Personal chef services specializing in small private events such as holiday parties, dinner parties, cocktail parties, romantic dinners for two, and business events. From start to finish I believe that a client should be given service that is as unique as they are. I do not offer a "standardized" menu that offers the same 7 dishes that everyone has to pick from. Your menu is created with you in mind and based upon your event, guests, and dietary needs. Prices are all inclusive and include groceries, hourly rate for in home preparation, cleanup and any serving pieces required. As a chef, I specialize in classic French and authentic Italian as well as Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine. In the 14 years I have been a chef/personal chef I have become a master at the art and skill of throwing a swanky EFFORTLESS dinner or cocktail event. Looking for something different? I also offer a "Chef's Tasting" menu which with encompass 8-10 micro courses giving the diner a wide range of tastes and delights, just as you would get in a Chicago 5 star restaurant.

The entire experience was pleasant and easy to navigate too. I filled out a form with options of what I wanted, the number of people, day, time, location and form of delivery method. I received a call same day to go over the quote and was very happy with the pricing. The day prior I also received a call to confirm my order. On delivery day the company was prompt arriving a few minutes early and everything was fresh and hot too. We had the chicken, brisket, mac and cheese, pasta salad no pepperoni, green beans, and brownies. Everything was so delicious and it came with bread rolls too. The bbq sauces we had were amazing too although I don't remember which sauces. I will highly recommend them for your catering events and plan to use the again.

William knows his way around an industrial kitchen, he found the warmer and stored our extra trays to keep them warm.  All the trays were labeled perfectly so that we could easily replace the covers.  We had enough food left over to donate to the community center where our event was held.  When William called to follow up after the weekend, he was happy to hear that we'd done so, his business also donates food.  If you have an event in the Quad Cities and you're seeking good BBQ and southern comfort food, I recommend Strickly Southern Catering.  Without a doubt, 5-Stars!

What can I say about this place? I arranged to use Kapp's for my wedding reception, and was sorely…read moredisappointed. Where to begin? Every time we called to discuss our plans, we were told that someone else had made changes to our order, so we had to make it clear to them that we were the ones paying for our wedding, and that no one else was authorized to make decisions but us. There were issues with the menu, linen colors, and a coupe other things. You shouldn't have to keep reminding a business that they hold their contract with YOU, despite the requests or preferences of anyone else. Every single time. It was made even more frustrating for the fact that the business was very slow to return phone calls, (about 2 days each time) and they only had a "MySpace" page instead of a website. The day before my wedding reception, I arrived to set up and was shocked to discover that the room smelled heavily of mold and mildew. Not a faint odor, but as if the carpet or walls had severe water damage. You know that smell... No excuse, no explanation by the owner who greeted me there. I ended up spraying nearly an entire bottle of Fabreeze inside just to help tone down the nauseating stench. I was equally let down by the food- we ordered the chicken Marsala and some other beef dish, and they were terrible. I've had worse, far worse, but we were paying good money for our guests to have a buffet-style meal, and even though I hadn't eaten all day, I couldn't even finish my plate. The set-up was very inconvenient, as well. The head table is placed on the dance floor, so after the meal is through, that table is broken down and you no longer have a place to sit. I was told that I should just sit anywhere I wanted (one of my guests chairs?) because that was the way it had to be. There were also large support columns throughout the room, and some of the tables were jammed behind them. Another frustration was the "smoking area" on the back patio. There is a back door to the place located just behind a row of tables, and they kept that door open the entire time, so the smoke permeated the room. They insisted it remain open, despite my quiet request. It was awful. I found it very distasteful that the door was open when I was trying to enjoy my dinner. Also, someone allegedly snuck in liquor at some point, (we bought several kegs from the venue) and the owner threatened to call the cops. There I was trying to enjoy my wedding reception, when all of a sudden I had people directly in my face screaming at me to do something! I had no idea what was going on at all, and it was very distressing. Even worse, there was a huge altercation between his daughter's boyfriend and one of my guests... in front of everyone. (Thankfully, this happened after my husband and I had already left the site...I'd have called the cops) I have no idea why they were even there, but they had no business acting so childish. I later learned it was a jealous boyfriend of hers that couldn't keep his attitude in check. I might have been able to forgive the poor food and even the problems with the venue, but the way the owner and his kid behaved was absolutely unprofessional. To this day I am still mortified by what went on at my wedding reception. It's difficult to look back fondly on that evening when that family made such a horrible display.

I recognize they are operating in a different environment, especially being over two hours away from the competition found in Chicago. In any case, I found myself hungry in Rock Falls, so I stopped in at La Familia. I had the opportunity to try a carnitas taco, an al pastor taco, and a tamale. I also ordered an horchata to drink. The food was a mixed bag, but with some notable high points. The highlight of the meal was the tamale. The exterior was soft and flavorful, and the interior was appropriately meaty with a good, mild flavor. I believe this was my first experience with a tamale, and it was an enjoyable one at that. For the tacos, I appreciated that the proteins, onion, and cilantro were all in balance and that they didn't skimp on the meat. I am a traditionalist and asked for my tacos with just onion and cilantro, rather than their standard of lettuce, tomato, and cheese. While the meat had a mild flavor and wasn't completely bland, it needed something more to stand on its own. To be fair, there is salsa, lime, and two varieties of El Yucateco hot sauce available. However, being the purist I am, it is my belief that food should be able to stand alone without condiments. That said, with these tacos, it felt like something was lacking--perhaps sauce, crema, or pineapple with the al pastor. I'd also like to call out the complimentary chips and salsa offered at the beginning of the meal. I loved that the salsa was served in a little spouted container and that the tortilla chips were clearly homemade. They were a bit unusual, with layers flaking off (not a bad thing, just not often seen in restaurants). I also liked that they had a little bit of salt... far too many places skip that, and how can you skip the salt? My horchata was an absolute delight with great flavor. It was a tad sweet for my taste, but that's more a matter of personal preference than a technical issue. The service was a major highlight. It was very kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. The staff was also quick and efficient. Final Verdict: La Familia is very solid and respectable as a family-run, home-cooking-style restaurant. While to be 100% honest it doesn't hold a candle to some of the things you might find in downtown Chicago, Pilsen, or Cicero, that isn't the expectation. With this in mind, it does its job well. While I'm not going to come all the way back to Rock Falls just to eat here, when I find myself in town, I can't say I would be totally against it.
