Excellent online training class. Instructors are very attentive and will help you in anyway they can. One to one training was amazing and I came away more experienced, more confident and all around a better shooter and handler. Thank you Ben, Emily, James and the rest of the team at Artifex for an excellent job and experience.

Such an amazing team to train with. Ben, Daniel, and Emily are amazing knowledgeable trainers. Safety is absolute priority. Whether you are a beginner or advanced shooter, this is the place to go. My husband and I have been training with Artifex for a few years now and the knowledge and training they offer is far superior to anyone else out there.

I cannot begin to say how amazing Artifex is! From my initial conversation with Ben about a beginners private lesson, to the lesson itself, and the text check-ins afterwards to see if I had any questions after the lessons, Artifex has been top notch in making me feel more comfortable and confident at the range and with handling different firearms. Ben went above and beyond answering my questions, introducing me to people at the range, and covering even more than I could have asked for in each lesson. If you are considering a class or a private lesson, look no further! Ben - THANK YOU!! I can't wait to get back out there with you guys!

This was such a great experience! Ben was a fantastic teacher and very patiently and knowledgeably answered our questions and helped us really learn how to shoot effectively. The whole experience was top notch!!!

Was all over the place before the lesson. Though still not great, huge improvement, which shows how effective Emily's teaching is.

Just finished my first session with Emily Chen, and things could not have gone better. First met with Emily about a month ago at a new shooter orientation. Though I was not a completely new shooter, I wanted to reestablish proper fundamentals. Her instruction is clear and simple, eliminating any kind of overthinking, which is my tendency. After the orientation, I confirmed my interest in private lessons and Emily welcomed the opportunity to take me on as a student. It took some time for us to line up our schedules, but we finally connected today for an afternoon session. She's been instructing for about 4 years, but the way she carries herself and presents the information you'd think she's been teaching for far longer. She's very observant of how her students carry out the shooting exercises they perform and quickly points out adjustments needed. She also explains the reasoning behind the adjustments, giving the student a conceptual understanding as opposed to simply saying "because that's the way you're supposed to do it". Despite a direct and hands-on approach, she leaves enough space for the student to see what they are doing right/wrong and process on their own why they got the result they did. She also tailors her instruction towards the student's goals, which she asks about before any instruction begins. As far as Artifex itself is concerned, the site is very simple and easy to navigate. Payment is quick and painless, and I received the payment and appointment confirmation quickly. Artifex also sends a reminder email and text, which I find helpful. My only "complaint" is that they haven't yet found a way to operate in San Diego. Hopefully that is in their plans and will happen soon. Overall, my experience with Artifex and Emily has been superb and has exceeded my expectations.

We purchased a new firearm and did a local search for an introduction to safety and handling of our shotgun and came across Artifex Firearm Training. We had a private lesson with Ben from Artifex Firearm Training and he was terrific! He was very thorugh in teaching us safe handling and use of our shotgun. We were nervous, excited, and then empowered as his lesson progressed! His techniques were perfect for first time shotgun owners. He guided us every step from transport to firing and we left very confident in the handling of our firearm. We can't recommend them enough for new firearm owners, very professional and comfortable to work with. Suffice to say, we will be going back to Ben and Artifex Firearm Training for a long time to come. It's a pleasure learning something new from people who are knowledgeable and caring!

Ben is a great personable instructor. The class was entertaining, informative, and a bunch of fun. While the range isn't state of the art or anything, he makes up for it with incredible knowledge, and good humor.

CCW Training with the Instructors at ARTIFEX equals high quality subject matter expertise and added value training!

Dave, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to actually help you without any pressure or attitude. If you've ever been to other firearm stores, you probably know what I mean. Many places can come off like they have a superiority complex, like you're supposed to already know everything. That's not the case here at all. At ShootSoCal, you can ask any question and they'll walk you through it without making you feel uncomfortable. That alone goes a long way and keeps me coming back. I've purchased items from them, had builds done and even had custom work completed and every single time the result has been the same: top-tier service and excellent results. They're consistent, professional, and genuinely care about their customers. I recommend them to everyone I know. Small shop, but good selection of equipment, from AR parts to carry bags, oil/maintenance kits etc. Also, staff gave me some practical advice about anodizing the steel barrel I had purchased (for getting a different color on it), getting a gun locker and outdoor ranges within a 45 minute drive. Lastly, I was offered assistance to assemble my firearm, but didn't need it since I'd been studying how to do that while waiting to take delivery. Bottomline: I'd use ShootSoCal as an FFL again.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. It sounded like they made special accommodations for myself and some other shooters, by opening up the "tactical" range, since there were no members shooting at that time. That was awesome, because it got me on the range sooner. I also brought with me a new firearm - Canik Mete MC9LS with a new optic. I forgot my regular range bag with my tools; however, the range staff allowed me to use one of their tools to adjust my new optic. I don't know how the targets move on the regular range, but on the tactical range, you can push buttons to automatically set the targets at a specified distance, move the targets manually back and forth, and automatically have the target return. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable. $20 per lane and $0.50 targets - WAAAAAY better than prices in the Bay Area. If I were a resident of the area, I'd definitely become a member. (I overheard one of the staff members informing another customer of the benefits and price.). Top Notch outfit in my opinion.

I attended their intro to handguns class, covering the basics of safety and proper form, and getting in some introductory shooting experience. John, our instructor, was very engaging and great at commanding attention when needed and building up the class's confidence. Afterward, I took them up on their 'newbie' offer of free range time and rental after class. Kevin signed me up for a lane, let me rent a couple of handgun models I researched previously, and critiqued my targets, giving some general feedback and advice. He also pointed me toward a couple other models that are known to be more friendly to left-handed shooters that I can test out in the future. Great place; a little on the older and smaller sides, but staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. I get the feeling that as I 'shop around' for my go-to range there's a strong chance I will gravitate back here, since these guys are passionate about what they do, and seem to want to inspire that passion in others. Definitely will make it a point to stop by again.

He focuses on proper gripping of the firearm, stance, breathing, hand and arm placement/coordination, trigger pull, reloading etc. all of which improved my skills. Review for Tap Rack Bang Rating: 5/5 Stars…read more If you are looking for CCW training that goes beyond just "checking a box," Tap Rack Bang is the gold standard. I recently completed my first class with them, and to say the bar has been set high for any future training would be an understatement. The Coaching The instruction from Ernie and Josh is truly superior. They strike the perfect balance between being encouraging and providing the kind of necessary, corrective criticism you need when handling a firearm. They don't just watch you shoot; they coach you through every movement. Their ability to spot a mechanical flaw and help you fix it in real-time is impressive. Professionalism & Environment CEO Ernie has built an incredible team. From start to finish, the entire staff was professional, helpful, and clearly dedicated to the craft. As a first-time student, I felt welcomed but also respected as a serious trainee. The Standard This class is designed to prepare you for the real world. They ask you to push yourself for perfection, which is exactly the mindset demanded by CCW criteria. They don't settle for "good enough," and they make sure you don't either. Final Verdict I strongly recommend this class to everyone, from absolute beginners to experienced shooters. You will leave more confident, more capable, and with a much deeper understanding of what it means to carry responsibly. Also, shop at costco.
