YUM! I have eaten at the Dixon location before, and hoped this one would be as good. It was. A hint was the line of cars in the drive through. I walked in and ordered a Number 8 sandwich, which has ham, pepperoni and mozzarella cheese, along with their usual toppings. A bag of chips (Salt and Vinegar) and a drink, and I was done for less than $10.00. I got the sub sandwich, not the round one. It was well-made, tasted great, and was filling. The server who rang me up was polite and helpful. No issues or worries. I didn't smell anything like cannabis and since I work in a regulated industry, I definitely know what those signs look like. All the charming energy you want from a family-owned business! Arthur's branding is very on point = classic diner vibes with a clean, modern polish. The interior of the restaurant was extremely clean. Currently you can go inside to order food for carry-out, but there's also a drive-thru to help even further with safety and social distancing. I ordered one of their stuffed potatoes, which are big baked potatoes pre-loaded with your choice of toppings. The steamed vegetables in #27 tasted very fresh and it was more filling than I expected. Me and the boyfriend took a day trip out to the Dixon area and always have heard such great things about Arthur's! We finally decided to see what the fuss was about! Overall great visit, lots of space to sit down. The menu has some options. They have soups, sandwiches, salads, open a salad bar, dessert, potato salad, chips, and fountain drinks. I tried their 4 inch sandwich, Italian cuts, with all the works. It was nice and savory, the bread was extremely soft. The dressing was not overpowering and everything tasted nice and fresh. The food is OK. It's the better of the fast food out here. The sandwiches are alright. The work of art is the best one. The baked potatoes are descent. The sides..well, they are the worst thing about this place. The potato salad is bland, and it tastes like potato mixed with mayo only. The mac and cheese is a watery cheese sauce with pasta, and the potato soup was broken and watery as well. The frozen yogurt is pretty good. It looks like they make their own waffle cones in-house. The food is good, not happy about being charged 39 cents twice because we purchased a large "the works" sandwich to split so asked for it plain and asked for mayonnaise and peppers on the side . If we had gotten all the available options we were told that it wouldn't have cost any extra but since "they" put them in little containers we were charged 39 cents each . ( these containers do not cost even close to that ). My husband purchased the same almost $12 sandwich and had everything on his but his was 78 cents less . I was excited to try a new sandwich place after driving to Sterling for the antique shop. When I asked if either of the bread options had dairy in it, the clerk said, "We don't cater to special diets here." I said, "A lot of white breads don't have dairy..." and she flat out refused to check and told me I could order a sandwich without bread. Not that it matters, but not having dairy isn't a dietary preference nor can I take a pill to allow me to eat it, so I wasn't asking them to cater to my whims. I just asked them to look at a label. The unwillingness to do so was rude and frankly hurtful (though I'm kind of sensitive about the way not being able to eat dairy excludes me from some things). I can't comment on the quality of the food, of course, because I couldn't eat it! read more

I am beyond sick with this establishment. I used to come here weekly or have my wife stop by for a number 4 or 2 for the past year or so. I have smelt cannabis twice since coming here with my wife. Some of the workers are incredibly rude. I haven't read too many bad reviews but I have spoke to people locally in the town and they agree with me. This establishment has gone downhill the past year or so. Workers smoke cannabis inside of the building. I have now over 6 videos of a worker whom I have read a review about on this same app smoking cannabis inside of the facility. I am a retired health inspector and this would not fly. My 14 year old sons girlfriend has shown me multiple videos of this girl smoking inside of the building. She took a video herself once when her and my son were there and there was an unsmoked 'blunt' casually sitting in the bathroom. A blunt is tobacco leaf rolled with cannabis. There was also a bag of white rock stuff. My sons girlfriend is a sweet girl and didn't even have a clue what it was. For the sake of that, I will not further describe it in the event which she should read this. The bag was in a plastic ziplock gallon sized. I have the video but I am not going to post it. This same girl has posted her login codes to whatever system they use to sign in to see how many hours she has worked etc. Beyond unprofessional and also not safe. Anyone can see this stuff. It is on her Snapchat (an application for iPhones and iPads and androids, free on the App Store) story. There are families who come here. I wouldn't want my 5 year old niece trying to grab drugs off of the counter while her mom goes to the bathroom. For content I would not like my children seeing I am not going to post the other videos I have of this girl. I see a review made a month ago or so about I believe the same girl. Long skinny red hair girl in her early 20s. I will find out her full name if possible. If you see this review, I agree with you and believe it is unprofessional and unsafe. She has also posted photos making fun of law enforcement when the people who PROTECT this town stop by for food. I have videos of a lot of things she has posted on her online accounts thanks to my son and his girlfriend. She says she is not close with this girl at all but the 'Tortilinni' girl added her on Snapchat. Making fun of police doing their job and simply trying to enjoy a meal on their break, shame on you. Many locals love Arthur's Garden Deli. It was the original sub sandwich with gourmet accoutrements. The sandwiches are of great quality and built to order. They have great sides that you can't get at the typical sub shop chain (Subway now exists in the area), typically introducing brands locals have never heard of (soda's, chips, desserts) and I think that helps in its appeal. You can go here with just about anyone and all will find something to fill the void - soup, salad, sandwich, loaded baked potato, etc. Good stuff, if a bit overpriced by the time you add in all the sides. Always hopping as the locals love it. I usually eat here at least once during my visits. It is a good place to grab lunch, has something to please everyone, is clean and conveniently located. read more

If you live out in the Sterling, Rock Falls, Dixon area- Arthur's is a way of life. Arthur's is a deli that is so good- I live in Chicago now- and can't find any deli to take it's place. For starters- the bread the make the sandwiches on is delicious, slightly sweat, and do soft. There are many variations of sandwich, cheeses, condiments, etc. They offer salads (green and past and potato), soups, fruit bowls, salad bar, desserts, frozen yogurts and toppings, baked potatoes with toppings. All restaurants have dining rooms, and drive thrus, no delivery. It will cost you more than Subway, but it's 1million times better!!! read more

I grew up nearby Arthur's and my family and I have been eating here since their doors opened. In fact, I am almost certain that my family has given more money to Arthur's than to any other restaurant. I moved away a few years ago and have since lived in Los Angeles, California and Portland, Oregon, two cities that are renowned for their food. As a sandwich-guy, I have tried many of LA and PDX's best sandwich shops, and I can proudly state that nobody does it like Arthur's. In fact, out of the very few things I miss about living in Northwestern Illinois is eating at Arthur's. And it's not just a nostalgia thing for me either. Arthur's really does, dare I say it?... yes..., have some of the best sandwiches in the country. The soft bread, the thinly sliced lettuce, the quality cuts of meat and cheese they use, the fresh toppings... I've never had anything quite like it no matter how hard I look. And although Portland's renowned Bunk Sandwiches has mouthwatering menu items such as, for example, the Korean Pork Shoulder sandwich (with house kimchi, cilantro, chili mayo, and lime), I still find myself longing for a good old fashioned Arthur's #1. Arthur's also has amazing chili. Their soups are fantastic too, but I had at least a decade-long love affair with Arthur's chili throughout my youth. Get it with cheese and onion on top. Oh, and their employees are typically among the friendliest there are. Always kind. With as many times as I've eaten at Arthur's, with as much money my family has spent there over the years, with as much longing I still feel for their food, I have to say that I feel a sort of love for Arthur's Garden Deli. I will continue to search Portland high and low for a sandwich that I like just as much as Arthur's, but I don't know if that day will ever come. But one thing is for sure: I haven't been home to Ogle county Illinois in over 3 years, but the moment I do, I will make a B-line for Arthur's and gorge myself on their chili and sandwiches. read more

So this place is super simple and I think that is just why I like it so much. You get a good sandwich, throw in some soup if you'd like and grab a seat. This place is quick and easy for lunch and I personally love meeting up with a friend or even a group here. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Living 13 hours away means I don't get to savor it enough - The #2 that I got this last time was delicious. The bread is amazingly warm, not soggy, not toasted; the ingredients, I don't know how they do it! I can literally taste all of the ingredients- the two different kinds of cheese, the two different types of meat, the pickles-lettuce-tomates-onions and the Dijon mustard. Got a "potato" for lunch with cauliflower and broccoli. After I pushed the vegetables off to the side and all the cheese whiz off, there the was maybe a 1/4 of a potato there. I paid $5.25 for a potato and get cheese whiz and a few vegetables. For that price I will like a whole potato. My friend got a Braunschweiger sandwich and there was only a half a slice of Braunschweiger. Come on, at least give us a slice. Will not return there. read more

We lived in Sterling from 1984 to 2007. I haven't been back since 2008. I can't tell you how many times I've wished I could get (or make) one of the Wolber"s wonderful chicken salad sandwiches. Our whole family always enjoyed any visit to Arthur's. Wish Denver had one - there are definitely a few good delis here. Heidi's is good, but nobody has that great chicken salad. Nobody. Seriously if you are driving through or hungry in the area this is the place to go for lunch. Super simple, fantastic sandwiches and very reasonably priced. I run from McHenry to Quad Cities for work sometimes and was lucky enough to pick this over Arby's for food. I got the #1 which was very very good. Chips were Cape Cod, and soda for 10 bucks or so. They do have a drive through which is what I did. I will be back every time I am in the area for lunch. read more

The family visits here frequently. The Hot Potato and the Chicken and Cheddar sub is my standard menu choice. They offer frozen yogurt with plenty of toppings to choose from. It is like a cafeteria like experience with grabbing your own tray, placing your order, sliding down the rail and picking up the sides. Price-wise is good.
