(Posting conversation for full transparency) Buddy already had a kind of bad experience here where they forgot to install a part back on his firearm. We ended up coming here to do a PPT since it was in the middle for both of us. Finished everything and on the way home got a call there was a small error on the paperwork , luckily they were able to fix it on their end. Fast forward to this last experience, Took my 2.0 in for a port/window and Cerakote job. Was given 2-3 week time frame. Messaged them 2 weeks in to get an update and see if it was possibly ready. Responses I got made me feel unsure what was going on but just let it be and decided to wait for them to follow up for my pick up. 7 weeks passed by and I had not received any update or heard from them so I decided to send a text. Turns out my gun had been ready. Went to pick it up, and they gave it back to me completely disassembled (springs, cover plate, etc.) with the parts in a bag. I Asked if they don't put it back together since I brought it all put together and they had taken it apart. Employee said a gun smith just came in so he can ask them. Other employee at front asked which gun it was then said he would do it because gunsmith doesn't work on that. Began to work on it then said he realized it was my order and mentioned how there was something with the Cerakote being super thick and that a part wasn't sitting right and ended up having to take it to the back. Brings it back out together which is when I saw how the screw wasn't sitting flush and looked like maybe it was stripped. He took it to the back again and fixed it. (I noticed the sights were also scuffed up a bit but didn't even want to bother with it at that point) Only reason I'm doing 2 stars is because I liked the cerakote and port/window job. I used ShootSoCal as the FFL for my purchases from Palmetto State Armory. The staff was patient and diligent in explaining the process to me (this was my first firearm purchase online), as well as all the charges necessary to take possession of my PSA purchase, including background check, transfer fees etc. (sidenote: aside from the background check--which I don't object to btw--it's quite a racket Sacramento's politicians have got going -- this particular comment is aimed at them, not the folks at ShootSoCal). Small shop, but good selection of equipment, from AR parts to carry bags, oil/maintenance kits etc. Also, staff gave me some practical advice about anodizing the steel barrel I had purchased (for getting a different color on it), getting a gun locker and outdoor ranges within a 45 minute drive. Lastly, I was offered assistance to assemble my firearm, but didn't need it since I'd been studying how to do that while waiting to take delivery. Bottomline: I'd use ShootSoCal as an FFL again. read more

This gun shop came highly recommended by my firearms instructor. The two young clerks who helped me were excellent--friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I paid for an in-stock Sig Sauer P365 late Sunday afternoon but didn't take possession since the background check wasn't complete. After verifying the serial number with Sig Sauer, I realized I needed the smaller version (not the Macro) and came back first thing Monday morning with my receipt. I simply asked to have the purchase credited back while I researched the correct model. To my surprise, the owner told me there would be a 30% fee--even though the firearm had never left the store or been transferred. We eventually worked it out without me losing $300, but the experience left a bad taste. The clerks did a great job, but the owner's rigid approach cost them what could've been a loyal, repeat customer. I came to Shoot SoCal last week to get a new pair of sights installed. Went to the range today for the first time since installing them, and within the first 100 rounds, the front sight started flopping around (first picture). If it were 5,000 rounds in, I could understand maybe some other factor, but under 100 rounds makes me think this wasn't tightened at all and definitely no Loctite. I came home and inspected it more and discovered that the rear sights were also not tightened at all (second photo). It has a center screw that tightens down with an Allen wrench. As you can see from the photo, this screw has multiple full turns to go before sitting flush with base of the sight, which means the gunsmith didn't even try to tighten it at all. The owner Dave (believe that's his name, only heard it once) runs a tight shop, knows his stuff, and treats his customers well. The real hero here is STEPH, the artist in the back of gunsmithing doing all the stippling, cerekoting, and custom work on your piece. She touched base with me over text to give me updates and even sent a sneak-peak photo before everything was done to show me progress. I can't recommend this shop enough.
