Born to do art, forced to write emails...I know I've been saying this a lot (especially w/all the great businesses I've found lately), but seriously I'm so happy this place exists. ARTime BARRO is part pottery studio, part community space, and is a relaxing, chill place where you can unleash the creativity you thought was dead, where your artistic spirit gets to come out to play, if only for just a little bit of time in this crazy world. On a recent weekend, I had the opportunity to take the One-Time Class, which is a one-hour course designed for complete beginners. You get to make two pieces, one by hand at the table and one on the pottery wheel. The class size was small (just 5 people) and we got great 1:1 instruction and guidance from our knowledgeable instructor Max. I've always wanted to try the wheel and was surprised how hard it was to use it but it was such a great experience that I think everyone should try at least once. After you sculpt your pieces, you are invited to come back to hand paint (glaze) your work at no additional cost. You can also have them do a one-color glaze for you, but after I saw all the multi-colored pieces of other folks previous to me, it was no contest to decide that I wanted to color my pieces myself. You have up to 3 months to come back to glaze so it's very doable in anyone's busy LA (corporate) lifestyle. Pricing was very reasonable for such a cool bespoke experience. There are a lot of pottery painting studios (e.g. Color Me Mine) but this is awesome bc you get to make the pottery AND color it later! I wanted to try a class with my daughter, so I bought a couple of Groupon's for us to try out a class. But the Groupon vouchers would not work. So I waited a day, maybe it needs time to process the voucher. Next day, I try it again. Still doesn't work. I try calling them, but they don't answer phone calls. The message says to email them for customer service. I email both their info email address and the email address for the location I want to go to. I got no response. Now all the slots for the day I want filled up. I have two vouchers I paid for that I can't use. I have serious buyer's remorse. read more

This place is amazing for pottery on the West side of LA!!! I can't recommend this place enough. I bought a Groupon for 2 people and my best friend and I loved it! We even bought 4 wheel thrown classes to come back. The best part about these classes is they are smaller, 5 people go a group. You get to make 2 pieces per person - 1 hand shaped and 1 on the wheel. I came here for a beginner pottery class with eight other friends. I like that they can accommodate larger parties, and the overall experience was really enjoyable. We had Spencer as our instructor, and he impressively memorized all of our names--he was so friendly and helpful! The class itself had two portions: one making pottery by hand and another using the wheel. It was very cool to experience both perspectives and see the contrast between perfection and imperfection. The 90 minutes flew by, and we all had a great time. After we finished, we were told to come back in about two weeks to paint and glaze our pottery, so I'm definitely excited to return and see how our pieces turned out. I'd totally recommend this spot for first-time pottery makers. Thanks to Spencer for being awesome! Parking - They have free parking in the back, which is a huge plus. There's also street parking if the lot is full, and it looked plentiful from what I saw. read more

My friends and I were looking for a beginner pottery class and found this place through Groupon. We attended the one-time class, which was a nice introduction to pottery. Our instructor was friendly and gave clear directions on how to mold our pieces. We each made 2 pieces, so the one hour really flew by. We had the option to come back to glaze our pieces or have the studio glaze them for us, and opted for the latter. There's a small lot behind the building, but it was full when I went. It wasn't difficult to find free street parking on a Sunday evening in this area. The pottery pieces could use a bit of extra care in handling (my wheel-thrown piece had rough edges and a random piece stuck on that wasn't there initially, and the glazing didn't look thorough on my other piece), but overall I was happy with my pieces. This was a fun experience, and worth the value! read more

I booked a pottery class with a friend and did it in January. Did the glazing appointment in April. Life stuff happened so didn't pick it up right away. We got an email on June 11 to pick up our items or they would be disposed of a month later. My friend came on June 14 to pick it up, but they were already thrown away. What? I was looking forward to getting our pieces. Your email is misleading. there was also no warning about how soon the classes had to be booked together. read more

My husband and I came here for the beginner class. It was so relaxing and fun. Parking was easily found in the lot around the back. The space itself is very open and airy with cute motivating posters and great indie music playing. We started with the pinch pot and then moved to making a bowl on the wheel. The class includes all the materials including a choice of wood stamps to use and an opportunity to come back and glaze your pieces. The class is small, limited to 5 people, allowing just enough instruction and intimacy. Our instructor, Spencer, had the most calming voice and great energy. He directed us when we needed a little guidance (especially on the wheel) and was very helpful. My friend got me 2 gift certificates to do a pottery clay class back in July 2023 for my birthday that I'm just now getting to in July 2024, even though it expired they were very nice to extend my certificate till now! I came in today with my husband and did 2 activities one on the table (hand building ceramics) and then one wheel throwing, they were both a lot of fun! Our teacher was really patient and great with communication on how to do things, his name was Sundai (sorry if I spelled it wrong). It's a really nice environment and spacious, originally I had Costa Mesa booked but Laguna beach had an opening earlier so we made a whole date out of it with this planned into the day. We will be back whenever they tell us to come in and pick up out ceramics ! :) I'll update around then. read more

Had a workshop planter class on 1/3. Pick up email states to call in advanced to pick up pottery, I called and no one answers their google number. So I decide to go in person to pick up on 2/25; not only did the person working take their time but I am missing a pottery piece from the workshop. Worker decided to teach a class and do everything besides helping. Members of ARTime Barro were really helpful on trying to flag the worker down but the worker was very unhelpful of the situation. I waited an 1hr+ for him to take 10 minutes to tell me that he couldn't find it. Very unfortunate that I didn't receive my pottery pieces (even though there's an email from 2/3 stating that it's ready for pick up and it's not even accurate). read more

Today my child and I attended a wonderful workshop. We both did two separate projects, one with just hands and tools. The other project we had the chance to work with a pottery wheel.
