I am a local piano teacher, and it so wonderful that the Sandy Public Library offers a free place for piano teachers and students to have a piano recital. The staff are so friendly and helpful to the community and I am so grateful that students have more opportunities to perform and share their talents at the public library. In particular, Andrea Wilkinson, who is the director for the children's programs, was so welcoming and friendly to us at our Christmas recital this week! Best library around! Aside from excellent collections of books (the sci-fi, travel and youth collections are especially good), the Sandy Library is really like s a community center versus just a library these days. One can check out telescopes, use 3D printers, get personal meeting rooms and more. The library programa are constant and extremely well put together, catering to kids (reading clubs, parties) to teens (D&D, cosplay) to adults (book clubs, art exhibits). On top of all this, it's beautifully decorated! Only occasional problems are those stemming from people bringing their cell phone conversations into the library and talking out loud. read more

Since Covid, they only have two rows of computers. No matter what time of day or night you go, all the computers are taken by kids and teens just playing games on them. Annoying for those of us who need to use the computer. Eastmont junior high is right across the street, so when they get out of school, all the teens go there. My most recent visit, I had teens trying to steal my computer when I'd get up to print. I had teens hovering around me impatiently waiting for me to get off the computer. The librarian standing over there to keep an eye on the teens had to tell them to stop hovering over people. She also apologized to me telling me this is a bad time to try and use the computers. Don't go there when Eastmont gets out of school. It was an annoying nightmare. read more

I miss the library pretty bad right now. It's the simple things you miss during quarantine, and the library is one of them. The smell of the books, the clackity clack of keyboards, and the shuffle of little kids. I miss it a lot, but figured this would be a good chance for an update. Sandy Library falls to number three in my ranking--not by preference, simply by convenience. If I want a book but don't want to wait for it, I will go as far as Sandy to pick it up. But most of the time I just place a hold and the kind inter-library shuttle people pick it up. I'm also learning to appreciate the Libby and Overdrive apps where tons of materials are available online. I've listened to some really fun audiobooks this way, and right now when I can't hold the books in person, it's a nice substitute. Plus they have a lot of movies you can stream. They are all in the "direct-to-video" family of quality, but sometimes you get lucky and find a really good one. This is one of the larger libraries in the system, so selection is better here. Plus there are quiet study rooms. Having recently been to a brand new library in the SLC system, I can say that they built this one for function over form, but it's still a great place to visit... when not under quarantine. read more

We have made the library a part of our family fun. It's conveniently located in Sandy and the staff is informative and helpful. I'm amazed by the selection of media they have and they have almost every topic you can imagine. The children's area is filled with games, stories, and entertainment. Enjoy! read more

The study room was unbearable warm. The thermostat in the room said it was 77°. The room next door had a piano which you could hear, so not terribly quiet. Other than that, the library was spacious and clean. read more

The Sandy Library Pros: Self checkout Atmosphere is good Building is clean Large inventory of books Checkout multiple books at once (I've checked out 12 at one time) Convenient, Fast, & Easy book check-in by the outside doors allows you to slide your books through this automated slot any hour of the day instead of the big bins- for fast returns Air conditioning Mobile app makes renewing books super easy! You just click a button! (Must have, wish I knee about this sooner) Cons: Ridiculous late fee policy. It's crazy how much the library fines you when your book is one day late [even for books that aren't on hold or in any demand] Too many loud, obnoxious kids/teenagers in the study area making noise and messing around. Makes it incredibly hard to study. There's specific places to be loud. I mean it's a library, SHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I now take a 15 minute commute to Salt Lake Community College (both ways) so I can study peacefully. Rather than a 5 minute drive up the street. read more

I just read on the Sandy Library website that this is the largest and busiest location in the Salt Lake County Library System. But don't let that keep you from stopping in. I've never been bothered by the crowds here. One of my favorite things about the Salt Lake County Library system is the inter-library loan program. If Sandy doesn't have what you're looking for, they'll get it for you--from any other SLCO library in the valley, and leave it waiting for you on the hold shelves. And you can manage all of your holds, checkouts, and renewals online, which makes it so convenient. Another perk is the self-checkout scanners. There are plenty of stations, so wait-time is minimal. The kids and teen sections have recently been remodeled, and they look really good. There are also meeting rooms available to reserve. One small, one large. They also have computers and a study room, but I haven't used those amenities. All in all--a great library. read more

Poor help with accounts. Employees who don't communicate and each one tells you different information every time you have a question. My son lost a book and I was told I could wait to pay for it and maybe it will turn up. We did end up finding it and turned it in only to still be charged $40 for it. read more

far from my favorite library. not the best research librarians. I tried to research the underbelly of Joseph smith and Brigham young. They were biased in the information they sent my way. Also i was taken aback by how i thought i was treated , not very helpful read more
