Best recreation center in SLO. It opened up 2012 with student feedback, and it has everything you need for a good price. The rec center is included with student fees, and it's about $40-$50 for alumni/staff/faculty, which is a great price for what it offers and what other gyms don't offer/their prices. This rec center has 3 workout spaces with free weights and machines, an outdoor lap pool and leisure pool (includes whirlpool, basketball hoops in pool), 3 studios for classes that are included (hip hop cardio, Pilates, 6-pack abs, body pump, breakaway (form of spin), etc.), an indoor basketball court, volleyball courts, sand volleyball courts outside and BBQ pits. I love that I rarely ever wait for a machine or free weights, and I can save my spot for a class a day before. read more

This is the nicest gym in SLO. If you are a student or alumni you have the opportunity to get a membership. I am so in love with this gym that after I graduated Cal Poly I keep paying for the membership. It is pretty comparable to other gyms in the area and totally worth it. The staff keep the areas clean and are always wiping down the machines. There are 3 main areas to work out in (treadmills, elliptical, bikes, weights, etc.). You can take all of the classes with your membership like yoga, spin, and more. The gym offers other amenities like a basketball court, racquetball courts, pools outside, and nice locker rooms with showers. Since there are so many things to do, there are usually a lot of people! The best time to go is really early in the morning (students are usually still sleeping). The only downside to the Rec Center is parking...if you do not have a student parking pass, it is extremely difficult to find parking. You either have to pay for a daily pass or roam the streets for free 2-hour parking. I wish the membership included a parking pass! And that's just the inside folks. The outside sports a leisure pool, 3 sand volleyball courts, a 20-lane Olympic sized pool, and soon the barbecue pits will be available for BBQing at the Rec Center! Came here to represent my company for the Career Fair (GO MAXIM!!!) This is the first time I've been to a fair hosted at this location and I loved it! The fair itself was beautifully executed. Everything was very well organized and this place is huge! There was a large room for lunch and the restrooms were easy to find and clean. I love that the gym overlooks the walkway to the second floor. Really made me want to go work out. The only confusing thing was knowing where the shuttle was. I just walked. The campus is beautiful and worth seeing by foot. read more

The REC center is so nice for Cal Poly students. It's the biggest one on the west coast of the US and has a ton of stuff to do. There are three different areas for working out with all different performance levels, a 1/8 mile track that goes throughout the center, racquetball courts, yoga and workout rooms, basketball and volleyball courts (indoor and outdoor), lap pool, whirl pool, and a walk in rec pool. Dude, seriously, it's kind of hard to believe that this is on campus; but then seeing all the other students, let's you know that it really is! I don't even know where to begin with how awesome this place is and how it shouldn't even be a question in your mind whether or not you should go, making it part of your regular schedule. Let's start with the parking, since that's the first thing you encounter; yes, there is parking very close to the facility in front of and behind, both on campus and street, paid and free. This is obviously a plus. Next up, we have the staff. I don't know who's training these people, but whoever it is seems to be on their game. I've seen the variety of gym employees, who can be everything from super-freaky-excitedly-great to petty-catty-arrogant-dumpsters; and here, they're just chill, pleasant, helpful, team players. They're not going to smack you with a crazy-loud good morning at 6:00a.m. and they're also not going to lull about for 6 minutes while you wait for help at the desk. You won't be overwhelmed with being pushed all sorts of programs, classes, and information, but you also won't be dismissed with a "do you even lift, bro?" Clean. Yes, I know, hard to believe with a place this huge, but yes it is clean. This also partly due to everyone doing their part, meaning members cleaning up after themselves, but whatever the reason, the place is kept clean. Towel service is available and only a modest fee. So like, there's more than just your typical gym equipment and amenities; we're talking outdoor pool, sand volleyball, grass to lay-out on, foosball tables, a frickin rock-climbing wall, and mother-trucking canoes; what are the canoes even for?! Where can we use them? I don't know, but I do know that I saw canoes; all kinds of madness going on here. I'm surprised they don't take it back to high school, with a Sadie Hawkins dance or something. If you still pack-on the "freshman 15," having access to this place, you need to reevaluate your life choices. #betterlife read more

SERIOUSLY THE BEST GYM EVER. Probably the best building at Cal Poly. Well it is also the newest and someone donated million of dollars to make it amazing haha. I'm going to be sad when I won't have access to this gym anymore. Pros! 1. It got seatings on the first floor where you can watch tv and do your homework while you wait for your bf/gf to finish working out haha. 2. Basketball courts! Lots of it! 3. Indoor volleyball courts 4. Outdoor volleyball courts 5. Pools! 5. Tanning area! We do need that vitamin d and this is a perfect place to get some! 6. Lockers! 7. Showers! 8. Hair dryers! 9. Soap in the showers ! :) 10. Lots of machines! 11. Phone chargers on the treadmill machines! 12. TVS ON THE MACHINES!! Yup I love multitasking :). 13. Raquetball courts 14. Fitness classes! 15. Yoga mats, weights, jump ropes, pretty much all the work out equipments you need to get fit! :D I only have one con haha Cal poly got some fit people! Therefore the gym is likely to be crowded! Don't go between 5-7pm because that's when it gets really crowded. I love how this gym offers cool and fun fitness classes. It got Zumba, breakaway, body pump, Pilates, yoga, six pack abs, and more! My favorite is body pump because I'm a small girl that wants to build muscles :D. You guys should try it! My boyfriend sponsored me so we can both "gym it up". Monthly rates are absolutely reasonable, honestly better than the public gyms. You have so many things you can do, basketball courts, ping pong, pool, volleyball, racket ball, you name it. The locker rooms are spacious and clean, you have your lockers and showers and giant mirrors to get ready in front of if you're working out in the morning. So many different machines & different rooms, just in case you come at the prime workout hours. There's 3 studios - 1 being the cycling room, complete with a disco ball. There are so many classes offered, such as yoga, Pilates, H.I.I.T., body combat, and more. Check out the ASI website for more info about schedules. There are also some specialty classes offered, like martial arts. In the main building there's a huge basketball court, I think 3 different courts. There's also more in another part of the gym that's mostly used for volleyball courts. Upstairs are more basketball courts that can be converted to volleyball or badminton courts. There is also an indoor track, where one lap equals 1/8 of a mile. The MAC is a huge room that is used for a multi-purpose area, either for concerts or intramurals (dodgeball). On the lower floor are 3 or 4 racquetball courts & you can rent equipment from the front desk. Outside are 2 huge pools: a lap pool & leisure pool. The lap pool has I think 10 lanes, with the first couple of lanes bein handicap accessible. They also have a variety of swim aerobic classes that you can check out on the website as well. On the schedule it also tells you when the pools are open/closed & they will always have a lifeguard on duty if it's open - rain or shine. There is also equipment provided near the locker rooms for swimming, such as waist flotations, footboard, & leg floats. The leisure pool has basketball courts where you can rent water balls from the front desk. It's relatively shallow, I think 3-5 feet and no diving is allowed. There's a part where it's a circle & is just a really cool place to hangout & make whirlpools. Outside are 3 outdoor sand volleyball courts. There are also lots of seating & pool benches where you can tan. If all are taken, there is some space on the grass where you can lay out. There are also bathrooms outside so you don't have to go inside. The locker rooms are seriously awesome. Located on the bottom floor, there are many bathroom stalls & is very clean. There are many lockers provided & with different sizes, but remember to bring a lock as there are some scheming people that can steal your belongings. There's a scale in case you want to do a before/after. There are 2 bathing suit dryers that are great if you want to get a quick swim before class. read more

Great facility. Totally organized, with clean and new machines. Not to mention, every elliptical and treadmill has its own TV! I loved coming here after class, just in time to watch a good movie while attached to a treadmill and casually burning calories. It's new, clean, has everything I need (treadmills, weights, studios, mats) and it probably has everything you'll need to! Wanna play basketball? It's got courts. Want to swim or tan? You can do that too. Feel like playing foosball? It's surprisingly got that too. Lockers, showers, and hairdryers? Yup. Plus a variety of classes you can take. Tip #1: If you want to use the studio for free use, make sure you check the class schedule beforehand. During some of the busy times of the day, both studios 2 and 3 will have classes going on and you won't be able to use either one for exercising/stretching/dancing. Tip #2: Don't forget to a bring a lock to keep your stuff safe! Sigh, I'm gonna be sad when I graduate and can't use this beautiful Rec Center anymore. read more

Pretty much the closest experience to a country club I will get in the foreseeable future. You definitely get what you pay for here. I really haven't personally taken any of the exercise classes, but I hear they are worth going, if you are into that kind of thing. I mainly stick to cardio and lifting, and that is enough for me. Rude!! My husband and I are both alumni and showed up with our two year old and my dad who is a current professor to use the pool and they said no kids allowed, even tho it's still summer and literally nobody is here. So lame - who says no to a little girl in a swimsuit!!! :( :( read more

Attended our first women's basketball game at Mott's gym. Great space. Everyone was friendly. Cal Poly employees were very nice and helpful. Court was clean as well as bleachers. Spirit was high and the band rocked the game. We would definitely go back again. read more

this place is huge. 3 workout rooms, numerous racquetball, basketball, dodgeball courts, a rock climbing wall, 2 pools, ping pong tables, seating area, foosball tables, 3 studio rooms, it's insane. but they have sooo many rules. no chalk, no certain type of shirts, bags, etc. it's super annoying how you can't stretch without shoes...like how come the yoga class gets to go barefoot on all the mats but i can't stretch without shoes?? also, you are not allowed to use anything in the studio rooms; it's only for classes. but i understand the enforcement of these rules is what makes this place so good. but come on...lemme stretch without shoes haha. read more

Honestly, what will I do without the Rec Center after I graduate? This gym is hands down the nicest gym I have ever seen. Everything is so nice and new. You rarely have to wait to use any of the equipment, except the classes sometimes have long lines. I love the classes! The instructors are great and it hurts so good the next day! 6 Pack Abs, Body Combat, and Butts & Guts are my faves. And don't forget about the awesome pool area! Gonna miss this place after June :( read more
