ART FOR ART'S SAKE!…read more This gallery is really a co-op for artists. It has five rooms and is currently hosting approximately sixteen artists. There works are varied and include paintings, jewelry, sculpture and other mediums. When I walked in, I was immediately drawn to a black and white portrait of a man in a cowboy hat. It was very interesting because the artist had captured the very character of his subject. As I am bent over, I hear a voice and when I look up I see the artist and the subject standing there. Crazy! I go back to the art because it just draws me in. As I am exploring the piece, I learn that the subject is an actor, voice over artist and a poet. He actually performs what he describes as "cowboy poetry" but says "you probably won't like it". Wow, what a salesman. Never assume! I wish that he had a sample of his poetry available because a CD of the poetry was paired with his portrait for sale. I just don't purchase material unless I am familiar with it and somehow feel a connection. I feel that this was a missed opportunity. However, I did take a business card to follow up on the cowboy poet and his specific type of poetry. It was nice to talk to some of the artists and to look at their work. This was a very unique space and I noticed that it also hosts wine tastings which for wine drinkers is a great way to enjoy art. Art and wine just pair together quite nicely. If you are interested in their special events, you can check their Facebook page. This was a nice gallery and a nice departure from the hustle and bustle of the Gold Rush activity. It would be a nice destination on your journey through Dahlonega.

The gallery features several local artists, one of my new favorites being Steven Lester. I have found at least four of his paintings that I really love! It just feels "hometown" to me each time I come in. The owners are incredibly gracious and welcoming! Very knowledgeable about the artists represented there. I couldn't recommend visiting this gallery more! Must see!

As we wondered from shop to shop, the open doors and cute pup on the porch invited us in to a beautiful space filled with art of all styles. While the walls and tables were lined with completed pieces, the artist staffed for the day was in the middle of completing a beautiful animal print. Overall, Doreen's Art House is a great addition to the downtown Blue Ridge scene and is certainly a spot I will frequent when visiting the area!

Was told on numerous occasions that someone else is…read moreon vacation and they couldn't answer my questions only this one person could, but they're never there even when we're told they are and make a bit of a trip to get there and the person isn't there. I collect art with some pieces $100k+ with some from the baroque era and some that survived the world wars, so I know what I'm talking about. When I went in it was rudeness like they couldn't be bothered. Since I have many collections I started asking questions and the person working said they had no clue nor the did other people... they have zero knowledge of real art, nor do they care if they sale anything, so why even bother to have a place if you have no clue? In the end their art is completely worthless almost like a students art work, its pictures of dogs and bears and nothing of any value. It's more like they went to goodwill or a Ross store.

The piece I got was actually hand made in Colorado and not locally, but there were plenty of local pieces there to choose from. They have jewelry, paintings, pictures, pottery, etc. I wish I had found it sooner before I spent my vacation budget. The lady at the counter who I'm assuming is the owner was really nice as well and wrapped my mug up for me and offered to gift wrap it. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Blairsville.
