These paint and sip places have been a trend the past few years. BYOB and go somewhere else to try and paint on a canvas? Yup, signed up for a date night. It was nice, we did a little cheese platter and brought wine and the instructors and staff were really helpful during the whole process. The place definitely makes the experience. Also you can look ahead on calendars to make sure you choose a date that you like the portrait. There are dedicated couple nights but we ended up choosing a painting that we liked. You come with yourself and your snacks/wine and they provide everything else! It's super easy and really fun. I would definitely recommend it to try it out. My mom was in town visiting and I was trying to think of things to do with her. She had been an avid painter years ago and I figured this would be a good way to spend the day with her and do something she enjoys! We signed up for a Sunday brunch class! I unfortunately cannot remember our instructors name (she was super sweet with teal hair) but we had a great time! They studio for brunch classes sets out bagels and orange juice but I arrived with some prosecco and peach nectar for some bellinis ;) Everything you need is already set up - your canvas, brushes and paint so all you have to do is grab an apron and be ready to paint! However, me being somewhat of a perfectionist found that I really wished I had some smaller brushes that what we were giving for some detailing, but that is just me. The instructor did a great job of explaining what she was going, giving tips and going around and helping anyone who need it. She made everyone feel like they were Van Gogh or Monet and there was no wrong or right way to do it. I will say that the set up of the class is maybe not the best, you are in long tables with 4 canvases set up on each side, so if you are sitting toward the back, furthest away from the instructor it may be difficult to see, not just distance wise, but you have other people's canvases and heads in your way. Definitely come early - the studio is open 30 minutes before class. I arrived 15 minutes and was the first one there, so I made sure my mom had a great seat in front of the instructor. Overall a great first paint and sip experience and I would love to come back again and paint more! read more

We were a little intimated by the painting at first, but she really broke it down into simple steps and made it seem easy!! She's super funny and sweet and I was digging her playlist. I really hate writing bad reviews, especially if I don't think it's completely the fault of the business, but I had such a negative experience at my second paint night at Artevino. I remember being frustrated the first time I was here because I thought the purple paint was NOT opaque. It's such a minor thing, but I was really frustrated with the purple paint more this time because we were painting a sunset. Obviously, this can be remedied by mixing your own purple with red and blue, but when you're given the smallest piece of palette paper, there's just not a lot of room to mix. Speaking of not having a lot of room, these tables are absurdly packed together. The last time I was here, my friend and I had a table to ourselves so there was a lot more room to sprawl out our stuff. This time, I was sitting in the seats in the back row. I didn't even want to get up to go the bathroom because there was literally no room to get up without bumping into someone or something. On top of that, I got when I was seated behind a large group of noisy girls who decided to pregame at a wine and paint night. These very tightly packed aisles do not fare well with drunken stupors. By this point, I'm already frustrated because I felt cramped. What really ended up getting on my nerves were the extremely noisy drunk girls I sat next to. I don't know how else to say this, but they were out of control. They were so loud to the point I came home with a ringing in my ears. They were being shushed by other people, so clearly I wasn't the only person to find them extremely obnoxious and disruptive. Their behavior was straight up disrespectful to the instructor who seemed nice and was trying to do her job and to the other people in the class who came here to paint and have fun. I ended up not being able to hear the instructor for the second half of class and doing my own thing, which is fine but I would have liked to be able to listen to the teacher and actually follow along. I feel like this situation shouldn't even have happened. This shouldn't be an issue for what's essentially a painting class for adults. However, I feel like the instructor and assistant didn't do much to control the situation. I would argue the teacher's assistant even contributed to the noise because he spent a lot of time talking to them, in comparison to the amount of time I saw him talking to everyone else. I felt like he kind of egged them on, causing them to be louder and rowdier. So I feel poorly writing this long, negative review of Artevino because I still don't think it's completely their fault. It's not their job to tell grown people to behave during class. It's not even completely their fault the purple paint stinks and the tables are WAY too close together. Yet I still left the studio extremely irritated with a painting I didn't even like and could have easily done at home and better. read more

My paint supplies were shipped to me overnight and it gave me something different to do while practicing social distancing. The instructor was great and went slow to allow us to keep up. The best part was seeing the mixed colors and canvas so clearly, whereas depending on where you sit in the studio this was somewhat difficult for me. Went to my first ever "Paint n Sip" with my GF on 1/19/18 for her birthday. We had an AMAZING time! Heather did a great job instructing the class on how to paint the "Baby It's Cold Outside" drawing. We were given an ample amount of paint and supplies along with the comforting setting that allowed us to enjoy ourselves. It was nice to go in not being great painters and leaving with artwork we would never believe we could do. This is a wonderful studio. It's very clean and it has an art gallery feel. The instructors Alexis, Olivia and Craig were amazing: so knowledgeable, fun, helpful and kind. Went here for my birthday with 7 coworkers. Alan and Ellen were our paint instructors. They were super helpful and nice. Alan did a great job of explaining everything and made it easy for everyone to understand how to do it. The place itself is very cute, love all the interesting paintings around the walls. You can even buy some paintings up front by the door. The only thing that was a little bummer was because of the amount of people in the class, space was VERY tight. One of my coworkers accidentally moved her painting which bumped into the persons behind her which got her a nasty look. Space is very tight. She was very patient, friendly, and great teacher. Her music playlist was fabulous too!!! Took the class by myself to see how it was, now I will invite people with me!! I like that there is a counter space for foods/drinks that people bring, along with a wine chiller and free cups for customer use. It was a most stress free atmosphere and our instructor was so amazing. Make sure you ask for Alice when you go! She was super nice and talented. Loved the topic painting 'Painting the Masters': Tree Blossoms (?) by Van Gogh. My art is not up to his ability but our 'Artist-in-Residence' for the evening was fun, knowledgeable, and created confidence in our own ability to CREATE our personal 'Van Gogh'. I have trouble with attention span (due to car accident brain injury) so have never done a 3 hour class before. Also, it didn't finish until 10 p.m. (as scheduled). By 9:15 my brain was exhausted. Our artist calmly quelled an (almost) riot on hearing there was more outlining to do and kept us on track. Her encouragement and 'asked for' honest appraisal of my progress gave me just what I needed to complete my best painting ever. This was my 12th painting including 3 'Paint Your Pet' (not recommended for beginners!) sessions. I have been happiest with this one. I painted ice skating penguins and the Grinch at family painting sessions, too. If you have no experience with acrylics, start with a family paint - no kids required. I've been to both Arte Vino Cranford (easier parking a block away) and Arte Vino Metuchen (parking is not as easy but it's closer to home). Both studios have welcoming artists that have been very fun to work with. Some artists take more pictures while you're working than others so ASK if you want more. I bring my own brushes because I find I get better results but it is not necessary. Just ask if you can choose a different brush if the one you have is not to your liking. Both studios are accommodating in whatever way possible. Let them know what you'll need on the registration sheet. (I'm a lefty so need a bit extra room AND I have vision problems in one eye so must be sitting facing and near the painting/artist). What a GREAT evening it was. Such a fun girls night out to celebrate several of our birthdays! Loved that you could bring your own wine & food. Studio had cups, plates, bottle openers which was great. Set-up for our group was perfect- we were all at the same table and paint, pencils were ready to go. The woman heading our class was very good overall - showed us each step with clear instructions then did it at the front so we could watch. I wish she'd walked around a bit more to give individual attention but it was a full class and really it was less about perfecting the painting and more about having a good time.
