As I write this I'm in my home (I live across the creek on the opposite side of Southwood Drive) with all windows shut and very clearly hear it, from a distance of 300 ft. I mentioned the distance because the city's own noise ordinance states, in pertinent part: "Between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., it is a violation to make or allow noise that can be heard 50 feet from your property line." My residence is five times the distance spelled out in the ordinance. However, I walked back through my complex to see how far the noise was audible. I stood at the basketball court fence adjacent to my property - a distance of 500 ft, 10 times the distance in the city's ordinance - and the music is still audible. Now, I'm familiar with the concept of due diligence when looking for a new place to stay, and I did research this neighborhood before moving here. I was aware I would next to two parks, a school, and a baseball stadium. I have no problem with the noise from the ball games, school etc. as it's unavoidable but the pool music is not. Further, I couldn't have conceived of a scenario where I would regularly be subjected to loud music from a city ran facility, in violation of their own noise ordinance. Again, I'm giving the city the benefit of the doubt, in good faith, and assuming they're unaware of this. I feel a lot of it has to do with the placement of whatever speaker(s) the music is played over. Thus, a possible solution would be to arrange the speakers so they face away from the complexes on the other side of the street. They could still face the pool, and the hill/elementary chool on the other side of the pool would largely blunt the music from traveling to the residences on Augusta. I'm really hoping to hear back from someone with the city in regards to this.

Many schools provide lessons; 5 Cities provides an elite aquatic foundation. Watching the new ownership evolve this program has been incredible. They've managed to blend high-level technical instruction with a "safety-first" mentality that is unmatched on the Central Coast. The themed classes are brilliant--they keep my kids engaged while secretly building life-saving habits into every drill. The fact that we travel 25 minutes past other options to get here should tell you everything you need to know. My 5-year-old's progress has exceeded every expectation I had as a professional. With an indoor pool for year-round training and a staff that is clearly vetted for both skill and safety, this is the gold standard. Stop looking at other schools. This is the one.

Excellent indoor swimming classes and location! Super friendly and amazing instructors!…read more We wanted to send our toddler to swimming school for a little while now. However, with the weather on the central coast, we didn't want to send him to an outdoor swimming school. I was so excited when I came across an ad on instagram from 5 Cities Swim School. The indoor heated pool was definitely the determination factor for us. The clean facility and amazing instructors sealed the deal! Nick reached out to me quickly almost as soon as I filled out the information online. I was a little disappointed to find out they didn't have the exact day and time for the class that I was hoping to get our kid in. However, I realized after the 1st week, unless you want your kiddo to have the same instructor every week, it actually doesn't matter what class they're enrolled in. You can always mark them absence and easily request a makeup class for the day and time that work for you. With our crazy rotating schedules and our toddler's starting pre-K soon after he started coming here, we pretty much had a different class and instructor every week. Fortunately, all the instructors follow the same class routine, so our toddler still got to learn and progress quickly even tho he has never gone to the same class more than 2 times lol. The instructors to students ratio here is pretty high, which makes us feel at ease knowing our kid would be safe here. Even for the lowest level that requires at least 1 parent/adult to be in the water with the kiddo, the ratio is still only 1 to 6. I can't say enough good things about this place. If you don't live too far from here and want to look for a great swimming school for your child/children, I highly recommend 5 Cities Swim School!

Lots of people, with large extended families, living on site now. Gross. Just gross. The hot springs tub area was really dirty. Lots of full time residents living there using the facilities. Water was nice and hot just murky with hair, skin and who knows what floating around. Couldn't wait to shower off. I looked everywhere for the women's showers after my soak- no luck. The only showers I found were "For Disabled Only" so I kept looking and eventually asked at the front desk. They gave me a key to use the "For Disabled Only" ADA showers cause that's all they had for women. We camped overnight in our van $60. Camp toilets were porta potties. We didn't go back in the hot springs next day because they were soooo gross & dirty. Bummer, cause the place used to be better. Never fancy, but it was clean and a great place to soak in authentic hot sulfur-stinky spring water. Now it's just gross & very dirty. It's a heck no. Hard pass for me!!! Pros: Location of Avila Hot Springs is close to Avila Beach, Shell Beach, Pismo, San Luis Bay etc. Great Central Coast location. Girl at front desk was nice.

You are surrounding by palm trees in every direction, beautiful rolling green mountains, and the ocean is just a few minutes away! This is one of the best clubs I have ever visited. As soon as you walk in, everyone is so friendly and welcoming (it's almost unbelievable). There are over a dozen tennis and pickleball courts, multiple saunas, a large lap pool with a hot tub as well as a smaller leisure pool with another hot tub. There is a wonderful outdoor patio on the second level which overlooks the courts and pools and has fire pits and lots of seating. Inside you will find a cardio room, weight room, and another lounge area with a pool table and a large seating area with a big fireplace. They offer a full service spa where you can get massages, facials, pedicures/manicures, and hair cuts. Added bonus - if you schedule one of those services you get a free day pass to use all of the amenities at the club without being a member. Really can't get over how remarkable this place is and can't wait to go back ASAP!

I am so in love with this gym that after I graduated Cal Poly I keep paying for the membership. It is pretty comparable to other gyms in the area and totally worth it. The staff keep the areas clean and are always wiping down the machines. There are 3 main areas to work out in (treadmills, elliptical, bikes, weights, etc.). You can take all of the classes with your membership like yoga, spin, and more. The gym offers other amenities like a basketball court, racquetball courts, pools outside, and nice locker rooms with showers. Since there are so many things to do, there are usually a lot of people! The best time to go is really early in the morning (students are usually still sleeping). The only downside to the Rec Center is parking...if you do not have a student parking pass, it is extremely difficult to find parking. You either have to pay for a daily pass or roam the streets for free 2-hour parking. I wish the membership included a parking pass! Overall I love this gym and will continue to purchase a membership!
