I went here in February for a haircut and partial highlight, and based on my experience do not recommend them. I received partial highlights that were very brassy and looked grown out the second I left the salon. I spent the day of my appointment really disappointed and bought blue shampoo to try to brighten the tone, which didn't work. I decided to call the salon and the owner called back and had me come in to fix it. I drove 30 minutes back to the salon, and when I got there I explained what I didn't like, and the stylist asked me what I wanted to do. Since I'm not the stylist I reiterated that I wasn't sure but explained the problem. He did a quick toner and dried my hair, and I felt much better. The next evening I washed my hair and all the toner came out and my hair was back to where it started. At that point I didn't feel comfortable going back because my concerns were given such a temporary fix and weren't taken seriously. An experienced stylist should know that toner wouldn't last and that I wouldn't be happy in the long run, despite the $300 price tag. I gave it a few weeks to see if I could get used to my hair, but hated it every time I looked in the mirror, so I made an appointment with a different stylist at a new salon. When I told her my experience she said she would have guessed it had been a few months since my last appointment, not a few weeks based on how brassy and grown out it was. She recommended I reach out to the salon and request a refund of some kind based on how my hair looked. I took her advice and emailed JolSalon with my concerns and photos of my hair. After a few weeks no one responded, so I called and left a message explaining that I'd like to talk about my experience. No one called me back so I emailed again asking to talk about my concerns and my experience. It's now been two months and no one has responded to me. I'm disappointed that they have handled a poor experience in such an unprofessional way. If a refund isn't available then they should be open to hearing about my experience so they can learn from it, but nothing. I strongly recommend you avoid this salon. read more

I searched Yelp for a reputable salon with a stylist I could trust and decided on this one. I genuinely appreciated the skill level and knowledge of the stylist I booked with. They worked carefully to keep my hair strong, soft, and healthy throughout a 9+ hour treatment, which I did value. However, despite the time and effort, I left my appointment very disappointed. Prior to booking, I clearly discussed the details of what I wanted. When I arrived, I specifically reiterated that I did not want my roots touched and that I wanted a high ombré. By the time my hair was fully bleached, the day was over and I was exhausted. Unfortunately, I left with jagged, block-like streaks that stood out dramatically and vibrant fuchsia colored hair instead of a pastel pink. Thankfully, I was offered a complimentary correction and returned the following week. However, at the start of that second appointment, I was told I would need to pay to have my roots fixed because it was "not what I asked for." and refused to correct my hair to pastel pink. This was confusing, as I had clearly communicated my request multiple times and had even shown reference photos. At that point, knowing I would have to pay either way to correct my hair, I decided to proceed. In total, I ended up paying nearly $800. I'm still unsure how there was such a miscommunication. I was clear and precise in my explanation, repeated myself several times, and provided visual references. Additionally, I was given a quote prior to my first appointment. My stylist was aware of my starting color, the desired shade, and what the process would require. Yet after nine hours, the final price was several hundred dollars more than originally quoted, reportedly due to extra product and multiple batches being needed. On top of the second appointment? The lack of cost transparency was disappointing. Overall, I was disappointed not only with the final result but with the experience as a whole. I've had this exact same service done at other salons in the past without spending that many hours, paying that much, or walking away with results I didn't ask for. I just went through a big life change really wanted a hair style to match. I was so excited to go in for my haircut. When booking the appointment the website said my service would include a consultation and the stylist would discuss different styles to compliment my face shape and hair type. When I sat in the chair I provided a few reference pictures of what I wanted (an edgy layerd vibe) and also told her what I did not want. I did most of the talking I was barely asked any other questions. I was just told I'd be getting a "cute layered look". When she was done cutting it she styled it curled so I didn't really get a good idea of how the cut looked since it was not straight. When I got home I realized I had absolutely no layers and one side of my "curtain bangs" was shorter than the other. There was basically no difference and I walked out looking pretty much the exact same except at least I had healthy ends? I paid $100 for a haircut I could have gotten at super cuts. By far the most devastating experience I've ever had getting my hair done. I went in for a full highlight, haircut and blow dry (listed at $200 on the website). I asked for a golden blonde with face frames and left with almost BROWN hair - the darkest it's ever been in my life. She charged me $350 ($400 with tip), and did not consult me that it would cost almost double. I also asked for a trim and she cut almost 3 inches off my hair. I went back 2 days later to have it fixed and re-lightened. I asked to take my face frame down closer to the root because the stylist shadowed it too much the first time. She ended up bleaching all of my scalp around my face (which burned) and not blending it into the rest of my hair, so I had crazy contrast between the front pieces and the rest of my hair. This was the most insane-looking, unprofessional hair-dye job I've ever seen. I looked like I was wearing a costume, it was a joke. After washing my hair a couple days later, my hair was breaking off from bleach damage. She literally killed my hair follicles at the root. Obviously I did not want to go back to have it fixed AGAIN, so I went to another salon and told them what happened and they were horrified. They had to shadow my roots back in, and now my hair looks better, but much worse than what I originally started with. The first time I went to this salon, I had the BEST experience, but that stylist doesn't work there anymore. It seems like stylists tend to rotate in and out of the salon pretty quickly, because the website had an entirely different team when I went to book this time. Huge red flag. Overall, this has been an absolutely devastating experience with a stylist that clearly does not know what she's doing and is completely out of touch with any sort of modern technique. I have multiple important life events coming up and my hair is a mess and there's nothing else I can do now because it's too damaged to have re-done. read more

She was so wonderful -- cut it in beautiful layers that let my highlights grow out without looking so bad and encouraged me to not mess with it if I wanted the grey to come in. I was sorry when she moved east but not at all sorry that she recommended Fernando who, after two haircuts, is my favorite stylist ever. Or right up there. The first time he cut my hair, it came out exactly as I wanted: long, lighter layers. The cut made my drab natural, graying hair look happier. Yesterday was the second time, and he added a few touches I love. He is a dream to work with, very responsive and very skilled. I have been continually impressed with the space at JoLsalon - open and airy and attractive and clean. I have been just as impressed with how the management and staff has handled things during the pandemic. I never feel nervous going there. I came in 2 weeks ago to trim 2" off the ends of my very long hair down to my butt. I usually wait a bit longer to trim it than I should however I do not use heat products, I do not dye my hair and my hair is healthy. I left in a hurry to catch a flight.. it looked even and felt shorter than normal. As I was walking home I realized how much she cut off and I was devastated. 2 weeks later and I am still so sad that my hair is not even past my nipples. She cut off more than 7-9 inches!! I went in today to express how much it has affected me since it will likely take 8 months for it to grow back and I was hoping for an explanation, an apology and some validation in hopes that I could gain some trust and bring my business back another time as I am aware mistakes happen. This is not what happened, she gaslit me and was just rude, zero costumer service skills. I hate writing negative reviews and this doesn't make me feel any better but I truly hope she learns to treat her clients with more respect, dignity and empathy. I am deliberately leaving out the name of the person, they know who I am speaking about and another there seemed to side with her so now I think the salon as a whole that is a problem. She said I should communicate better, however I believe the one holding the scissors is responsible for educating the client on exactly how many inches they are going to cut off. Never had such a bad experience at a salon! A very nice place with massage chairs and whatnot, but I've had much better service at less fancy salons. I just went in for a quick root touch up, but after my stylist was done, the red at my roots was so bright! They also used a toner to touch up the red I already had, and it looks more brown than red, so I have bright red roots and brown on the bottom. It does not match at all, and neither look the way I wanted. I had to leave to get ready for a flight later in the day, but they kept saying I needed another dye in my hair for 30 minutes to make it right, then extra time for drying and styling. I didn't have that time at all. Very disappointing, because I was going on a big trip to Las Vegas and wanted my hair to look nice. They did put a toner in really quick to tone it down and did not charge me, which was nice, but I came back later to get it fixed, even though I didn't really trust them. They did not have the time to see me except during work hours. Other salons are saying it will cost a $200 base fee plus $60 per hour to color my hair because they have to correct all the damage this salon has done. So now I'll have to spend upwards of $200 to get my hair fixed, since they messed it up so badly.... Plus, the cell service is very bad. read more

Megan is awesome! I am sad that I won't be back anytime soon. I ran out of time and didn't get my haircut before I left for our vacation. My hair was having a bad hair day every day since I got here. Maybe its the water and the hotel shampoo. I tried but it felt like straw. Going to an unknown salon and hairdresser is a little risky but I also thought it might be a treat to have my hair done for the party. Megan put me at easy and talked with me about what I wanted and what I was looking for. I really only needed a quick trim and clean up. After washing my hair she gave me a wonderful head massage and put a hot towel over my head to let the conditioner set. She used United shampoo and conditioner which was really nice. The chair was so comfortable. It gave me a massage while she washed and it was actually nice. It wasn't one of those chairs with hard bumps poking into your spine. The movement reminded me of ocean waves riding over my back. Megan took time to cut my hair evenly but was still so pleasant to visit with. I really enjoyed talking with her and it didn't seem like small talk that can get awkward. She dried and styled my hair and it looked nice but natural and not overly made up. She gave it some volume and gave me some styling tips. It was nice to hear that my hair is healthy without feeling pressured to buy stuff. She did also explain how a good product is worth it and after using bad shampoo I do half to agree with her. The salon is big and open but also cozy and not icy. They offered both me and Mr. G a beverage when we arrived. The service is outstanding. There were a variety of women getting their hair cut and styled. A bride was there and she was calm and looked amazing. Not many places do up dos and wedding parties but they do and without all the craziness. I wish I would have had more time to have my eyebrows and make up done. My cut and style was $65 which was a bit more than what I typically pay but it was worth it. I really wish I could give this salon a better review. This is my second time here, and I left so incredibly disappointed this time around. While the salon is high end and the massage chairs at the shampoo bar are amazing my hair cut was nothing like what I asked for. I went in asking for a just above shoulder length cut with some layers. And was very specific that I needed to be able to tie my hair up. I even reminded my stylist multiple times early on. At one point she cut a piece towards the front of my face really short, much shorter than I expected. So again I reminded her that I need to be able to tie my hair up however it was clear at this point that I was about to be very disappointed in my cut but that it was too late for it to be remedied. I went in for a birthday haircut, a gift from my Mom, who knows that I never do anything for myself. It had been a few years since I had gotten a much needed haircut, and I was feeling a bit nervous. I used JOLSalon for mine and my wedding party's hair and makeup back in May - and they were absolutely fantastic! First off, we booked Sam to do my mom and I's hair - and we went for a hair trial about the month before the wedding. She was so friendly and easy to work with and did a great job of making our hair "visions" come to life - we knew then we'd picked a great spot! On the day of my wedding, we got to the salon at about 10am and had the salon to ourselves until about 1pm (about 9 total people, including bridesmaids and moms!). We were able to bring in finger foods and drinks and it such a fun little pre-party. Sam did my hair and London did my makeup, and I absolutely loved everything they did. I don't typically wear a lot of makeup, but London made me want to wear it more often - I need to learn his tricks! I felt like myself, just a much better version!! My hair stayed intact all night long and even looked halfway decent the next morning :) I don't remember the names of all the girls who did my bridesmaids hair, but they were all so nice and fun and everyone loved their hairstyle. I would absolutely recommend JOLSalon for wedding hair and makeup - so glad I chose them. I plan on going back to see Sam soon to get a trim and color! I called for a last minute blowout (literally called 30 min prior to showing up) and they miraculously had an availability. They kindly offered refreshments upon arrival. Fernando was my stylist for the day and he was so kind and polite. He periodically would ask if I was comfortable as there were times I was quiet. I was simply just enjoying the service as it was quite relaxing. All the products he used left my hair feeling soft, voluminous, and just straight up leaving like a model. Plus that Dyson Hair Dryer in itself was so cool. Fernando provided an amazing service today, he was gentle with my hair yet they entire blowout itself was quick and precise. After doing a Google search for Kerasate salons in San Diego recently I discovered JoLsalon. My initial appointment was for a Kerastase Fusio Dose treatment with Fernando who was great and very knowledgable about which line my hair most needed and why I should put the bond repair stuff away that really wasn't helping me. Just because of which day/time I needed for my next appointment I ended up seeing Elle who did a great conditioning treatment (also Kerastase but slightly longer and heat-activated) and then gave my hair a nice blow out finished with some light, beachy waves. Just saw Elle again today for a long-overdue cut and toner treatment - she took my hair from yucky yellow to a perfect (aka just the right side of ash) cool blonde.
