(over a year, actually) And the ADA Bathroom Stall is unusable to anyone who needs to use it because there is NO DOOR. It's gone missing. How does that happen? Anyhow, one would normally think that it is a violation to have no usable ADA accessible restroom stall ... however in today's time, 2025, is it possible that the Americans with Disabilities Act has been defenestrated? (They rarely open the women's restroom on the lift side; door is always closed/locked. This restroom has more functional toilets.... but it is rarely open for use. Like 99.9% of the time, the cleaner & more functional left side women's restroom is closed.) Problems in the right side women's restroom include : -- Only 1 fully working stall out of 5 stalls total. -- No usable ADA accessible restroom stall. -- 1st stall is unusable : closed "out of order" (closed for many months). -- 2nd stall is unusable : has missing toilet seat & the door does not lock. -- 3rd stall is unusable : closed "out of order" (closed for many months). -- 4th stall has working toilet & the door locks. -- 5th stall is unusable (large ADA stall) : has NO DOOR. In summary : Only 1 working toilet stall out of 5. Four out of five stalls are not fully functional (including the ADA stall). So the weird thing is that this rest area had been closed for a few weeks during the last month or two. After it reopened , NONE of the issues in the women's restroom were resolved. What did they do during all that time it was closed and blocked off to cars? .

Maybe they just wasn't business for that. That's fine. But the bathrooms. I've been coming here for years when I'm driving by and need to use the bathroom and stuff is out of order for months and months and even years either a faucet doesn't work. One of the urinals now is out of order and has been for months. The hand dryers don't work and when they don't work, it will be a year or two. Maintenance is pretty bad.

The lake nearby is called Lake El Estero, and is surrounded by El Estero Park. Located within the park is the famous Dennis the Menace park. El Estero Boating is located on the shore of the lake opposite Dennis the Menace Park and is where you can rent a paddle boat. What's nice is from the visitors center you can see both the paddle boat area and the Dennis the Menace Park so you can easily map out, and plan your day. With so much to see and do in Monterey I can see why at times it could be overwhelming to a person visiting the area. So this place is designed for a visitor who just doesn't know where to start. We did not go inside the building but I enjoyed the scenery behind the building. The Monterey County Visitors Bureau provides you with all the information you need about visiting the Monterey Peninsula. They have information on individual attractions, hotels, and restaurants. I heard they sometimes have coupons available too. The staff is there to provide guidance and give directions to locations throughout Monterey County. They are open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. They are closed on major Holidays such as Thanksgiving, December 25, January 1 and Easter Sunday. I can see how a family can easily spend a pleasant day at the park surrounding Lake El Estero. There were plenty of geese, seagulls, and ducks swimming around in harmony. We were only there a short while but there is a walking path that goes entirely around the lake. Along the walking path there is a unique exercise course with equipment and instructions. Plenty of benches and grass to have a little picnic. Just be aware that the birds can be a bit aggressive and I believe you are not permitted to feed them by law. There is a dog park and I believe there is also a skate park for skateboarders. Dennis the Menace park has always been a favorite with the kids with their one-of-a-kind fun playground equipment. Admission is free however the paddle boating rentals do have a fee. The last time I checked you can rent a paddle boat for a half an hour or an hour. In conclusion, if you are a visitor of the Monterey Peninsula, and are not sure where to go, this is the perfect place for you!

While I've passed this point several times, I didn't think this would be interesting, after stopping on the other side. There is much to see, as you can tell from the photos. 'Vista points like this one, the California Aqueduct, qualify as well. It's called Vista Point - California Aqueduct because it sits adjacent to the aqueduct. "You are here!" - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vista-point-california-aqueduct-newman?select=WhzgFy-UFMQjD3GQSa3-hw My thoughts on this are as follows: 1. Places like this are a privilege, NOT a right. 2. The state/government doesn't have to provide a roadside rest area, public park, beach, or a "place with a great view." (i.e. - Vista point) 3. I'm thankful and appreciative for these amenities. If you've ever played @ a city/state park, beach, used a public restroom, stopped @ a rest area to stretch your legs on a long @ss road trip, then you too have enjoyed the benefits of just what I'm talking about. The next time you come upon a vista point, you may want to take a moment and check it out... It'll only take a mere 15 - 30 minutes out of your very, long & exciting drive. Sometimes you just have to stop and enjoy the view... 'And if you time it just right, catch an awesome sunset. I've stopped at a few vista points on my many road trips to and from Southern California. I've been to this particular I-5 south, vista point three or four times. Think of a vista point as a barebones rest stop... 'With a view. There's no restrooms, no water, just a paved lot... 'And a view. There was a big rig, plus a small RV, and a couple who like me simply stopped to catch the sun as it set and disappeared into the horizon. For me, it wasn't just "another road trip sunset." Metaphorically, it was much more... The sun was setting on a yet another chapter of this adventure we call life. (Hey, I'm no Walt Whitman but I try.) Make it Great! Laugh well, laugh often... Luckily, people were coming and going constantly. So we were able to get a parking spot right by the welcome center. Once you park you have to pay for how long you intend to park there. We thought we would need only 45 minutes, which worked out perfectly. It was a little over $3 for 45 minutes. The welcome center is big inside and offers information about the bridge's history, science, and engineering through displays, photo's and videos. They sell tons of souvenirs all related to the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. I found a nice navy blue zip-up hoodie that I bought for myself. Checkout was fast and easy and all the employees were very nice and helpful. You can get a lot of nice photos, outside, of the Golden Gate Bridge. We took a few selfies. There is a coffee shop called the round house cafe across from the welcome center that sells coffee, beverages and food. There are also public restrooms available there. It was a beautiful day to be out there. The view of the bridge was so clear and beautiful.

Lol since my sister-in-law was visiting from Florida, we decided to do the tourist thing and take her to other iconic places in San Francisco!! There's a day pass parking spot. You can get a lot of people end up getting dropped off by Uber or to buses. Since there were three of us, my boyfriend stayed in the car as we walked around and took pictures! Then we rotated so we didn't have to pay for the parking pass. Lol. We never went in the gift shop so I never looked, but I could see from the outside. They had a lot of the iconic San Francisco paraphernalia along with books and historical references and kids toys and items for purchase. The view was really nice and there's a cool lookout spot where if you can get the angle right it looks like you're on top of the cloud. We waited in line to take the pictures we have of the bridge, everybody was really polite as they all waited in little groups behind and lined up down the walkway. Lol granted there were some influencers around and they spent about five minutes, taking poses and doing dances in front of us, but I guess that's what they do for the gram?! Hee
