We stayed at these cabins because of a family float trip on the Niobrara River. We rented out all…read morefive cabins for the weekend and it was great. Not a bad drive to the river and so peaceful and private. 2 queen size beds, a table for 4, and comfy sitting chair in a large room. The bathroom was small but worked, no tub but larger shower. Nice place to stay but not a lot to do on site, we had 4 families and 3 kiddos so we had lots of stuff(and a plastic kid pool) so that was cool but defiantly need to have plans to occupy yourself, unless you are just going to relax. All the cabins have webers which was great way better than the normal camp grills, outdoor table and chairs are older and there is only 2, so bring extra outside chairs. There is a large fire pit, all cabins share it worked great for us but all family so no problem there. Bring bug spray, yard fogger, mosquito suits, or anything else you can think of to kill mosquitoes because they were thick here. Dorothy was a friendly lady and very nice. Nice place to take a family and very affordable.

Husband and I went with my co-worker (separately) - as we had planned a Niobrara River float. We…read morereserved two cabins for a Friday and Saturday night stay, well in advance, and sent our deposits the same day reservations were made. Hours before our arrival, my co-worker gets a call from the owner stating that she accidentally overbooked. She had other people coming to stay for a week. Owner presumptuously suggested that my co-worker just stay in our cabin. Really??? Awkward!!! (We're co-workers, have never traveled together and my husband didn't know her at all prior to this trip). My co-worker said that wasn't going to work so the owner said my co-worker could just stay in her house, in her bedroom. Again, Awkward!!! When my co-worker arrived that night, with her coolers, she asked if she could put her food in the owner's fridge to store/keep cold. She was told "NO, the fridge is full". (Owner sells ice but did not offer any to her for her coolers). The mini fridge in our cabin was completely full otherwise we would have offered her use of that. Owner stated that she was cold so she was going to shut air conditioning off in her house, over night. My co-worker sweated all night, both nights, as it was hot in the house. She had no kitchen privileges to make coffee or breakfast. We had her come to our cabin for both. This is NOT the same as having your own reserved space to do your own thing in the morning (or any time of the day or night). Now... moving on to our cabin amenities... cabins are clean and nice enough but the good points are completely negated by other aspects. 1. Shower head almost completely clogged and NO water pressure. Water temperature is NOT adjustable. It's either scalding (really) or freezing cold. You absolutely cannot shower children, as they WILL get burned. (No bath tub, but shower is quite large and has 2 corner "seats".) 2. Coffee pot takes an HOUR to brew coffee as it is clogged. It leaves chunks of water deposits on the top of the coffee grounds. 3. After running water in the sinks, there are chunks of water deposits left in the sink - every time. And we had to have water for our tubing trip!!! YUCK. 4. Mini refrigerators - too small for anything more that a couple nights/days stay. Freezer compartment smaller than a shoe box. 5. WiFi not working or unavailable - as there is little to no cell coverage in this area, it is imperative that some sort of communication is available. We had no intention of internet surfing but wanted to look up local points of interest to visit. This was just a really disappointing experience. It's apparent the owner is trying to get by on the cheap. Water filters should be installed, shower heads and coffee pots should be cleaned or replaced. Faucet in shower needs to be replaced as it doesn't work properly (to regulate water temperature) and someone could get seriously burned. And I'm not buying the "accidentally overbooked" excuse. The owner had the opportunity to either make $109 per night (for 2 nights) from my co-worker or a weeks worth of money from the other people - so my co-worker got screwed. In all fairness, I do want to mention that my co-worker was not charged the balance of her bill and she was offered a refund of her deposit. That still does not change the fact that this was a very BAD experience. Due to the cabin problems mentioned above, these are $50/night cabins, at most. Definitely not worth $109 per night.

Plywood on a part of the ceiling to cover what looks a leak in the past. Speaking of plywood, love the plywood vanity held up by 2x4s in the bathroom. Okay, so this Yelp page desperately needs to be updated with more accurate information. First,…read moreKingsley lodge is now under new ownership and the old reviews are not really applicable to the business under the new ownership. Second, it is no longer called Kingsley Lodge but Kingsley Dam Resort on their website. You can also find the same exact cabins on Airbnb. It's cheaper to book through their direct website. Don't try to copy and paste the address from their website into Apple Maps. For some reason, it reroutes you a different way. We solved this by just dropping a pin at 1510 N-61, Ogallala, NE. (Check in at the gas station) I highly recommend that the owners of the lodge update this page so that customers aren't confused like we were! Third, yes the cabins are directly across from the water. However, I would not consider it accessible for most people. My husband, toddler, and I were able to climb down the trail by taking turns in passing off our child in between the rocks. I would say most moderately fit individuals can deal with the steep climb. I don't recommend taking a small child unless you are very confident that they can handle it. With that being said, WOW it was well worth the hard work to arrive to our own private beach. It was hard to believe that we were in Nebraska and not Southern California! The cabins ARE clean, but pretty dated. By the time we paid the nightly rate, pet fee, and other fees, it came to $200 for the night. I did feel that it was worth it but I really wish that we got more bang for our buck. It is called a resort but I don't believe there are any real amenities like a pool or anything. I think there is a lot of room for progress in this area. For dinner, we went to Driftwood in downtown ogallala. (About 12 minutes away). The burgers were very good and supplied by a local beef ranch. I recommend eating there for a nice dinner. Overall, 4/5 stars. I'd say this would be an excellent spot for people that love adventure. As most of their online reviews and FB page says, the new owners are superb and are bringing this place in an amazing direction!
