This boutique hotel is all that it is and more. We were welcomed by drinks (cappuccino for me), while others had champagne. Our rooms weren't ready yet, so they stored our luggage and went exploring. We had two rooms and thankfully they were right next to each other. The rooms were cute and quaint, though a bit small. The design and decor were simple, but it works. Although, the bathroom/shower were all tinted glass and felt a bit weird using the toilet while my partner is showering. I'd wish they had a few more hooks for towels and robes. I do have to say, their toiletries are top notch! I loved the scent of the wash and the lotion. They even offered a lavender spray mist for bed time. Complimentary breakfast for us and it was in this cute indoor/outdoor courtyard. They had a made-to-order menu and then there is a buffet of pastries, fruits, and lighter breakfast items. The service was impeccable and always at your service, very attentive. I used the wellness area a few times for the sauna and steam room. The gym is quite small with a bike, some weights, and perhaps a treadmill? I didn't use it, so I don't remember. The spa room turns on in the evening at 1600hours, unless you ask them to turn it on at a specific time. Their sauna and steam room works extremely well, it's super hot! I had to cool off in the jacuzzi! **Note: EU jacuzzi are cooler, more like warm, than US versions. Overall, loved that we stayed here and had a great time. Also, the train station is about 7 min walk from the hotel!

The bathroom has a very high bath tub and narrow. Hard to get in and uncomfortable to stand. The tv froze all the time Breakfast was decent Staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. another thing that really surprised me is that it only has one emergency stairs. I was at room 516, at the other end of the hallway, so if there was an emergency I would have to go accross the whole hallway to reach the emergency exit . He was on the phone with the luggage delivery people almost every hour it seemed trying to track down our bags. The housekeeping staff was equally customer oriented. I never expected them to wash our coffee cups and do our dishes (this is a full suite hotel with kitchen in the room) but every day housekeeping washed and placed our china cups we brought with us on the table and did the dishes. They even took the dishes out of the dishwasher we were going to run later in the day and washed them. Every staff member was wonderful, the hotel was clean and nice and the location was an easy walking distance to most everything. The only drawback was the small elevator that was sometimes very busy and only held 4 people, no luggage but it is the age of the building so and fits the charm of the hotel.

I went to sit on the couch and saw what was either blood or maybe nailpolish? We grabbed our bags, got a refund from Expedia and hightailed it out of there. We also realized that this location is one street over from the red light district, so if this is what you're looking for maybe it's ok. Not on our agenda.

The hotel is located in Prague 5, within walking distance of Old Town. It's very close to Mala Stranna and there's a tram stop just a few minutes away. The building itself is old, but is tastefully decorated and our dwelling bathroom had been completely remodeled. Such was the case when I just traveled to Prague for a glorious week and stayed at the Hotel Hastal in the Old Town. What a beautiful city Prague is. Besides that it is clean and safe and welcoming and affordable, I was blown away by how many old buildings are still intact. All you have to do is look up, and each building has some glorious architecture at the top. Maybe a statue, maybe an unusual shape, maybe a glorious terrace. What really blew me away was that the Jewish quarter is still intact. Hitler's plan was to demolish and eliminate the Jewish people and turn Prague into a kind of museum. This is where Jews lived. This is where Jews prayed. This is what a Jew looked like. This is what a Jew wore. Thank God his sick plan did not take effect and even with the devastation of the Jewish Community throughout Europe, Prague holds incredible Judaica from all the synagogues Hitler ravaged during World War II and the synagogues in Prague are still intact. Can you imagine being able to walk into a synagogue that's 500 years old. It was an amazing experience for me as a Jew! I decided to stay at Hotel Hastal in the Old Town. It was just what the doctor ordered. Everything was in walking distance. I never had to take a bus or a train. I just simply walked to everything and I loved it. It justified my funnel cake filled with ice cream!! The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous and so old-fashioned and filled with incredible old world charm. The entrance, the staircase, the elevator, the reception area, the outside garden, the library, the room and the bar that served as our breakfast space in the morning. All these spaces are beautifully decorated with the original woodwork and artistry of its creators. The reception staff was incredibly helpful and guided me in the right direction always as far as where to eat and where to go and how to get there. The breakfast buffet was gorgeous. I wish I ate more in the morning because there was so many options. Fruits and vegetables and yogurt and eggs and cheese and coffee and tea and the list goes on and on. I especially loved their fresh warm bread with a good crust. Every morning I I loved the eating that bread with a cup of coffee... followed by everything else! LOL! Sometimes after a long day of walking I enjoyed a complimentary cup of hot tea and sitting in the library and taking it all in. So beautiful. Sometimes I woke up early in the morning and loved being able to run downstairs and get a cup of coffee even before breakfast officially began. They even provided some brandy for me in my room. I wish I drank! I could go on and on, but this place is really a gem. I thought the price was quite reasonable for what you got and for the quality of the experience. It was so conveniently located that quite often I would sightsee for a couple of hours, come back to my room to regroup and head out again. Makes a big difference when you're 72! I would have to put Prague near the top of my list of European cities I have visited. In general. I like Eastern Europe much more than Western Europe. It reminds me a lot of how I envisioned my grandparents lived before they emigrated to the United States. Do yourself a favor and go take a vacation to Prague. The breakfast was better than most hotel breakfasts. The hotel was located on a quiet street that isn't swarmed with noisy tourists. Also, the hotel was within two blocks of at least three excellent restaurants, and a short walk to the historic city center. It's also about a 15-minute walk from the train station. I'm told that air-conditioning is an issue with some Prague hotels -- I was there during cooler weather, so I can't comment on that. If I return to Prague, I will hope to stay again at Hotel Maximilian.
