Our family has had a cabin in blue jay for over 30+ yrs and fortunately this is the first time we've ever had to use Arrowhead Animal Hospital services. My new (lil' menace) of a rescue pup decided to partake in a small amount of rat poison that was left on a sticky trap (we weren't told about) right when we got to the house. In a panic I rushed over w/o an appt. The doc I believe was about to leave, but the receptionist was able to ask if he could squeeze us in for an urgent care visit. I'm forever grateful that he was able to! They induced vomiting and gave him an injection afterward to stop it too. Thankfully he didn't eat much and ended up being okay! I'm a 20 year mountain local that supports and champions local businesses but this is one business i must speak against. We have had two bad experiences here-- both times feeling taken advantage of by overcharging and upselling of services. Both visits (two different dogs) required follow up and they were uninterested in helping me unless I would come in again so they can start the billing all over again. My dog was seen on a Monday. After a $700+ visit that ended in being sent home with just simple antibiotics, our dog was not improving. I was told when I left on Monday "call if he gets worse." Which is what i did today (Thursday). I was met with "no appointments available" but we can get you in since it's an emergency...but you guessed it! For an extra emergency fee. I asked if i could have a two minute phone consult with vet; I didn't feel like that was asking too much given the cost of services I already paid. But nope-- I must come in for a new consultation at the emergency price. The lady on the phone hung up on me without a "thank you" or "goodbye." As stated above, this was our second attempt at using this vet-- and had similar experiences both times. I do offer two stars instead of one because the veterinarian was kind and seemed genuinely interested in helping my dog. The rest of the experience was lackluster. read more

Excellent veterinary care. Reason for loss of star: Attitude from front office staff. One lady is nice and tried to fix the issue so that was good. Billing mistake. Tried to charge me for medicine that I never received or picked up. Nobody called me to tell me the medicine was available/ready for pick up. Manager asks: "are we SURE she didn't pick it up?" I'm sitting right there, mind you. Medicine date on bill was October 9th. On that date and until yesterday I was in Arizona....at my mother's funeral. Yeah, I'm fairly sure I didn't pick it up. read more

It's been almost an hour and I'm still not cooled off. I have this feral cat that I trapped at about 4/5 months of age. I made an appointment for him about 2 weeks after trapping. I told them he was feral, they said bring him in. I brought him in, Dr Malone opened the crate, he took off like a bullet. They had to catch him with a towel to re-crate him, said they couldn't do anything that day, and sent me home with some gabapentin to try again next time. So cool, this cat I've been working so hard to tame just got a ton of unnecessary trauma for no reason. I guess I'm back to square one. My problem! I ask the receptionist, can I just neuter him and give him his shots at the same time to minimize the trauma? No we don't do that here, he has to have his shots before we schedule him. Ok. We have a go again some weeks later and the gabapentin isn't quite enough, so they sedate him and I must leave him and pick him up later. I come to pick him up, they say come back in blah blah blah for his booster. I say, ok, so, what, give him the gabapentin again?? yes, give him gabapentin. Ok. I give him gabapentin, but again, it's not enough, and this time he is wise to the feeling and the treat trail to his crate, so I end up having to wrestle with him quite a lot. Ultimately I burrito wrap him as a straitjacket and shove him in. Fantastic for our relationship, surely. I take him to the vet. The tech looks at his chart and says, oh I don't know WHY we scheduled you like this! Can we just have you come back Monday and we'll neuter him and give him his booster then? So AGAIN I have p!$sed on my relationship with this cat for a literal pointless trip to the vet. For the second time. All the while, you could have just put him on the neuter list. And ultimately, it's on me. It's my cat. I didn't advocate hard enough. I restrained my cat. I stuffed him into the crate. It's been sloppy and incompetent. It's sad. It's actually just really sad. I'll go through with the neuter. They neutered my prior no problems. I've come here for years. But after this is done, I don't know. I'm just very hurt... at the look of betrayal from this cat that I only have good intentions for. One trip to the vet that results in literally NOTHING BUT trauma, I don't like it, but TWO trips? Negligent. Negligent, rushed, careless. I wish they took me seriously when I said he was feral. read more

I would give them more stars if I could. I had to put my sweet senior toy poodle down near closing time today, and the entire staff was absolutely wonderful, kind, non judgmental and ushered us into a room immediately. I am so very thankful they allowed us to come in at closing and put my sweet Barbie to rest as her quality of life deteriorated very quickly at the end. I would absolutely recommend Arrowhead Animal Hospital and am so grateful to them for caring for Barbie and me, as I was very sad, tearful, and not myself, saying good bye to my beloved companion. read more

I want to thank the Arrowhead Animal Hospital on how they handled the death of our beloved 11 year old golden retriever. We are new to the mountain and Colin died very unexpectedly. We took him to the hospital to be cremated & the two employees that helped us were very nice and gentle as they moved Colin onto their gurney. Picking up Colin's ashes was a very emotional moment and the woman who helped me was very very sweet. There was another woman near her who didn't acknowledge me, didn't greet me, didn't smile. What I picked up blew me away in such a positive way. I thought I was only paying for the cremation but I received a high quality wood box, with Colin's name on it, a certificate, and a print they made of Colin's paw that really touched me in such a profound way. read more

In March 2021 one of my cats was showing signs of a serious illness. Arrowhead Animal Hospital told me they had no appointments. Even when I told them the serious nature they made no attempt to squeeze me in. The receptionist refused to give me even the price of a basic office visit. When I asked what the prices of labs were she refused stating that they were not allowed to "by law". The fee schedule? I called two other vets and got prices without hesitation. They had no immediate appointments. I called Arrowhead back now that my cat needed to be put to sleep only to be told to park our front, they would take my pet carrier, put my cat to sleep, then they would bring him back dead. Absolutely no way to say goodbye to a beloved family member. I called another local vet that got me right in. They reverently escorted me through a through a private entrance and into a room. Soft music was playing with candles burning. When all was completed they escorted me out a private exit. I have had to have a pet put to sleep at Arrowhead and never received such kind service. Their staff took an already emotional situation and made it unnecessarily difficult. After 15 years I will never return to Arrowhead Animal Hospital. I absolutely would never refer them to another pet owner. read more

My cat and I had a 10am appt this am. We showed up early, we're never told they were running behind, until I asked how much longer at 10:25am. I was told another 10 minutes we had one pet who showed up late for an appt. 15 more minutes at 10:40am now a different receptionist tells me they have sick pets who take priority over appt. in the back and we can't tell you how much longer your wait will be. At 10:55am after an hour of waiting for our 10am appt we left. No call or follow-up from the vet's office. Horrible, unprofessional service. If you're way delayed in seeing patient, call us or atleast give us a heads up of the excessive delay at check in. In addition their fees are 20% more than other local vets on the mountain. I also wanted to send an update regarding this matter, the owner did not have the decency to contact me regarding the unprofessionalism of the hospital. Instead, the doctor called me and told me that because I posted this review, I was no longer welcome to bring my dog back. Pathetic and laughable as if they are the only vets on the planet and in the area. My dog lost her ability to walk due to this episode. On January 16 I took my dog, Gracie (full size Pyrenees) to have the necessary treatment in order to board her in the future. The cost was $502.43. When I call this week, I was told I would have to board her for a day to see how she behaves in an enclosure. This cost would be $32,00, Then I was told they only have one enclosure that would accommodate a large dog. I asked if it was available the dates I would be boarding her. It was not. I've gone to this vet for over 20 years. They've always been very nice and attentive and taken good care of my animals. The office staff, however, is a different story. They are usually rude, abrupt and seem distracted and just too busy to do anything but answer phones, take your money and move you along. I tried to make an appointment to get a vaccine and was given a date two weeks out? WTH. I've been a good and loyal client for years. I'll go to another vet where me, my pets and my money are appreciated and respected. Apparently you are so busy you just don't need the extra work or money. read more

Heartless. Rude. Impossible to get help for dogs in pain. Limited hours of operation Refer horrible vet off the mountain when closed. The limited hours and limited appointments make any kind of urgencies impossible to address. Others have reported on this same issue. We had a simple request, our regular vet called them to fill a pain prescription for our dogs. They would not fill it without an appointment, but they had no appointments. The rude receptionist refused to help work out any options to get our dogs pain relief. I was shocked by the disregard for the situation. I was pleading and she refused. Our dogs pain was of no concern to her. Your reply leaves out the information that our regular vet has seen our dogs recently for the prescription. Why don't you trust the work of another reputable vet? And you still made no effort to help us out. We were willing to pay for another vet visit and you couldn't help us. All local pharmacies were called and don't carry a dog specific medication. But you do and won't help our dogs in pain. read more

The front desk is incredibly rude. Asking about how much the cost for initial exam is and being accused of not being able to afford the care for my pet. Another time we called needing to put our very beloved very senior pet down. The receptionist was so insensitive telling us we must pay for a full of check up, to make sure we're not just killing her. YES HER WORDS WERE KILLING HER!!! I just can't support a business that on multiple occasions has treated my family and even friends less than dog feces. The veterinary care is excellent! Did a very complicated neutering (one my puppy's testicles hadn't dropped & they had to go way up inside to find it & remove it) & had to do a surgery to get the foxtails out of my puppy's ears which were causing him to have an ear infection & saved my dog, Angel's life who had been attacked by a coyote. However, if your pet has an emergency--my baby girl, Angel was sick & acted like she was dying, & you show up "unannounced," like I did (came in 1st thing on a Sat. morning right after they had opened up their office) because their message machine would not let me leave a message, letting them know about my "emergency," you will be charged $80 for walking in & not making an appt. even though no one was waiting for their animal to be seen in that vet's office. & you will also be charged about the same amount, $77.00, if you don't schedule an appt. ahead of time & they have to "squeeze" you in (which to me is just "an excuse" to charge you more) because most of us know when we take our animal in to see the vet, we can't schedule an appt. ahead of time because we didn't know they were going to be sick nor have an "emergency". The only appt's scheduled ahead of time at a vet's office are surgeries, like neutering/spaying, or a wellness check, which are few & far between... the majority of animals who need to be seen on that day are either acting sick or have an unforeseen "emergency," so that means almost everybody will be paying more $$$ because they will have to be "squeezed in". When I brought Angel in, the vet seemed to be somewhat irritated that I wouldn't spend an exorbitant amount of $$$-- about $430 on unnecessary tests to see why Angel was dying when he knew it would be a total waste of money because it wouldn't save her life & she would probably die within 24 hours (which she did) because she was a "senior citizen," had severe symptoms of kidney failure which he thought she had from looking at her & asking me a few questions (she had quit eating the night before & couldn't stand up on her hind legs that morning & had recently lost weight), so if she couldn't be "saved," why would he be upset that I wouldn't waste my money on tests that weren't going to make a difference & save her life? A lot of vets offices nowadays seem to want to run expensive tests which are unnecessary because it pays the bills, knowing they are unnecessary because they can't save the dog's life or it will only extend it for a very brief time... after all, when they are a senior citizen in dog years, you can only extend their life by months because a dog ages 7 yrs in one year... well, I am glad I took Angel home & she died peacefully that evening & didn't waste my hard earned money on tests that wouldn't have saved her... The "plus side" is that the veterinary care is excellent but the "downside" is that most office visits will be expensive because you will be told that they will have to squeeze you in because you didn't make an appt. ahead of time and they may want to run unnecessary & expensive tests. read more

This place is EXCEPTIONALLY clean! I was floored by how clean the examination room is. I think it shows that the staff actually CARE about where they work!!! Our 6 lbs baby had cut his paw pad the night before and we were able to grab a 9am appointment because someone cancelled, very luck for us indeed! Dr. Malone and her examination staff was SOoooo...... nice! I also trust what she says, she knows her stuff! Our regular Vet in the desert just moved out of state, so i am extremely glad we at least found someone trustworthy when we are in LAH. read more

I cannot express how much I appreciate the Doctors and staff at this animal hospital. Had I not changed veterinarians when I did, one of our dogs would likely have died. Dr. Malone and Dr. Coleman have taken great care of both of my dogs since we moved to their practice over one year ago. One of my fur babies became very ill in October 2021. She was diagnosed with immune-mediated thrombocytopenia and immune-mediated neutropenia. Not only did the Drs. assist with getting our baby into emergency care, but they have continued, for the past year, to monitor her progress and assist us with medication management and regular blood draws for analysis. I have found Dr. Malone and Dr. Coleman to be caring, compassionate and knowledgeable. They take the time to ensure the well-being of their patients. Both Drs. have worked diligently and patiently with me while caring for my baby and supporting us in every way possible to ensure her full recovery. I would also like to commend the front office staff (especially Erin and Sheryl) and the vet techs for their support, understanding and compassion as I have had to go through so much with my baby. They are ALL very busy and sometimes stressed but they ALWAYS take the time to answer my questions, schedule appointments, and return my calls when necessary. The staff are caring and compassionate which is SO appreciated and SO hard to find nowadays. I highly commend and recommend this animal hospital! Do not go to this vet if you care about your pet. I had a very sick kitten that I had received advice on what needed to be done from a friend that was a vet in another state. When I requested from this vet what needed to happen, simple IV fluids and a few other things, the vet here refused saying it could harm her, he just wanted to run some extra expensive tests to prove what he had already run tests on in a previous visit and then asked me if Id like to put her down now or wait until she stopped eating then come back to put her down. I left there horrified by his attitude and because it was covid, I watched him use similar horrible tactics on other pet owners in the car park before my turn. Luckily a friend who is a medical doctor who happens to love cats drove to me that day and administered the IV fluids my cat needed, taught me how to do it myself as my kitten would need more due to being deeply dehydrated from her illness and helped me get the right medication for her. It has been a year since this horrible episode and my cat is thriving and we couldnt imagine life without her!! Had I not been the strong willed person I am and gave in to a vet "knowing better than me:" and didn't continue to look for other solutions, she would have been put down that day. So my advice stay away from this place - also they charge double what anyone else charges. Overall horrible experience. If you care about your pet, don't take it to Dr. Coleman. He's insensitive, arrogant, rude, condescending, and, as I've come to find out recently talking with a friend and another neighbor, he's developed a bad reputation among others in our local community for the reasons mentioned above. After my wellness appointment with him yesterday, I'm afraid I'd have to agree with them. I don't want my dog in the hands of someone who seemingly doesn't care about my dog -- or its owner, for that matter, for Coleman's disrespect and rudeness. I recently took my kitten here to get shots and two of them came out to my car to let me know "how terrible and vicious my little kitten was". They were extremely rude and asked me if my cat was feral? I instantly panicked thinking there was something wrong with her. They then proceeded to tell me that my kitten was the absolute worst cat they have ever dealt and were acting like they couldn't handle her. Mind you, she is the sweetest and most gentle kitten. These people are so unprofessional and rude and treat their customers like garbage. They are also so overpriced. They tried to charge me $1000 for my dog to get X-rays and blood drawn. I too experienced a staff and Dr. Coleman as being cold, callous and rude. They told me that I could only have my cat euthanized outside on a gurney if I wanted to be with him. CAN YOU IMAGINE SUGGESTING SUCH A HIDEOUS THING TO A PET OWNER! " Don't let the snow bother you. Lets just step outside and I'll make it quick." Right then I drove my precious Carlo an hour and a half to the Cat Care Clinic in AH where he was treated for a decade before we moved to the mountain. They took me immediately and of course had my husband and I present in a room for our farewell. Now its time for our precious Sophia and I was looking on YELP and found a vet in San Bernardino with mostly 5 star reviews AND THEY ALLOW THE PET OWNERS INTO THE LOBBY FOR ANY VISIT! Just wear a mask. Of course! Yesterday I was at my doctors office and all patients in the waiting room were wearing masks and the chairs were positioned 6 feet apart. What makes Coleman think that his place is any more special than St. Joes who treat humans? The few times I went to him he always had such negative feedback for everything. He always sounded like we was afraid of being sued. By the way, the poor man who swore at all of you pales in comparison to your rude and cold attitudes thru out the office. YOU brought out the worst in him and reprimanding him on YELP is indicative of your callousness and uncaring ways. Its only a matter of time......... read more

Surprised there are not more positive reviews on here. I posted on Facebook and all my locals pals recommended this vet...everyone! Staff was friendly when I made the appt and arrived. The vet tech, Phillip (?) was very cool. Made sure to quote me on extra cost of any services. My pup was acting a little weird about his tummy..thought maybe a urinary issue but doc gave him the green light. We'll def be back for our annual check ups and necessary shots. This was my dogs first vet visit since I adopted him and he is quite leery of new people and men for sure. He was a little nervous but they were great with him. read more

Dr Coleman is such a good vet. My dog Seamus has absolutely thrived under his care and has had such an improved quality of life. My 16 yr old Chihuahua was suffering from an enlarged heart. Called AAH because I couldnt watch my little guy suffer anymore. The whole office staff was super kind and Dr Malone had the deed of seeing Chewy for his last appointment. Thank you so much Arrowhead Animal Hospital for your kindness in my last hours with Chewy. They gave me as much time as I needed to say goodby even though it was getting close to closing time for them. They did not rush but were very compassionate. The care for my pets here is great. Dr. Mann is very genuine about vet medication and kind to my girls(Lola and Snickers). Recently had to have tumor removed from Snickers. Everything went well. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Boarded my girls there in January. Both said they had a great time. Will board them again in the fall. read more

Worst experience I've ever had with a veterinarian it was our first time and we had to wait over an hour and still didn't get a dog checked out would not recommend this vet at all. Just got a reply from the veterinarian at this clinic. He tried to say that we didn't have an appointment and I did not come in the side with my dog. At least he got one thing right. So we rescued a stray kitty a couple of weeks ago (we've named her Evie, short for Evinrude, because she sounds like an outboard motor when she purrs.. which is often). Long story short, she had a massive abscess (most likely from a cat bite) that was pushing on her spine and on its way into her chest cavity, which would have killed her. We were able to make an appointment on a Thurs. (Aug. 30) after noticing there was something wrong with her Wed. night, and followed up with surgery to drain the abscess Friday afternoon (July 1). We took her back this Monday (July 11) to have her ears checked out because we were afraid she had ear mites. Good news, turned out to be a minor ear infection. The doctors and the nurses here are just amazing. I haven't met them personally, as my husband has taken her in all 3 times, but he can't stop raving about the wonderful staff and the attention and loving care they've provided Evie. You would NOT be able to tell that just 2 short weeks ago, she almost died. That's how well she's recovered, thanks to the able and caring staff. Evie is now a healthy, loving, awesome kitty and as long as Evie lives in the mountains, she'll ONLY be taken care of by Arrowhead Animal Hospital. And, we're planning a trip in November and can rest assured Evie will be well taken care of because they also provide animal boarding, with the option of bringing in her regular food and toys. read more

Do not take your pets here. First, we had to bring our dog in for an examination last week,and office visit normally starts at $40.00 but they charged us $180.00 for a Wednesday mid-day appointment. They claim they had to charge 'emergency pricing', but the governor had not yet declared a stay at home order. Then they proceed to misdiagnose our dog and charge us $660.00. We learned of the misdiagnosis when we took our dog to a real vet. Arrowhead said pancreatitis. The real vet in Ontario- VCA Veterinary specialists said, no- no pancreatitis. Laryngeal Paralysis and surgery will be required. I do not paying for great care, but I do mind price gouging along with misdiagnosis. Again, do not take your pet's here. read more

Not a fan, this place wasn't a fit for me. I've been to many vets, and this was a weird experience, I'm still scratching my head. Nurses asked a ton of questions, and then the vet came in lecturing - little to no conversation. The visit was focused on things I didn't come there for in the first place, like my dog's diet. Way too many assumptions. They wanted to run tests. I left feeling like I was a bad dog Mom. I've had dogs my whole life. My last baby lived to 17; I made her food and my last vet said, she was the healthiest older dog he'd ever seen. California Vet Hospital in Carson is amazing, so for me, it's worth the drive. read more

Actual doctor was very nice but other staff including desk workers and tech were rude. Tech told me that the diet I was feeding my dog (grain free) would eventually cause heart failure and that she was probably not even gluten sensitive. And in fact she said most people are not really allergic to gluten. Wow, Really??? I believe that statement is false and beyond your scope. Also took hours to verify my previous vet records and argued back and forth w previous vet about certain vaccines/dates. Won't be back. read more

We just moved into the area full time about a year ago. We needed to find a new vet to take or pets to. Since Arrowhead Animal Hospital was the closet to us, we gave them a try. We found the staff to be welcoming and helpful. Dr. Malone is the best. She has been taking care of our little dachshund. Recently, we took in a Staffy rescue. She, equally, has assisted us with her to ensure she was looked over, had her shots as well as a few other things we needed for our new addition.
