I went to Art Underfoot looking for 2 oriental carpets for a bedroom and family room. I was greeted warmly and spent the next hour looking at their beautiful carpets. It truly is like going to an art gallery! The carpets are outstanding quality and range from antique to modern. The Nasseri's were so helpful and patient as I made a decision. Great service, fair prices, and very nice job. I wanted to get our oriental carpet cleaned and repaired, and so I got some prices from several different places. Nabi was right in line with the others on price, though there was another place that would have been cheaper had we been willing to deliver the rug to their plant. We didn't really want to do that, so that discount was immaterial. Nabi worked with me on scheduling a pickup that was very convenient. The two guys who showed up were friendly and professional, and gave me some good information about how much the repairs to the torn fringe corners would be. He noticed we had no pad under the rug, and had no trouble talking me into buying a rug pad -- thankfully, I had already done research on rug pads, and knew the one he was offering me was high quality and an excellent price. Easy sale :-) The cleaning took a little less than a week, and the repair took only a few days. For the return of the rug, once again it was at my convenience. The friendly folks who brought back the rug placed the pad and the carpet where I wanted them, and were pleased that we were pleased. I was beginning to think that there weren't any places left that took pride in their work and were good to their customers. After checking out several options, I found Mr. Nabi Nasseri's Art Underfoot on King Street in Old Town Alexandria. He did a wonderful job restoring our rug to its original beauty. We have had several carpets cleaned at this place and a small silk rug repaired by replacing the end fringe and fixing some cuts on the edges resulting from dried out threads. Not only did they do beautiful work on all of our rugs, they went to the extra trouble of conditioning the silk rug to help prevent tearing in the future. The rug is 30 years old, so time had taken its toll, but it looks like new now. We would definitely use this place again for repairs and cleaning. We were also impressed with the inventory available for purchase. They had a wide range of quality and pricing to suit every budget. As a rug collector I have been to most of the Oriental rug businesses in the Washington area. Some are outrageous, others are deceitful. Art Underfoot, on the other hand, has quality oriental carpets, new and antique, and deals with integrity. As I have, you can purchase a heirloom carpet at a fair price and interact with a family which cares about their customers and their merchandice. We have been working with Nabi Nasseri at Art Underfoot for about 20 years now. He and his wife are very knowledgable, reputable and honest when selling, cleaning or repairing the many oriental rugs we have collected during our years in the Foreign Service. We have also bought several carpets from Nabi and he has quite a vast and rare collection of rugs to choose from. His costs for cleaning and repair are several times less expensive than his competitors and I know he will take great care of our rugs- even better than we have. In fact, he bought me a special vacume cleaner to use on them as the one we were using was causing more wear and tear on the rugs. He didn't even charge me for the vacume as he is invested in taking good care of his rugs as well as his clients. Do not service your rugs at this store. This shop is not capable of cleaning rugs without destroying them. I had a rug cleaned there -- one side was dirtier than when it went in, and on the other side, the color bled. I will not use them again. read more
