Had such an amazing time! Very intimate theater with an amazing history. I think that there are probably 70 seats?!? My mom and I saw "Single Black Female" with last night and we loved it. Very unique, interesting, and eye opening show. Loved that the actors interacted with the audience, made some mistakes--which is totally fine, and provided a real face to what black women are experiencing in their 30s. So glad that I called when I did to get tickets when I did as this is the final weekend and they are sold out! No bathroom on site and no intermission. That's ridiculous. We didn't find this out until we were already seated and had to forfeit our tickets as they will not let you back in the theater once you leave. Come on, if you don't have an intermission or bathroom you need to let people know ahead of time. It's not that serious. Too many other theaters to choose from, never again. read more

The Jubilee Theatre's Mission Statement is: To create and present theatrical works which reflect the African-American experience. From my perspective, they do this very well. The Jubilee is a small intimate place to see passionate actors work their craft. I've been here a few times before, but it's been a while, and this was the first time back since discovering yelp. The theatre is great, though the show we came to see "Black Spurs" was a little disappointing, but still fun. The play was written by Celeste Bedford Walker and the music is by Ron Hasley. Preview was November 24, 2012 and the Play ran from November 30 through December 30, 2012. It's a family Musical about the colorful and diverse history that shaped the wild wild west. A young man sets out to avenge his father's death and save the family farm by joining a trail ride and winning a bull-riding contest. Along the way he meets a cast of characters that helped to tame the west. The main reason it was disappointing is that it was rushed through production. Before the show even started we were told it was a "work in progress", which I guess means it can only get better. Still, the Jubilee is a great theatre and definitely worth checking out. Ticket buying tip: Call the box office. You can buy tickets on-line, but you'll be hit with a per-ticket service charge. By calling the box office, there was a single flat-rate charge for the service. It saved several dollars per ticket. Matinee prices were around $9, evening prices around $15 (this may very by show, but the prices are consistently quite reasonable). PS. This was my first at the Jubilee and I can not wait to return. It is such an intimate theatre. Every seat in the house is great! The staff is so warm and welcoming. They have a small concession area so you can enjoy wine, beer, soda, water, and snacks while you enjoy the show. Credit cards are accepted. Free valet parking, just be courteous and tip! They have a steady stream of plays drama's and musicals throughout the year. I have always been amazed at the talent that constantly comes through this place. On my latest visit, I saw the Jubilation II musical. Very beautiful and very impressing experience. This is one of my shorter reviews because not much needs to be said. I'm a fan! It brings me that old school feel, which I totally love! The Story: Went here to see the play "Travelin" a 1930s Harlem Musical, back in April 2013. The play was cool, but the building itself was awesome! I love architecture, especially the ones that have history attached to it. Vibe: Nice Customer Service: Hmmm. how can I put this, I'm noticing that the "southern hospitality" is actually a myth. They say Californians are stuck up and New Yorkers are rude, well I beg to differ. Whilst purchasing tickets for my mom and I, we approached snotty looks at the counter. Which then totally ruined my mood ( I have anger issues like to the max, but I'm learning) :) This alone brought the 3 stars to this theatre. read more

I love this theater. I have seen several great shows here. The theater is small and intimate. Every seat is a good seat and there are good spaces for people with wheelchairs or rollators. Purchasing tickets is easy online. Late patrons are not admitted so get there early as parking can be a challenge. read more

This is a quaint little theater where you circle the stage area. There is not a bad seat in the house, but please note that you will not be able to go to the bathroom during the show, so you will need to hold it until intermission. We went her to celebrate a late V-day on 02/15/09 and we saw the Bluest Eye. They did a family friendly adaptation of the book, the acting was great, and overall we had a great experience. I bought a ticket on a whim (When in Rome, right) and ended up buying the very last one available. everyone was friendly-- box office staff, valet staff, and the actresses! We got our seat number at the door AND seats aren't numbered with long rows so CHAOS ENSUED!!! Someone was in our seats and I mentioned it to the fella seats there and he said they were his. We asked an employee for help and she said, "Sit wherever you'd like because front doors are closing soon." So we did and guests said those were their seats. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. We told the same employee what happened and she said the same thing AGAIN! We were last ones to finally find seats. Frustrating, embarrassing! If seats hadn't been $35, we'd have left! read more

Growing up with parents who were both into theater in college (it's how they met actually), I remember being taken to more plays than movies as a child. How cool is that? I love going to see stage productions! I've been to a lot of playhouses and this is one of the best ones I've been too. As Pamela R. pointed out, there isn't a bad seat in the house. I love the small, intimate feel that the theater provides. My first experience here was when my boyfriend's parents took us to see "From the Mississippi Delta" back in February. The cast consisted of three ladies, each of whom did an amazing job. The story itself was incredible and I love how the ending tied everything together - brilliant. I am going again this Saturday to see "One Mo' Time." I can't wait! read more

Went here to see "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope!" directed by Akin Babatunde with musical direction Geno Young. This show was just fantastic! A wonderful performance by a cast that functioned seamlessly as an ensemble! The theatre itself is small in size, but big in personality. We sat in the next to the last row and could still see and hear everything coming from the stage brilliantly (shout out to the sound and lighting designers!). What a pleasure to finally be able to visit this historic theatre and to see such an awe-inspiring show was more than icing on that cake! This theatre seems like the perfect place to become a season patron if you live in Ft Worth or Dallas as it looks like they do some pretty great shows here! Highly rec! read more

Went for our 5th time and saw the musical Beehive. It was really a great evening of going back to the music I grew up listening to. The six women were more than capable of handling the singing roles they were given. The sound for the most part was good but on some of the ballads it was tough to hear and we were on the second row. The theatre is small but that is not a bad thing if you like feeling and being close to the performance. A very intimate setting that the wife and I truly enjoy. The tickets for preview performances are between $19 to $25. This a great price for live professional performances that are real quality. Love their productions ! The highlight of the evening,for me, was the Tina Turner rendition of Proud Mary. The girls and costuming were spot on and the lady playing Tina looked, sounded and danced like Tina. Great fun and memories. A truly fun evening. Add that the parking is valet and free and there are many great restaurants very close to the theatre it all adds up to a reasonably priced evening on the town. Would definitely recommend and will be attending more performances in the future. read more

Well Jubilee has gotten rid of the dysfunctional girl that never could sell a theatre ticket even if you found the seat and swiped the credit card for her! Unfortunately her wickedness took Tyrone King away, w/her devilment and lack of interest in the theatre patrons. I am burned up about this b/c Tyrone fixed all of the messes that this dysfunctional salesgirl created. And he fixed them so elegantly w/such grace. I so wish they would bring Tyrone back! The curtain entrance and exit is just not the same w/o him. Luis and I went to see "Topdog/Underdog" Friday night. This was an excellent night to go b/c there was only a handful of guest in attendance. DFW residents are apathetic! This drama was excellent. You can see the play on You Tube so that you can glean what it was about. This play was written by Suzan -Lori Parks and I was told that she is the first African American woman to win a Pulitzer Prize. The next play, which is the Christmas play will be vey appropriate for children. I strongly urge people in my readership to take advantage of the wonderful cultural advantage that the Jubilee Theatre offers. There are times when this theatre is sold out, so don't sleep! A recent play, Alice Wonder was hilarous:) I saw it twice. Once w/ my daughter and the last time w/my husband. I had (2) different experiences at the same play and took something different away from it each time! Live theatre is never performed the same so there is a wealth of experiences to take away from each performance! My first time at the theater was for the performance of "In Real Life" and I would call it a major success. It was my first experience in a smaller theater of this size, but it was very entertaining. The cast (composed of one woman) was phenomenal. The show I went to was attended by my college theater class, so it was pretty packed for a Thursday night, however, I'd imagine it's not usually as crowded. The entire theater is a lovely hole in the wall, I'd never noticed it before attending my first show. The space is small, but well utilized. Seats- comfy. Bathrooms- clean. Show- amazing. We had tickets for the Motown Christmas on 12/23 for 8:00, was there exactly at 8:00 and the doors got locked and they were not letting anyone in. Doors opened 10 minutes later and one of their workers had 3 additional seats they could seat. They let in the 3 people but we had pre-paid tickets since 12/1/17, The door got locked again and on the tickets it mentioned you could watch the show in their lobby for late arrivals but we were not late. As we are standing outside 3 more customers came to watch the show with their tickets in hand. We told them to turn around b/c they would not be able to get in. What happened to the 5 extra tickets Jubilee that customers paid for in advance for one of your shows???? Not a very good experience and will not be back at this venue. read more
