The Jubilee Theatre's Mission Statement is: To create and present theatrical works which reflect the African-American experience. From my perspective, they do this very well. The Jubilee is a small intimate place to see passionate actors work their craft. I've been here a few times before, but it's been a while, and this was the first time back since discovering yelp. The theatre is great, though the show we came to see "Black Spurs" was a little disappointing, but still fun. The play was written by Celeste Bedford Walker and the music is by Ron Hasley. Preview was November 24, 2012 and the Play ran from November 30 through December 30, 2012. It's a family Musical about the colorful and diverse history that shaped the wild wild west. A young man sets out to avenge his father's death and save the family farm by joining a trail ride and winning a bull-riding contest. Along the way he meets a cast of characters that helped to tame the west. The main reason it was disappointing is that it was rushed through production. Before the show even started we were told it was a "work in progress", which I guess means it can only get better. Still, the Jubilee is a great theatre and definitely worth checking out. Ticket buying tip: Call the box office. You can buy tickets on-line, but you'll be hit with a per-ticket service charge. By calling the box office, there was a single flat-rate charge for the service. It saved several dollars per ticket. Matinee prices were around $9, evening prices around $15 (this may very by show, but the prices are consistently quite reasonable). PS. For more reviews, see the duplicate (http://www.yelp.com/biz/jubilee-theatre-fort-worth-2 - At least until both listings get combined.

This was my first at the Jubilee and I can not wait to return. It is such an intimate theatre. Every seat in the house is great! The staff is so warm and welcoming. They have a small concession area so you can enjoy wine, beer, soda, water, and snacks while you enjoy the show. Credit cards are accepted. Free valet parking, just be courteous and tip! Currently playing: The Delaney Sisters:Our First 100 years. I highly recommend this show before it leaves the Jubilee!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. The Jubilee Theatre rests in Sundance Square in the downtown area of Ft. Worth, I have been here many times, but have yet to write a review on this place. They have a steady stream of plays drama's and musicals throughout the year. I have always been amazed at the talent that constantly comes through this place. On my latest visit, I saw the Jubilation II musical. Very beautiful and very impressing experience. This is one of my shorter reviews because not much needs to be said. This is a a real gem and I'll always support this place. 5-Stars!

I'm a fan! It brings me that old school feel, which I totally love! The Story: Went here to see the play "Travelin" a 1930s Harlem Musical, back in April 2013. The play was cool, but the building itself was awesome! I love architecture, especially the ones that have history attached to it. Vibe: Nice Customer Service: Hmmm. how can I put this, I'm noticing that the "southern hospitality" is actually a myth. They say Californians are stuck up and New Yorkers are rude, well I beg to differ. Whilst purchasing tickets for my mom and I, we approached snotty looks at the counter. Which then totally ruined my mood ( I have anger issues like to the max, but I'm learning) :) This alone brought the 3 stars to this theatre.

A historically rich theater. Intimate and comforting. The seats are a little uncomfortable, but the amazing performances make up for it.

Set design, costumes, choreography, singing, music, acting were all top notch. Some of the things you should know before you go. 1) Parking can be a challenge because they don't have their own garage. There are several garages nearby (about a block walking distance), but you will want to arrive really early to make sure you have time to find a space, make your way to the theater, and find your seat before the show starts. We were coming from Richardson, so we knew we would need over an hour to travel there, but because of the parking situation, we left even earlier at 11:30 am for a 1:30pm show time start. 2) The building is quite modern. They have several entrances, but you may be asked to wait on the street in the elements before they open the doors and start scanning tickets. Be prepared to stand in the elements. 3) The seats are quite narrow and the arm rest is shared with your seat mate. If you are an average sized American, you might find the average seats quite uncomfortable. The person next to me was blubbering through her seat into mine. She was also very enthusiastic tapping along with the beat. Both things were unpleasant for me. There are box seats that have independent chairs. If I return to this venue, I will pay for one of these to avoid feeling like a sardine. They have an amazing line up of shows. I wish they were closer because I would definitely be a season ticket holder so that I could enjoy every single one of their amazing shows.

Prior to doors opening, you can have a alcoholic beverage or burger at the Backyard, which is a small bar under string-up lights. They have live music playing. The artist we saw playing, Don Burke, was very talented. My husband and I watched Pan Arcadia last night, it was a whimsical interpretation of the Peter Pan and Wendy story told by human actors as puppets (but also as themselves). I've got to admit I was very confused as to what was happening for many of the scenes but was able to get the general gist at the end. Let's just say- if you don't already know the Peter Pan story, I imagine you would be hopelessly lost. The live music was wonderful, fitting, soothing, and carried great for being in an outdoor theater. The acting was very sincere. Since you are exposed to the elements you might notice huge insects and spiders but they at least offer complimentary bug spray around the premises. This is a novel way to do date night and definitely worth a try.
