About 5 years ago a local nonprofit had one of their fundraisers here and I remember thinking it was a really great venue. We got to wander around the 5 different galleries and watch the harpist they had in what I now know is one of their two theaters. After cocktails we were ushered into a large space that they had cleared out- but left all the paintings on the walls- for dinner. The room had floor to ceiling windows overlooking the rest of the arts district around the building. It would definately be a great wedding reception venue. The play was fantastic- On the Mississippi Delta- and we were able to walk around a few of the exhibits during the intermission. Check their website for upcoming plays!!!

It's 2 theaters, an art gallery, local art for sale, etc. There's tons of local community theater projects going on. I came to see a play with a friend and we really enjoyed the experience! I loved the current gnome themed art they have in the gallery entry as well as the wooden pieces. Everything I saw was available for purchase. I'll be back!

We hadn't seen Shucked before and I knew it'd be the funny light hearted silly type of humor we'd enjoy together since we love laughing. We had a great time. My son wasn't originally planning on attending but his flight was delayed by 9 hours, and the box office provided exceptional service when I needed another ticket upon arrival. While the production runs are pretty short it's so special to have the opportunity to catch the touring shows. We valeted the car and pre ordered ice-cream for intermission. If you live nearby this is a no brainer and even from a good drive over I'm still considering several other shows. The performance hall is very lovely, plush seats, lots of nice options for snacks and drinks. Bring a sweater because it can get a little chilly but perfect escape for whatever weather TX is throwing at you. Every individual from valet, to box office, ushers and more provided such great service. We throughly enjoyed ourselves. Looking forward to returning and making more of a day of it while in the Fort Worth area.

The subtitles above the stage made it much easier to follow along with what was being sung, which really enhanced the experience. The atmosphere was perfect for an afternoon performance, and it was nice that drinks were available. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout. We sat in the upper section, and it did get a little warm--but considering it was a full house, it was understandable. Overall, it was a beautiful performance and a great experience.

Well acted, you could clearly picture everything happening even with its minimal sets. A really lovely evening. This location was a little confusing to me at first, so let me make it easier for anyone else going. You are looking for the Fort Worth Community Arts Center building, inside is an art gallery (which you can peruse for free beforehand) and two theater spaces, the Sanders Theater and The Scott Theater. Parking was right across the street in the Will Rogers Coliseum parking lot. Hardly any walking required, it really is right across the street. It did say special event parking $10, but when we went the gates were up and it was free parking. The Sanders Theater is very small, about maybe 6 or seven rows of seats going up, so very close and personal performances here. There is just something wonderful about smaller live productions that people really put their time and heart into. No dress code here, come as you are and enjoy. Would be a wonderful night out with the girlfriends, drinks after to discuss. "Oh, earth, you're too wonderful for anybody to realize you." ― Thornton Wilder, Our Town

The "Our Town" production was very well done, and I love the minimal sets approach; it certainly lent credence to the production of Thornton Wilder's script. Much like Lars Von Trier's Dogville it was a story larger than life, one that eschewed sets and props because of the blatant humanity that was on stage. Indeed, the very superfluous world melted away as the characters spoke; to add sets would have been meaningless. The fact that we arrived just as it was storming was a bit of serendipity, yes one might say, because instead of feeling afraid at the tentativeness of a passing storm and tornado, I was instead feeling afraid at the frailty of Life itself, coming from the demoralizing but beautiful play. I heard absolutely nothing going on outside, which speaks well to the soundproof walls of the theater. The staff was splendid and provided a nice compliment to the performers, which were nothing less than masterful. You, yes you reading this, ought to go see more small productions as wonderful as this. It is so much more interesting and valuable than a night out at the movies. The Earth itself, in the words of Wilder, give this a hearty recommendation.

It is attached to the Bass Hall complex in downtown - great location. And it is, apparently, managed by the worst sort of amateurs. We attended their 08/09 New Year's Eve bash. As billed, it should have been lovely: warm up with some drinks over blues, kick it into high gear through midnight with the awesome Tejas Brothers then mellow out the buzz with a breakfast from Joe T's with pastries from Esperanza. Aces! Pricey at $100 a head and a no-host bar but a fun bill. Or so we thought. We knew we were in trouble when we wandered in about 15 minutes after the 9 o'clock opening and the Bros were already on stage. WTF? Weren't they billed as the headliner? Weren't their pictures plastered over every ad we saw including the Startlegram? They played a great set with tunes written by every member of the band and Dave Perez's stunning Louis Armstrong on What a Wonderful World. Then, suddenly, in a terrifying lurch, they not only left the stage at 10:00 but they also announced that "breakfast" was served and there would be an hour break in the music as food was served in another room! Way to crank it up! Sigh. The food would have been good if we hadn't just eaten before wandering over to the show. And conversation with other attendees might have been fun if everyone wasn't being stunned and cranky by this evil turn of events. When music finally did resume around 11:00 we were in bluesland - not the highest energy location at the best of times and, with a crowd filled with Mexican food, the joint was far from jumping. Jim Suhler & Alan Haynes were not bad and at times - briefly - were quite good. But they lost what few stars they had won when they proved to be so self-involved that they played right through midnight without so much as a pause to acknowledge the coming of the new year. Some free advice for McDavid Studio: when you book a performer as charismatic as Dave Perez for New Year's Eve, make sure he is behind the mike at midnight. If you are serving breakfast on New Year's Eve, serve it AFTER midnight with some lower energy music - say some blues, maybe. And never ever ever advertise one show and deliver another. I know I won't be back and, judging from the grumbling, you're going to have a hard sell for many of our fellow patrons.
