I visited Artpace for the first time a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I finally found the time to visit, because it's pretty amazing. So what is it? Artpace is nonpprofit residency program for artists. Each year, a guest curator selects three artists for residency - one Texas artist, one U.S. artist, and one international artist. The artists can create new art which is displayed in the building as an exhibit. Will the art always be your cup of tea? Definitely not. Is it still amazing that artists get support to be able to create new art and that the San Antonio community can experience it? Yes. So if you're interested in contemporary art, definitely stop by! It's free to visit, has free parking, and is open 7 days a week! And you might just learn about a new artist or type or art you didn't even know about!

Swing over since we have time before our lunch reservation. The place is small and has a free parking behind the building on the other side of the street. Staffs are friendly and take time to explain us about the arts in the building. There aren't too many exhibitions when we were there this weekend.

Artpace is a cool little art gallery that's really fun to wander around in. When we visited, all the gallery spaces were open so there was a good variety of art to explore.

We were visiting San Antonio and wanted to do something indoors to escape the summer heat. Some reviews mentioned that they were able to spend an hour here, but there were only three exhibits open when we visited on a weekday afternoon. We only spent about 30 minutes here. I do appreciate that each of the exhibit artists had descriptions of their art pieces including the meaning of their art. The art was all interesting, I just wish it was larger since we drove a distance to get here. There is a very large free parking lot right across from the back corner of the space. It is a fenced area that has a Artspace label on it.

I've lived all over the United States and this is absolutely one of the best contemporary art institutions I've ever seen. San Antonio is so lucky to have it. The staff is awesome. The curators and artists are so good. It's an incredibly high roster of talent who has graced and graces artpace's 4 galleries. I love the concept of this space and how it doesn't forget its own Texas artists while showcasing international ones. I live in New York and make sure to visit artpace every time in s.a. Visiting family. Great size space. You can see everything in under an hour. It's free. There's no reason not to go.

Great space. The levels are nicely divided and the space for the artists are spacious. Traffic is light but flowing. Drinks are cold and service is prompt and polite. The rooftop, is outstanding!

The concept of Artpace is phenomenal: rotating artists in set blocks of time throughout the year with representation of one US, one Texsan, and one international artist. Members of the museum get invited to openings and fundraisers. The gallery is always cutting edge and organized well inside of a warehouse type setting. The issue is regularity of general public hours. I have been on numerous occasions where they are either between exhibits or the exhibits are not open for viewing. I would highly suggest calling before visiting. The free parking lot is a bit up the street if you look for a fenced area that says Artpace. If not metered street parking is available.

So I came here just last night for the Bling Bling Fling and I have to say I really enjoyed the space. I had heard about it from multiple people and it was nothing but good things. The space is really huge. They have this fantastic roof top that reminds me so much of the roof top parties I loved to go to in New York. The employees are super friendly and helpful. Everytime I needed something I went to the front desk and had a massive discussion about my options which made me laugh and forget how stressed I was. They have regular exhibits going on that is free and open to the public. They also have regular events at the space. I just love the utilization of the massive space. The fact that this great place is bringing modern art to this area of San Antonio. It makes me really happy and believe that San Antonio is growing so much.

This art museum was beautiful and unique! The layout was so interesting and I loved the exhibits. I will defiantly return next time I'm in San Antonio!

This was our second museum visit of the summer while my sister is staying with me. I feel like they've added so many new exhibits since my last visit, or maybe I just rushed through everything back then. This time, I really took my time reading about the artwork and exhibits, and it made the experience so much more fascinating. Each floor had its own unique collections and displays to explore. My favorite part was the Chinese vases exhibit. I don't remember seeing it before, and it was incredibly interesting. It was something completely new to me and definitely stood out during the visit. It was a little warm inside, but nothing that took away from the overall experience. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and we had a wonderful time. I definitely plan on bringing my other sisters here in the future. Highly recommend checking it out, especially on the free admission days!

The museum itself is easy to explore, and there were several pieces that caught my attention. Overall experience felt somewhat disjointed. The arrangement of the galleries was interesting, but the assortment of art often seemed random rather than thoughtfully connected. I found myself wishing there was a clearer curatorial vision tying the exhibits together. In some areas, it felt as though the artwork had simply been placed around the museum rather than organized in a way that told a cohesive story. There are definitely worthwhile pieces to see, but I think the museum could benefit from stronger curation and a more intentional flow between exhibits. Worth a visit if you're interested in art, but it didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

The building itself is art with its wood detailing, arches, and intricate tile ceilings and floors. The actual art collection consisted of over 20,000 items, but only some are displayed and occasionally on rotation. The collection embodied European and American art of the nineteenth century, twentieth, and twenty first centuries. Sooo much to see- paintings, special exhibits, vase collection, Angelica Raquel Mystic Threads, sculptures, and a lovely garden/pond/fountain containing koi. The museum has a gift shop, restrooms, and a special collection of art displayed by many artistic school children. My new found artist I discovered here was Carl Rice Embery. A pure Texan, his art was amazing ! Initially I thought the pieces were photographs, but up close they are actual paintings. That's how realistic they are. Simple Texan scenery. We had a great time and would definitely come back!

Most museums have very old famous painting, but the Briscoe has a large number of paintings which have been painted recently. Now don't get me wrong, Blue Boy at the Huntington is an amazing painting but the paintings at the Briscoe were so vivid and captivating. I wish I could have purchased at least a dozen of them. The colors were bright, which made me wonder if this is what it would have been like looking at a Van Gouh a year after it was painted? Even though there were contemporary painting, the subject matter was distinctly western capturing a style unlike anything I have seen before. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. For instance, we asked what's the best way to go through the museum. Start one the 3rd floor and work your way down. We highly recommend making a day of it.
