Don't commit to a tree service without comparing a quote from ATS! We have 7 large oak trees in our yard that needed pruning. Did the usual --asked our neighbors, compared ratings on Yelp-- and ended up with three wildly different quotes. The Arborist with Arundel Tree came across as the most genuine, told us what needed to be done and what could wait. On top of that, their pricing seemed very competitive. Day of the job, the team arrived early with shiny new equipment, did a thorough pre-job confirmation and got to work. After the post-job walk-around, they mulched every branch and left the yard better than they found it. Highly recommended start to finish. My only gripe is the 3% markup on credit card payment... They removed the tree & wood but did not grind the stump all the way to ground level, as agreed. Detailed review- We used Arundel Tree Service many years ago and I lost their information. They did an amazing job the first time around for a much smaller project. So much so that another company I hired to do a bigger job ended up being a disappointment compared to their level of service. The estimate process went super smoothly and was a 5/5 encounter. Don, the owner, showed up early, discussed several options, and stuck around to discuss all of my concerns. The rest of the process was a 2 or 3 out of 5, all because of a lack of communication. They require a 1/3 payment before they schedule jobs, which is fair. I paid the deposit and asked to be contacted when it cleared. That didn't happen, so I followed up and received confirmation a few days later. At that time I was informed that their crane was broken and needed to be repaired. It would take a couple of weeks before they started scheduling jobs again. Why I wasn't informed before paying the deposit seemed a little suspect. A couple weeks go by and no word. I reach out again and get the same message, crane still broken, waiting on parts, couple weeks out. This happens again and again until I finally receive an email at the end of July that it can be scheduled in early August, nearly 2 months after I sent my deposit. It could have been handled much better if they sent weekly or every other week updates instead of me having to think "hey, I haven't heard from them in a while, I should check on the status of things". Even a simple "Hey, sorry for the delay, the crane isn't fixed yet" would be better than radio silence. There were several miscommunications the day of the event. 1.The person in charge didn't bother knocking on the door to talk to me, they instead went to the yard to scope out things. Considering they weren't at the original estimate, it would have been helpful to ask me any clarifying questions. Maybe some homeowners prefer not to be bothered, but I wanted to make sure we were in agreement with what was going to be done and where. This came up when I made contact on two separate occasions, one to explain which trees the contract referenced and to discuss how they were going to handle a tree that had fallen on our fence. Someone wrote that it was a "pool fence" in the contract, so the guys were wandering around my property looking for a pool. Had they simply asked me I could have saved them some confusion. 2. I asked Don (estimator) and the office to leave some wood for bonfires. Instead of adding it as a note in the contract I was told to mention it to the work team. When I did, they seemed like it was a huge hassle. I figured it was a win-win, we get firewood and they don't have to drag it through our yard or cart it off. I was going to ask for something else, but decided not to after the easier request was met with such hesitancy. 3. The stump was supposed to be ground down after the tree was cut. This requires contacting miss utility for lines to be marked for safety reasons. During the estimation Don said they'd handle it. The day came and the stump grinder operator notices no lines are marked. Nobody called in advance to have them marked. He called the office and had them put in a request, which meant a 2nd day would be needed for stump grinding. While it was eventually handled, it wasn't taken care of when it should have been in my opinion. It was eventually handled a week and a half after the initial takedown, which is partly the fault of Miss Utility and Arundel Tree's lack of proper planning. 4. The crew left without saying a word. No "we're finished", "how do things look", "are you happy", "did we meet all aspects of the contract". Again, sort of seems like they're not used to dealing with people being home or prefer to have people contact the office if issues arise. They did a great job cleaning up my yard, which was where the previous company failed. The yard was raked, main areas were raked and blown, and general clean up occurred. If only they could work on communication between the estimator, office, ground crew, and consumer, things would easily be a 5 and they'd be a force to be reckoned with. As things are now, you almost have to pry information out of them. Honorable mention to the stump grinder. I missed his name, but he was the most congenial and communicative out of everyone (except maybe Don). He showed up one day because the office said our property had been marked by miss utility. I had spoken to the office a few days before and said no one had come around yet. Instead of being frustrated that he made the trip out, he was apologetic to me for stopping by again. Every time we interacted he made sure I knew he was there and what was going to happen, exactly the opposite of the ground crew. read more

The Arundel Tree Service gave me a fair price from the start. The tree to be taken down was a large maple and it was on my neighbor's property. The employees in the office helped me with the dual contract and were extremely helpful and pleasant. My other two children have used this company and were pleased with their work. I have my own company and was so impressed that the salesman was so knowledgeable about every aspect and familiarity of this particular field. They provided a detailed estimate and changed details that we needed changing. They were so efficient the crew showed up exactually the time scheduled. They had a problem with the telephone lines and my neighbor was angry that they were going to put some equipment in her yard. We said put everything in our yard nothing in hers she was yelling telling them to get out of her yard. Our houses are very close to each other; it was a hard job because they did not have much room in the yard. They were very professional with what was going on. They had the tree cut down in an hour, they worked steady until it was finished. They protected the plants in my yard, cleaned up everything before leaving, you would not even know that a tree was just cut down. After the job was completed, they went into the neighbors' yard to make sure there was no debris left from working. Extremely positive experience from start to finish. Came in with an estimate less than half of other local companies for removal of 14 trees and stump grinding in a back yard September 2018. Rescheduled job multiple times over 9 months despite site visits and verbal reports of "good conditions." Ultimately proposed new, 30% higher estimate after 8+ months of waiting and multiple cancellations, scheduled work again, and then cancelled altogether one month later. Have taken one month (and counting) to return deposit. Got the impression that they did not communicate with their subcontractors, would rather lie to a customer than say "no", and have no capability to do anything other than basic work. read more

This was one of the best experiences I've had with a contractor in years! They responded quickly to my request for a quote, gave me a very fair quote in a timely manner, and even worked with me on scheduling to work around bad weather. I had 8 trees, all over 40', removed along with the stumps. Watching them remove all those trees was like watching an orchestra. They did everything they could to reduce damage to the soil, cleaned up one area before starting on another, and left everything better than they found it. Arundel Tree Service: outstanding service from start to finish. From the initial phone call, estimation, of job, to the completion of the job a first rate group to work with. Office supplied useful information including insurance and licensing information. Ron did the estimate and he is a licensed tree expert, thus one has confidence trimming will be done safely to better maintain tree health. I decided I wanted a bit more trimming to be done after the initial estimate and the office was very accommodative in adding it to the contract. Ron was at the job to make sure that everyone on the same page before he left for other work. Tree cuts were accurate and one dead tree was removed and stump ground nice and deep. Crew communicated with me when work was being done to further insure that work was done to my satisfaction. Pricing was fair and reasonable relative to my other estimates as well. Consider hiring Arundel for your tree service! We called in October and they returned our call. The owner showed up to give us an estimate, which was reasonable,to trim down an out of control crepe myrtle. They sent us a contract which requires partial payment and a date (90-days later which was good for us since it was no emergency). They showed up on time with a crew of three men. They trimmed the entire tree/bush to 6 feet as requested, cleaned up the branches and the yard, mulched the limbs and took everything with them. EXCELLENT job!! Highly recommend! Used Arundel Tree for a big job. We had to take down 6 large trees that were in bad shape. The four man crew did a fantastic job. I couldn't have been any happier with this company. The crew was professional, showed up exactly when they said they would, and left my yard in great shape. Amazingly Efficient group!!! The Owner has a tremendous knowledge of his craft. It was a difficult decision to take the tree. The Arundle Tree Aservice expert came out and gave me all of the options good and bad and absolutly no pressure. Left the decision in our hands. So when we decided that it was inthe best intrest of the other trees that we had on property to take it down. They effeciently without damage to the yard or inconvience to the neighbors or street trafficI couldnt be happier. This place is a joke. I had a tree limb fall on my shed and I called them for a quote. Don came out that day and gave me a reasonable quote and said they could get the job done within a week or two. It has been 8 weeks since that quote, still nothing done. They have cancelled twice, both last minute as in the night before. The girl is an idiot, she promises to call to rebook but I always have to call them. They are unreliable and I would suggest using another company. They jerked me around for 2 months before I finally demanded a refund on my deposit (which they cashed the day after I gave it to them). This is not a reputable company, do yourselves a favor and choose someone else. read more

Wednesday still no phone call. When we did get someone on the phone, the response from the receptionist is that they're "still waiting to hear from the 'estimator' who was supposed to come out." The tree service contracted to remove a tree in November, 2015. They were give a down payment for the contracted work. In July, 2015, the work had not been completed. The company claimed that since they needed to gain access via the neighbor's yard, permission had to be obtained. The neighbor gave oral permission twice, but the company CLAIMED that the neighbor said he would not give permission. This information was never conveyed this information to us. In trying to discuss the problem with the owner of the company, in July, 2016, he said, "I don't have time for this.!" Never would recommend this company with so little respect for their customers. read more

They took down 5 of the trees in January, then have cancelled and rescheduled repeatedly over the past 8 months. We have had to chase them for new dates. We have been more than patient with them.
