I have been to this plaza so many times and never ventured into this gem of an art store. I will be frequenting here for sure. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I overheard them talking to various customers and knew what they were talking to them about. As far as products, they carry really fine art supplies that are extremely hard to find in larger art store chains. The prices are very fair too. I do bullet journaling and nearly died when I saw all of the amazing pen and marker displays that they have as well as notebooks. Artist and Craftsman Supply is the BEST art supply store I have ever been to. They have everything at great prices. The store is very big so they carry a lot more than any other art store I have been to. Don't let the name of it fool you - they carry all professional artist supplies. Before I went inside, I thought they might be a store that carries drills, and wood pieces, etc. I was delighted to see they carry all artist supplies - oil paints, watercolor paint & high quality paper, sketchbooks, all acrylics and mediums, wax, paper, frames, boards, oil sticks, pastels, etc. etc. All of it and more. They are also a great place to holiday shop for kids, because they have terrific stocking stuffers and creative games. If you like art or if you want to buy gifts for your loved ones ---- go there . I used to shop at the Portland, ME location when visiting friends. Why? A&C has the best prices on canvases and cradled boards out there. Their regular prices on acrylics are the best, they carry the GALLON sizes of most mediums and have a terrific brush selection at very reasonable prices. Their selection of sketchbooks is amazing and they have everything from watercolor blocks to penny sketch papers. Seriously good stuff and at again reasonable prices. The store that I just happened to stumble upon this afternoon while buying shoes at the Sketcher outlet on RT 1 in Saugus, is like all the others I've been in, well organized, clean, friendly attentive staff. (I was asked twice if I needed help finding anything and actually greeted as I walked into the store.) Friendly is the first word that comes to mind when I think of A&C. The staff is all also knowledgeable about art and the supplies they sell. Forget AC Moore and Michael's unless you have a coupon, A&C has what you want, frequent sales and staff who are knowledgeable and friendly. I'd give this place 10 stars if it were possible. I had no idea that A&C occasionally gives out free stuff with your purchase. I went yesterday and received a goodie bag of assorted stuff. As an art student I am always looking for quality but decently priced supplies and I can assure you, you can find it here. Places like Micheal's or any large chain craft store would have prices exponentially higher. What makes it even better is that the customer service is great! Right when I came through the door I asked where a product was and I was gladly helped and even recommended products that would give me more bang for my buck. I have never experienced better service at an art supply store. Also if you can't find something in the store they can almost order anything for you. This place is HUGE and it's CHEAPER than Dick Blick Art Supplies! Tucked away in the corner of the plaza, A&C Supply may look small from Rte 1 (you could even pass it), but making the effort to find it is SO WORTH IT! It has everything imaginable for the fine artist and crafter. Plus they remembered our little artists, having a selection of craft making items for kids in the front of the store. I can't say enough about the wonderful customer service here. I am always greeted and offered help, and no matter how "uneducated" a question I have, they never make me feel that way! And they make me feel they are happy I shop there. Ever since I began painting classes they have helped me find paints, brushes, and now even affordable frames that fit my canvasses. The staff is super friendly and more than willing to help you out with any questions, or even walk you through picking out your school supplies list. They can even custom order things not in stock. I was looking for a place that would have more fine arts supplies. Michael's, Jo-ann fabric, and AC moore didn't have much of anything for print making. I just happened to drive past A&C and stopped in. Love at first sight! They've got everything fine arts and lots of quirky stuff( like crazy mints and tiny dinosaurs). The staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable. They can usually tell you from first hand experience what a product is like or how to use it. You can come up to them with whatever project you're working on and they will give you some solid advice on what stuff you might need. If they don't have something in the store that you need, they'll direct you to where you can find it. There is plenty of parking, which comes in handy when you buy a lot of cumbersome supplies that could get damaged on a long trek. If you're an artist or affiliated with a gallery of some kind, they let you put up a card or flyer for upcoming events. They'll even tell people about openings and the like, if someone seems interested in artistic events. All-in-all one of my favorite places to be. read more

It's a good place to buy everyday art and craft stuff and regular or custom frames but their return policy is not at all customer friendly. I bought a very expensive bevel blade to frame my own pictures but realized I couldn't use it. I went to return it the next day but they didn't take it back saying it was opened once and cannot be returned now. Not a big motivation to come back to this store. read more

This is heaven for artists ranging from beginner to professional. They have a wide array of products that range from inexpensive hobby quality or children's art project all the way to serious artist and craftsman quality. I just downloaded Yelp specifically so I could write a review of this place. I've been going to the Cambridge location forever, but I stopped into the Saugus store today in a panic looking for a very specific supply for a class I teach (a few rolls of low gauge copper foil? Who needs that? I did). Well, they had it, and a bunch of other stuff I needed. They have a teacher discount, are super helpful, and artists work there-which means that when you go in looking for a flat-edged 2" ribbon tool, "this weird plasticy japanese paper that you can use ink on", or many tubes of white gouache (actual purchases I've made), they know what you're looking for. Not to mention, they have every variation of sketchbook ever, tons of weird discount papers, and lots of other cool stuff to discover. I've always heard that my procrastination will catch up with me, but if A&C is going to save my butt every time I need a last-minute supply, why should I ever change? read more

I've been to a number of art stores throughout Salem, Peabody and danvers and this is by far my favorite one. You can't beat the prices and it seems like every time I'm in there they have sales.
