Our project was multi-faceted, with some unusual requests. Of course we had the normal "update the cabinets" piece (Re-door, paint) , but we also had a large solid maple built-in outdated entertainment wall that we wanted modified and painted, plus a two-tiered island we wanted made into one-tier.. We also wanted to add several cabinets to extend from the kitchen into the dining space along the wall. We received the three bids and Kitchen Tune-up of Eden Prairie was the one that most impressed us. Not only was their price very reasonable, but they were incredibly helpful and flexible. There wasn't any request we had that they couldn't fulfill. Angela and Annette (one of the owners) came for the initial consultation. They offered ideas, listened to ours, and made some preliminary measurements and gave us their tile and countertop suppliers' information. A few days later, they sent us their quote and it was very reasonable and included everything we wanted! A few days later, Angela and Annette came to do the measurements. While here, they offered some advice on our initial decisions and we updated our design. While here, they asked us why we chose them. Our response? Their flexibility, ability to accommodate our varied requests, the fact that the owner found us important enough to come, the energy they brought to the job, and their personalized attention to us. We felt from the first meeting that we were more than just another customer. Our remodel began on Labor Day, 2022! Over the next few weeks, Annette, Tim and their team worked tirelessly to transform our 1999 space into a beautiful, updated NEW SPACE! We LOVE IT! They put in long days and even weekends to do it all right. When faced with an unforeseen issue, they solved it and everything came out even better than we had hoped. My wife and I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed working with everyone from Kitchen Tune-Up - Eden Prairie! For the stairway runner, we had a specific design in mind and eventually found it online at a different merchant. We selected this place because it was local. Mistake! They were helpful in the selection process…read more The installers come in - never even introduce theirselves. They do the job. Their goal as stated to me is to "clean up at least 90% of the post installation mess". We had 0% cleaned up. Carpet threads all over the house, staples all over the floors. We ran the vacuum at least 10x to get all of the debris picked up. Shortly after install we notice visible seams. A large one with an unfinished area in the main room. Another very visible seam in the bedroom. They did send a repair specialist to attempt to fix the seam. After being told they would "re-stretch" and fix, he was at the house for 10 minutes. Threw 2 staples down and hit the seem with a carpet hammer. Off he went. So much for the re-stretch. So much for the mentioned independent inspection. It looks the same. Not to mention, coming 1:45min late for the repair appointment. Also, the man I spoke to "Mike" with horrific customer service speaking to me like I was his child. Lecturing me how to justify the incompetence of the installers. We try to support local. AWFUL all around ! Embarrassing.

I would give zero stars if I could…read more I entered into a contract with Excel builders to add a bathroom to an existing unfinished space. They had full access to the space and many opportunities to inspect and measure it. I informed them multiple times over the course of 5 or 6 meetings that it was a tricky project and a prior contractor had already failed because his design did not meet MPLS building codes. Excel assured me over and over again that they understood and promised that their final product WOULD meet code - something we even insisted in including in the contract. After spending many hours meeting with them, visiting plumbing showrooms, discussing the project in great detail, they suddenly informed me that they had relied on their memory of the code rather than verifying it and that their design would not work. See the attached picture of the horrible design they provided as an alternative - everything was crammed into one corner. Luckily, they returned our $10,000 but they kept their design fee even though their design was not legal. I would strongly caution against working with them, unless you have a project that is very simple and will not require much attention to detail. If you want to work with a top-notch company, TreHus is the way to go.

As agreed before work started, he would charge a hourly wage of $70 because the job was new to him and to bid the job was nearly impossible. We felt that was a premium hourly wage but the job was small and we agreed to it. I kept track of the hours myself and we have a driveway camera that he didn't know about that documented his time here also. When we got the bill the hours he had under "labor" were inflated. I tried to give him a graceful way out with an email so he had time to think about it and I also suggested that it was just a honest mistake. My thinking was give a person a way out to save face. His office manager called me and told me that one hour was his math mistake but the other hours were "drive time." I balked at that, I told her he had not mentioned anything about "drive time." That none of the other subcontractors on this project had charged drive time and they all drove a lot farther. I said I was not happy with that and did not agree with "drive time." especially since he never mentioned it. I told her to talk to Brett and send me a new invoice. He called several days later, his explanation was that it was Not "drive time" it was time he spent loading his truck the night before, (not much was needed for this job) he went on and on about all the things he had to do that would have pertained to my job prior to arriving to my house. He stated many petty things, way to many to mention but some were "thinking about it" and his wear and tear on his truck, his drive time again and after what seemed like an eternity he brought up his insurance. I was at work and had to stop him because I was sure he was going to bring up his electric bill and having to shower in the morning & I just didn't have anymore time to listen to him ramble on and on. I told him that I had listened to him enough and that everyone and anyone who has a job does what he is talking about getting ready for work. That he had not mentioned any of these add on's before the verbal agreement was made and I had taken him on his word. My opinion on this is that he got caught inflating his hours and he had to come up with something, how ever stupid that may be. He had ample opportunities to bow out gracefully and he chose not to. So I paid a little over $100 than I was suppose to. He pointed out that that was a small amount. My thinking is, if it was so small and I had more ground to stand on than he did, why he didn't suck it up instead of me. He sent me a final invoice after our phone discussion which I closed with, "this is crap and I am not happy" "you do what you think is right and send me another invoice." He could have at the very least, met me half way and I wouldn't be writing this. Nope, he sent the invoice with the bogus hours still on it. He had 3 opportunities to make this right. We would not use him again or would we recommend him to anyone else. I am old fashion enough to believe that a Deal is a Deal and A MAN IS ONLY AS GOOD AS HIS WORD. This man doesn't seem to believe in either.

We hired Knight Construction this past summer to complete a total kitchen remodel project with…read morecustom cabinets, new hardwood fooring and the resurfacing an old brick fireplace with stone. We asked Knight if they could complete the work in just six short weeks as my family (my husband and three kids under the age of five) were moving into a small apartment for three months due to timing differences in our close dates. They accommodated the request with the caveat that the bulk of the work would be completed by move in and that finishing/warranty work may need to extend another week or two. Upon signing the contract, we immediately began working with Kristin, the designer, to ensure fixtures, flooring and other items were selected and available upon closing on the new home. The day after signing the close papers, the dumpster was delivered and Jeff our project manager began demolition with his crew. I won't tell you that the project was seemless in every instance and without a couple of minor glitches. But I can tell you that in ever instance, Gary and team worked with us immediately to either remedy the issue or help us find the best solution to accommodate our budget concerns and ensure our move in date wasn't jeopardized. Over the past 10 years, we have remodeled two homes and built a third. I have used three different Companies for each of these projects and I would without question hire Knight Construction back to do another project. Over the short few months we worked with Gary and his team, he always kept his word and remedied situations that weren't up to either his quality or ours, which were minimal. I appreicated the fact that three months after the project, I'm still able to call and ask him to look at something I think got missed in the warranty period.
