From the first phone call to make our reservations I knew this was going to be a pleasant experience. The type of accommodations we wanted were all ready reserved so they offered us a Cottage at a discount. Great business! They kept me from calling another campground and gave me a deal I felt was more than generous. They also made me loyal without even staying there yet. Upon arrival we were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. Check in was quick. As I walked in to Cottage 2, I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and amenities, so I quickly took some pictures before we made ourselves at home. This is a great little, cozy cabin! It comfortably sleeps four but there's room for six with a private bedroom in the back with a double bed, bunk beds in the kitchenette/front area, and a small but adequate loft that has a double mattress. There's a bathroom with towels for three and they even give it that special touch with travel size shampoo, conditioner and soap. In the kitchen they supplied hand soap and dish soap as well as paper towels, a hand towel and dish cloth. They have plates, cups, silverware, a few pots and pans and utensils. There's a fridge, stove/oven, and microwave. No baking pans are supplied, if you're so inclined to bake a pie! The back bedroom has a double bed with linens supplied. There's a private backyard area with a fire pit and a little BBQ grill. Also a picnic table and some logs for seating. Very cute and the view is amazing. You can tell they care about their customers and they take pride in the details of their camp. It's a great place to stay. I hope we can go again soon!

My boyfriend and I just returned from a long weekend staying in a yurt. Let me start by saying this was such an incredible experience! We had never been to Buena Vista, but we only live a few hours away. The owner was polite and helpful right off the bat as we checked in. The yurt was quaint and comfortable for 2. We slept in a queen bed but they also had a set of bunk beds inside. Along with the beds were a bench, a mini refridgerater, a few chairs, and a space heater!! There was also a ceiling fan, lights and electric outlets. The campground was quiet on the Thursday that we arrived. Yes, we are not very far from the road, but I knew that going in and it didn't bother me! As the weekend went on the campground filled with happy families. There were great family friendly activities that the campground organized. We had very friendly neighbors and every one there seemed happy to be there! It felt like a great environment. The bathrooms were SPARKLING! seriously, so clean and fresh! The showers were not free, but are they ever?! I'd gladly pay $1.00 for a 6 minute shower in a facility that nice, considering I'm camping! I've read many of the reviews on here, and I'm a bit confused by the negative ones. I've worked in costumer service my entire life and I just want to say that All of these poor reviews that mention things like 'we didn't know we couldn't forage firewood' or 'the showers weren't free!' and 'we didn't know there was a cancellation fee'.... ALL of those things are listed on their website!! If people took their time and paid attention, there wouldn't be a need for such a poor review! I got everything and more that I expected based off of All the research and experience I've done/had. All and all it was great! The staff was always there when I needed something, walking around smiling and waving! The owner was a doll and when I told her how great of a time we had, we lit up like a light bulb! She really takes pride in this campground and I will certainly be back!!!!

Windy and no river access. It was kinda cheap and a ten min drive to Buena vista so not bad.

Be Careful if you have small children or pets. There are cactus everywhere, all over our campsite.

The Canadian bacon BENEDICT was awesome presentation and plentiful and tasty. The 2 organic eggs were superb and the elk sausage patty was excellent addition. We've had mixed experiences with boutique hotels, but this is an example of one done well. It's conveniently located downtown on Main Street (upstairs) and is a perfect way to either visit the city, or enjoy a night while passing through. The front desk is virtual in the form of text messaging, which we had zero issue with getting our room code and to check out, and we found they responded to our inquiry about parking promptly. The parking lot is off of Railroad street in a public lot that we had zero issues with. The electronic locks for the rooms took a moment to understand, but worked fine to lock/unlock the room. (Hint: Double tap the logo and the keypad appears). Though the pricing can be a bit expensive, it seems in line with what you can expect to pay in mountain towns. Overall, our stay at The Inn left us with the feeling that we got what we paid for, and we would absolutely stay here again.

The safe in the room was already locked when I arrived. Was told they couldn't find the key fob to open it. Took a day to fix. New toilet had 3 or 4 problems. Installed incorrectly. I fixed a few of the issues to keep it from sticking but still could use some work. I didn't have any noise issues. The restaurant below closes at 9pm. I stayed 3 nites and was hiking most days and going to bed at 8-9pm. The mattress and pillows were fantastic as well as well functioning A/C and a good ice machine. There are no dressers in the room. Not even luggage stands. You Have to work out of your luggage from the floor. Not good for this level of Inn. No usable chair in the room. There was one "sling" chair that was not easy to sit on and zero back support. I like a chair to read. I don't like to have to sit in the bed whenever I used the room. I sat in the chair to put on my socks and boots and the chair tipped over and my forehead struck the edge of the bed leaving a half inch cut. Minimal blood. Trash, trash, trash!!!! There was one trash can located in the bathroom and no place to empty trash. Hydrate, hydrate. I used a case of water and 16 bottles of Gatorade. Nowhere to put the empty bottles. There are 25 steps to to rooms. I am athletic older man. It was painful to carry multiple 40 lb. suitcases and packs up those stair. The Inn did send me a text...... on the last day, asking what they could do to improve my stay. To little too late. I have been gone for 4 days. I had expected the INN to reach out to me personally about my issues. I expect the owner to respond to this review. That is all u can expect for service during you stay.... The perfunctory virtual response. This place has potential but alot to learn about hospitality. I sincerely wish them luck.

The building is right on the main road, so it is easy to find and the location was quite convenient, since there was a good restaurant a few doors down, a breakfast/coffee shop almost right next door and a 7-eleven across the street. The woman at the desk was almost hostile so I didn't think it worth asking for another room. The room was basic, with a 90s tv we didn't turn on. The beds were fair - the kind that bend when you sit down. The sheets were old, thin but clean. The bedspreads were almost quiltlike - made out of real, fairly thick material - rather than the shiny, satiny material normally found in inexpensive motels. I don't know whether this is good or bad. Mike Rowe in "Dirty Jobs" takes the bed spreads off the bed in every motel he stays in. He doesn't trust what's happened on them. There were two bath towels, no more, no less. The price was a total of $104 for two queen beds. I asked what the cost was in the winter and the unfriendly innkeeper said $69 plus taxes, etc. The front desk area was cluttered and filthy. There were animal heads on the wall behind the stone faced lady that hadn't been dusted since the 60s. Off to the right of the woman's shoulder was a calendar with the face of Donald Trump glaring pugnaciously at you. I didn't read the bold phrase underneath his head. The next cheapest motel with rooms was $170 or so. I would stay here again, but would look at the room first and make sure the AC worked.

We were initially greeted by what we thought were two bikers who described the place as "perfect". However, we then found out one of the bikers was the owner as he followed in after us and positioned himself behind the main counter. We felt somewhat lured in and ended up paying him in cash for a room we regrettably didn't check out first. When we pulled up to our room and opened the door dank cigarette smoked permeated the entire room. I knew it was bad when my boyfriend decided to not sit on the bed comforter (which was tattered and frayed at the edged, and had a moist feel to it) and instead, stripped the bed down to the sheets. There were several dead bugs (probably dead from inhaling the toxic air inside) on the bathroom floor and moths flying around the main room. There was no natural light to really illuminate the place and, frankly, I was too scared to turn a light on in fear I'd discover more critters. Our one "neighbor" was also quite sketchy. She appeared to be a strung out meth head mother of three who let her children run a muck all over the front parking lot for entertainment. She came out of the room what seemed to be every half hour to smoke and cig and nervously look around. I know the motel can't control for this, but it just added to the repulse I felt at the notion of sleeping there. This is quite honestly the most disgusting motel I have ever paid for. The gorgeous view of the mountains was of no redemption for the filth that was caked all over this place. My boyfriend and I debated whether sleeping in our car rental or searching for and staying in the Sumac Lodge was a better option; we went with the latter and it felt like sleeping in a luxury 5-star comparative to mountain view. I have every confidence that if the health bureau of Buena vista would actually check this place they would condemn it on the spot. It's a shame because it's location is great and, from the outside, it appears to be a promising spot. Overall, this place is a definite health hazard and should be shut down.

After everyone checked out Saturday morning, the room next to mine had the mattress in the parking lot, the box spring flipped upside down with the whole bed area being wiped down like they were looking for bed bugs. No carpet was in that or any of the other rooms in the motel, but the one I stayed in. The following evening after I left, I started to notice red welts all over my body. It just set me on edge a little so I made sure I took photos of everything before we settled in to the room and when we left. Having got that out of the way, The Slackwater Inn is a comfortable little motel with limited number of rooms which have been renovated and decorated to make it stand out from the crowd. We opted for a King room with patio and mountain views. It gave us what was promised. We loved the contactless aspect of obtaining access to the room. After 2pm, we received a text with the passcode for the room. Perfect. We were able to pull the car up right in front of the room, key in the code and voila, the room awaited! Things we really liked about the room, apart from the contactless check-in, was in no particular order, a smaller room upon entry which housed the fridge, microwave, coffee maker. There was also a desk and chair, and a breakfast bar style table with two stools. This room also had double doors which led into the bedroom. I saw someone else complained about noise from the road during the night, however, I closed these doors when we went to bed and didn't hear a thing. The bed was comfortable. There is definitely a lot of space in the room so you don't feel cramped. Having the patio area also added to the feeling of space. There's a flat screen tv (which we didn't use), a ceiling fan and what appears to be two other methods of heating/cooling. There's a sliding door which opens onto the fenced patio area. The sliding screen door was very difficult to get to slide, so once we opened it, we left it open. It also had tears at the top. We had our dog travelling with us. They do ask that dogs not be allowed on the bed but they provide a dog blanket just in case. We put that on the bed, along with the two clean blankets we got from our car, just in case, our pup sneaked up on the bed during the night. The bathroom is cute and very functional and clean. It's been completely remodelled away from the stock standard modular bath/shower you get in so many motels to a fully tiled, step-in shower with lots of room. The water pressure could be better but the shower was hot. Nice touches in the bathroom? Hairdryer and a make-up removal towel. I can see why they provide the towel so they do protect their white towels (also quite good quality). They also provide another towel for any spills or dog mess. They are quite firm about cleaning up dog messes on the patio lest you receive an extra cleaning charge, however, I found another dog's mess on our patio. I made sure I cleaned that up, as well as the other trash that was in the area, so we didn't get dinged for that. You can see the pattern of being paranoid about getting extra charges. Their business model is like an Air BnB There is a gate that leads from the patio area to a dog run out back as well. They had a well-stocked doggie-do bag dispenser there to make sure you had no excuse to not clean up after your dog. The Slackwater Inn is not located in BV itself but a little village just outside called Johnson Village. It's only a five minute drive into downtown BV and we went into the downtown area for dinner on the night of our stay. The room has a folder with all kinds of information in there including restaurant menus, motel rules, etc. All-in-all our stay at the Slackwater was enjoyable and reasonably priced. There was an additional, non-refundable pet deposit but that is fairly normal for pet-friendly places. It is exactly as described on the website and it would be a perfect home-base if you're in the area to explore the many activities and sights available in the area.
