If you're sixty or older and live in NYC, signing up for Lenox Hill Neighborhood House is a…read moreno-brainer. It's free, and there's a bunch of stuff to do. The upper eastside facility has a fitness center, swimming pool and a variety of classes (salsa dancing, guitar lessons, tech instruction.) Some classes reflect the large community of Asian seniors including English communication skills for Mandarin speakers. But there's also advanced beginner German! Unlike Saint Peters, this center operates seven days a week. They also offer three meals a day for a voluntary contribution of $1 for breakfast, and $1.50 for lunch and dinner. The fitness center borders on adequate -- a small room with some malfunctioning equipment, and not much of it. (I look at this as an alternative to Planet Fitness whose NYC locations pale in comparison to my Planet Fitness in Ardmore, PA -- but maybe not.) When you enroll, you can participate in programs at all Lenox Hill locations. (Besides St. Peters Church, I believe there's a center in the Village.) I'm a newbie to all this -- new-ish to town, but well over sixty! -- and from what I can tell, the staff and folks who participate are friendly and come from all walks of life.

The farmers market is open year around. This location is too far from my apartment to participate in the activities. If you live in the neighborhood I highly recommend you check the website and read these reviews to familiarize yourself with what they offer. There's something for everyone.

I've also followed their activity in the Upper East Side newsletters. A few years ago there was a incident where a person destroyed the lovely birdhouses that line 81 Street between First Avenue and York Avenue. This year I was happy to learn that the association was involved in the return of the birdhouses. The birdhouses are now seasonal from the spring to some time in November. When I learned they were up to view I decided I would take the time to visit. I've been photographing them for a few years now. I have a lot of photos taken on August 6, 2023. If you enjoy this craft and birdhouses you should enjoy my photos. I'm going to post 10 photos each day for as long as I have photos from this year to show you. In the meantime I want to commend the association for bringing together their residents and our community. I'm definitely a fan and recommend you visit this street and neighborhood. The shopping and eating establishments are amazing! It's neighborhood living Manhattan style.

I honest and truly have no complaints. Recently, I required 7-day-a-week coverage for my mom while I was on disability for three months and unable to care for her myself. During that time, Sunnyside sent me three exceptional PCAs. Destiny Walker handled the 40 weekday hours and was absolutely amazing with my mom and all of her care needs. Tiana Singh covered Saturdays (8 hours) and was also exceptional and very attentive. Margi Neablas, who worked Sundays(8 hours), may not be fully fluent in English, but she consistently went above and beyond for my mom, and was able to understand enough to make it work. I no longer need home care services now that my health has improved and I'm able to care for my mom again. However, if I ever need services in the future, I would be adamant about requesting Sunnyside Home Care--and specifically these three wonderful ladies. They will be sorely missed. Thank you to Destiny, Tiana, Margi, and Sunnyside Community Services.
