setup, per text messages. After the installation, I found out from a different landscaper that only one zone was actually connected. So now I can't control how much water my trees versus smaller desert plants get. I reached out SEVERAL times over SEVERAL weeks to give him the chance to come back and check it, but he completely stopped responding. He claims he stands behind his work with a 2 year warranty, but so far that is false. This isn't the only issue either. We have dying plants because the drip lines barely reach them. Plants and trees falling over because of not enough support and also slowly dying from improper watering from not having a 2 zone system. AND a few days after the job was complete I noticed he cut up my backwash hose line for the pool pump. He claimed he didn't see it at first but him and his crew were literally the last ones in that area. He reluctantly shipped me a new backwash hose but didn't want to come install it so I had to do it myself because he stopped responding. Yes, maybe it's easy to install but why should I have to fix your mistake??? Promising one thing and delivering something different is completely DISHONEST. Now I'm stuck paying another contractor to fix all the other problems. I've been patient and gave him enough opportunity to resolve any issues before leaving a review, but being ignored for weeks leaves me with no other choice. I hope this helps others when deciding who to hire.
