I am going to age myself a little bit here. Around 15 years ago, a friend and I visited the MFA. I…read morevividly remember these creative chairs with placards stating "please be seated." We'd look at each other, laughing, saying "I am sitting on art!" Though a newly minted teenager, I had the wherewithal to know not to touch anything (unless expressly permitted). This is one of the things about the Pucker Gallery that I wish were more clear. Some of the art pieces were designed to be interacted with, like a unique working elevator-type piece. Paintings? haha yes - I know to keep a respectful distance here. Some other pieces, while I cannot remember the specifics, felt they could have been either. Further, on the same note, there were a couple sliding walls with art slightly tucked away; are we welcome to pull these out, or a no-touching zone? Despite the two paragraphs I just spent exposing my past and putting the gallery on blast, I thought this Gallery was awesome! For what seems like a smaller gallery, they had more works seemingly than several contemporary art museums I'd been to. There were a handful of exhibitions and numerous works within each one. The best part: entrance to the gallery is free! Especially where tickets to the, [in my opinion small and underwhelming] ICA and Mass MoCA are $20 and $25, respectively, this is beyond amazing! Thus, Pucker Gallery is in a league of its own. It is like a free mini-museum that I would happily visit again, either alone, with a friend, family, or even a date!

I visited Pucker Gallery for a private event on a Monday evening. I've definitely passed it by…read moredozens of times, but never actually noticed it. When you enter the building, you'll have to take the elevator upstairs to reach the actual gallery. I was impressed by the size of the place, especially given it's on Newbury Street. I'm honestly not a huge art person, but I really enjoyed walking around the gallery. There was a wide variety of art, so there's something for everyone. I especially appreciated how there was a lot of signage with information on the art, as well as some tv screens with educational videos. I'm not sure if this is the type of place you can often rent out for events, but if so, it's really a cool spot for that purpose. I hope to come back and visit Pucker Gallery again!

This gallery shows a combination of paintings by living and deceased artists, as well as a few…read moresculptures and antiques. The style is definitely traditional overall, with a combination of Impressionist, Academic, and Boston School artists represented, to name a few genres. The gallery itself is in an old townhouse that is furnished to look like a home. Don't think they're closed -- you have to be buzzed in to enter. And yes, that's because the work is just THAT valuable. I've said this in other reviews, but I prefer going to galleries over museums when I want to see traditional artwork. The admission is free, and if you ask the staff politely you can probably learn about how the artist painted the work, etc. There are always free flyers you can bring home for your art notebook, too.

Although I'm not the most well-versed in art history, the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and I've enjoyed listening to them speak about the art and the gallery. They have a passion for this gallery specifically, which is evident when you walk throughout and see them interacting with artists or customers. While I haven't decided on a piece I'd like to purchase, the staff are always accommodating and don't seem to mind if I ask them a lot of questions. Highly recommend this gallery whether you're a serious buyer or just looking for an excuse to admire some beautiful artwork!

The first floor is a mix of adult and children's pieces. The second floor has a huge dinosaur and art within the art... Visit and you'll know what I mean. I had never heard of this "stuff" or the artist before ... nor am I fan of Legos. However, this place is awesome!!! I would highly encourage everyone of all ages to check this out. My favorite pieces were on Floor 2. First, the dinosaur. Duh!!! That thing was sa-weettttt!!! And second, the "paintings" with the Lego items in the art and present in real life. We walked here easily from Kenmore Sq. but there's Hynes Convention Center T-stop at the beginning of the famous street. Cute buildings and shops, lots to explore, cafe-s, restaurants. Unfortunately more chains took over from the time my husband lived near by. I wasn't impressed with the selection of restaurants either, couldn't find a place to dine here at. Lots of boba drinks shops. Very pleasant to stroll, you can walk as much as you like. The shopping area goes for about 8 blocks. A must see area in the Back Bay of Boston! Their main outdoor, historic, shopping area!

They recently renovated, upgrading the charming farm stand to a full on rustic market. Fresh veggies, coffee station, frozen goods, jams, chocolate goodies and more. I usually come for the little walk around the farm to see what's growing, the u-pick flower garden, to swing on the swing set, and to see if any farm animals are around. There's a parking lot and picnic tables scattered around. Pricing is reasonable, u-pick is about $15, they used to charge by flower stem. They also host events and have activities for kids. Honestly, Weston is more of a suburb so it's a nice surprise for people when I tell them that there is actually more to see than large homes!

In June 2024, she let 9th graders from Prospect Hill Academy High School hang and celebrate their art in her professional space, allowing them a special opportunity to be artists and to invite their parents and community to admire their "Visions of the Future" (the title and theme of the show). It is not everyday that you run into people interested in donating their space and time to elevate the worldviews of local teenagers, so we are forever grateful. Beyond running a gorgeous event space in our neighborhood, Peggy epitomizes what it means to be a community partner and champion for others.

The last surviving 18th century residence in the Sumner Hill section of Jamaica Plain, it was built…read moreas a residence and farmstead in 1760 for a wealthy British Naval officer. As he was a loyalist prior to the American Revolution, he abandoned the house in 1774 and fled from Boston. The house was confiscated by American forces initially as a headquarters and later as a hospital. Today, the house has been carefully preserved. The grounds are open to the public and the interior is used for hosting events. As I was just passing through Jamaica Plain, I did not have an opportunity to attend an event. But the outside is lovely and worth a look to see what homes might have been like a few hundred years ago. The US doesn't have much history, but there's some here for sure.

We walked through the museum portion first interacting with different stations. The museum is pretty small but detailed and takes about 30 minutes max to go through everything detailed though you can probably skim it in 15. The exhibits do rotate and the last one we wanted to see sold out. As we entered the next room we were greeted with a fabulous gimlet. 5 stars! Next we had the taste and smell experience of the exhibit where they had a vaporizing machine and you could drink (inhale) a margarita or chocolate which was mind blowing and so unique. We then did a smell machine where we guessed scents the machine was able to make up off different nodes, so fun. We tried inhaling chocolate cocoa through a cigarette-like candy. Our favorite was the vanilla coconut milk gel covered balls. They were delicious and unlike anything we have ever had. Super refreshing. We had such a good night we continued to Cafe ArtScience right next door where Todd Maul (former mixologist at Clio, our old favorite go-to) impressed us once again by mixing up some impressive concoctions. Probably one of our best date nights yet, so unique fun and different.

UNIQUE ART & DESIGN CENTER FOR A FULL SENSORY EXPERIENCE…read moreopen Wednesday - Saturday! I'm so surprised that I had never heard of Le Laboratoire before. Sitting next to Cafe ArtScience, this art gallery/design center is cleverly in the center of bustling biotech/pharma that is growing in Kendall Square. A Harvard professor opened this gallery only in Paris and Cambridge, MA as a place of true innovation showcased in a truly interactive way. I purchased a Gilt City deal for a guided tour through the Lab Lounge. The deal included the following: + GALLERY OF "THE TROUBLE WITH JELLYFISH": A full gallery with paintings, drawings, and a furniture installation with unique jelly fish objects, live jellyfish, and interactive ways to learn about the ways jellyfish are impacting the ecosystem. This exhibit is ongoing until Jan 2, 2016! + "OPHONE" EXPERIENCE: We were able to witness creating and sending different smells directly from an iPad to a device called the ophone, which emitted smells from different card insertions. + INHALABLE WHAF: Taking alcohol, this whaf turned the liquid into smoke that you could inhale and taste. You can't get drunk off of this "cocktail", though! + "AERO" BREATHABLE CHOCOLATE: This device looked like a mini vape, where you could inhale chocolate without consuming the calories! These aero shots were also available for caffeine and vitamin C shots. + LAB COCKTAILS: They were really strong! ~ 8 WIKI ICE CREAM TREATS: These ice creams were self-contained sundaes - little balls of ice cream in the center with chocolate or blueberry coating. I would just rather have a normal sundae! The guided tour was an awesome experience and we were able to see other inventions that were using recycled plastic and trying to preserve/create energy. This is a truly unique exhibit and perfect for the Kendall Square area, a place full of educated individuals and growing innovative industries. Definitely stop by for a date or group outing!
