You'll get to see many of the government offices as well as go up in the clock tower and down in the basement. For the engineering nerds, you can admire how the building is reinforced for earthquakes. You can also walk in the tunnel underground where Ted Bundy was escorted from jail.

Spent some time in Temple Square when I was in town this week for a conference…read more I learned about the Restoration from statues on the grounds, entered the tabernacle to view the massive organ inside, and was impressed by the architecture of both the Assembly Hall and the Temple, which is currently closed for restorations till April 2027, after which it will be open to the general public for 6 months. Will be back, as I wasn't able to attend the noon choir during this trip.

It occupies five city blocks in downtown Salt Lake City with historic sites, exhibits, gardens, monuments and statues. The highlight of our visit was seeing the beautiful Tabernacle, an engineering marvel that needs no microphones. Its acoustic qualities are so perfect that you can literally hear a pin drop. Oh yeah, our tour guides demonstrated that amazing quality for us. Our guides were young Mormon sisters who walked us through the grounds and gardens and talked about the four statues spread around the property. Without a doubt, this is a "must see" if you ever visit Salt Lake City.

Decorated for Christmas made the one hour tour even more special. The tour normally includes just the main floor with the parlor, study, dining room, kitchen and pantry. But right now they are also taking guests up the grand staircase to the ballroom. The original art is fabulous. The wood work, plaster work, murals, all gorgeous. The history shared about the Kearns family and past governors was interesting. And the Christmas decorations were the icing in the cake. Take advantage of this free tour which I believe is offered in the summer and part of November and December. Park in the free lot off of H Street and they will let you enter the East gate right on the hour.

The Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Temple Square in Salt Lake City is worth stepping into, even…read moreif just for a few quiet minutes. The lobby is absolutely spectacular and feels like it belongs to another era, with elegant details that immediately catch your eye. There isn't a whole lot to see or do throughout the rest of the building, but that almost adds to its calm atmosphere. I appreciated being able to warm up, slow down, and enjoy the peaceful, serene setting for a bit. It's a simple stop, but a pleasant one that offers a nice pause from the cold and the bustle outside.

Tip: The original Hotel Utah was built in 1911 The lobby of this building has impressive marble columns and a sweeping staircase which contribute to a striking, majestic look and feel.  The building still has quite a lot of character.  The middle floors contain offices, and downstairs there a genealogy research library where visitors can look up facts about their ancestors.

Near the flagpole, you'll find this sculpture of a boy and girl. They are standing on opposite sides of a podium that holds the Preamble to the Constitution. The young lady is holding the Constitution with both hands and the young man is pointing to the flagpole with his right hand. The podium is engraved with: "Erected as a tribute to our Nation's constitution and flag by the school children of Salt Lake City. A.D. 1936-37"

On Monday through Friday they offer guided tours on the hour. Tours last appointment 45 minutes. If not interested in a guided tour, you can mill around the Capitol on your own. And if you are just lucky the Capitol may be active if the representatives or senators are in session. If in session, you can watch from the gallery. Worth a visit to just see the Capitol architecture and paintings inside.

This is the temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. It's 253,015 sq ft & is the largest Latter-day Saint temple by floor area. It was dedicated in 1893, it is the 6thtemple completed by the church, requiring 40 years to complete, and the fourth temple built. The temple was closed in December 2019 for remodelling & seismic renovations as the temple since on a fault & is prone to earthquakes. It is scheduled to reopen in 2026.

We received Books of Mormon and our guides asked us many engaging questions, including what our favorite part about Jesus is. I appreciated their welcoming attitude, as I was with my girlfriend (lesbians). Going into it we were unsure what to expect but we had an amazing experience.
