It's nice it's next to a tea store so you can sip while you work. I thought I'd be finished in an hour but we were there over 3. Initially I thought the prices were high, starting at about $32 for smaller sized things, but after seeing the work, time and tiles involved, it's more than fair. I would have liked for it to be staffed with a helpful person with tiling experience, but the clerk from Picasso's ceramic painting café ran back and forth checking on us and couldn't have been nicer. We were largely on our own, after a brief demo on how to cut tiles. (Needy people and children will perhaps not like the set-up/independence required.) They send you home with a bag of grout to finish it 24 hours after the glue sets. Inventory for tile boards was scant. The finished models showed you what finished products looked like but were not available to make. They had some mosaics on Lucite and had an area for making candles. It was a good first experience. I love the whole artist enclave vibe of the strip of stores here.

I was in Florida, visiting a friend, and talked her into making the 2 hour trip to Four Purls. Walking in, I was amazed! The place really is HUGE - the largest yarn shop I'v ever been in. The owners were really nice, explaining how the store in laid out with regard to the yarn weights. I asked about Cashmere yarn; they had it. Yak yarn; they had it. Yarns from countries that I didn't know produced yarns - Japan. They have their own private label yarn as well. This is a destination store if you're anywhere in Florida. If you use yarn in any way, you will love this place. I told my friend I'll be back to visit, if only to go back to Four Purls.

I had no reasons to visit Winter Haven (nothing there), but I found myself on the way from Tampa to Orlando on a Sunday so I stopped in. It's rare for a LYS to be open seven days a week - but they are so that was a definite plus. There's a decent amount of free parking on the street and in a nearby small lot. The store has a great selection, although I found it to be eaten up by a ton of Emma's yarns (local, but having one wall of it takes away from other yarns they could stock in my opinion). For example, I wish they stocked Cascade 220 since no stores nearby stock it. Although there is a yarn for everyone, and a few interesting finds (Biscotti self-striping, multicolored roving, art yarns, crochet animal kits). I met Noelle, and she was very sweet in helping me out, and showed me around the shop since it was my first time there. Overall, there's a good range of yarns organized by weight (my preferred layout for a LYS), and is definitely one of the top yarn stores I've been to in the Southeast.

They also have lots of Funko pops if you're into that type of thing. I even like the way they use the ticket gun to price various items in the store. It reminded me of the old school candy store with the little stickers label posted on it. The items look well cared for and wrapped very thoroughly and methodically. I believe lots of the items are fairly priced and not overwhelmingly expensive. I was most impressed with the miniature video game console that sat at the front counter that pre-dated the Atari. What surprise me most about this location is that they had a actual arcade in the back with various games from the 80s like contra, galaxa, pong, Qbert, dig, dug, streetfighter, or Pac-Man, and they even had a racing game.
