When I was planning for my original wedding for 10/10/20, I reached out to Shelby (WELL in advance) but sadly she was already booked. Fast forward to peak covid, we made the decision to postpone the wedding to 10/23/21 and the only vendor that wasn't able to accommodate our new date was the MUA I previously hired. I immediately reached out to Shelby for the 2nd time, hopeful that she'd be available for the new date, and she was! I knew it was meant to be so I hired her on the spot before doing my trial. I was an out of town bride so we ended up doing a trial a few months later when I was visiting for the weekend and she made all of my wedding makeup dreams come true. I'm a makeup lover and wanted FULL GLAM for the big day and Shelby delivered 1000%! On top of her extremely talented makeup skills, she is incredibly sweet, has the best energy/so fun to be with and we hit it off instantly. I even decided to do a 2nd trial/glam sesh when I was in town again a couple months before the wedding, just because! Shelby recently opened up her own makeup glam bar/studio Toniq, and we decided to use the studio to get ready on wedding day. It was literally a dream! Toniq is THE most fabulous studio ever and I still can't even believe we had such an amazing location to get ready. We had 9 girls total for both makeup & hair and more than enough space for all of us to glam, and set up breakfast and drinks. Shelby is incredibly accommodating - provided ice, drink coolers, and even surprised us all with babe rosè (which of course we had to use in our getting ready photoshoot)! When we arrived, she already had the music playing and the mood was set for the best glam day ever. Again, it was literally a dream! If you are getting married in San Diego and have the option to get ready at Toniq, I absolutely recommend it. Our getting ready photos are better than I ever imagined and look like they belong in a bridal magazine! Shelby - thank you for everything! Postponing our wedding was challenging, but I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and I'll be forever thankful & grateful to have had you as our MUA. I received partial highlights that were very brassy and looked grown out the second I left the salon. I spent the day of my appointment really disappointed and bought blue shampoo to try to brighten the tone, which didn't work. I decided to call the salon and the owner called back and had me come in to fix it. I drove 30 minutes back to the salon, and when I got there I explained what I didn't like, and the stylist asked me what I wanted to do. Since I'm not the stylist I reiterated that I wasn't sure but explained the problem. He did a quick toner and dried my hair, and I felt much better. The next evening I washed my hair and all the toner came out and my hair was back to where it started. At that point I didn't feel comfortable going back because my concerns were given such a temporary fix and weren't taken seriously. An experienced stylist should know that toner wouldn't last and that I wouldn't be happy in the long run, despite the $300 price tag. I gave it a few weeks to see if I could get used to my hair, but hated it every time I looked in the mirror, so I made an appointment with a different stylist at a new salon. When I told her my experience she said she would have guessed it had been a few months since my last appointment, not a few weeks based on how brassy and grown out it was. She recommended I reach out to the salon and request a refund of some kind based on how my hair looked. I took her advice and emailed JolSalon with my concerns and photos of my hair. After a few weeks no one responded, so I called and left a message explaining that I'd like to talk about my experience. No one called me back so I emailed again asking to talk about my concerns and my experience. It's now been two months and no one has responded to me. I'm disappointed that they have handled a poor experience in such an unprofessional way. If a refund isn't available then they should be open to hearing about my experience so they can learn from it, but nothing. I strongly recommend you avoid this salon.

She listened to my wants and needs and I came out with the perfect haircut. The place is cute with open windows so you can people watch. My only bummer was parking. It's street so get ready to come early to try and navigate that but of course that doesn't impact the service I had. I ended up parking on one of the side streets north of Rosencrans which I recommend. There isn't a lot of parking south of this location really unless you want to pay to be in the big harbor lot. I scheduled my trial with her on the day of my engagement photo shoot and LOVED how my makeup turned out. She assesses how comfortable you are with makeup and asks what your preferences are so that she can get a sense of what would be most suitable. I really appreciated that she provided suggestions on what to do if I were to cry or if my skin got oily. By the end of the day, my makeup still looked great despite sweating a little from running around on the beach. On the day of the wedding, she came on time at 7AM and set up all of her things very quickly. Hien and Metzli did HMU for my mom, the groom's mom, and myself. They were able to finish hair and makeup for all three of us by 10AM as promised, and everyone was very happy with their look. My mom even said that her makeup looked better compared to when she had her makeup done for my brother's wedding a few years ago. I keep on getting emails back asking if I want to hear there promos, I get separate emails back asking the same questions as I already answered. I will not be giving my money to this place. If they can't even communicate to set up the appointment, I can just imagine what else they will mess up. Also, I tried calling them but they never answer and their voicemail is full. Very fishy activity if you ask me.
