We have used Nelson Tree Specialist in the past and were pleased, but it seems that their prices have gone sky-high. Two years ago, Nelson removed a huge pine from our back yard (using the crane) for $1800. We reached out to them again this year to remove two trees (medium-sized), and they got back to us with an estimate of $4500! That price sounded ridiculous, so we got another estimate from a reputable company -- $1400!! They did a great job and didn't need any heavy equipment. It took about 90 minutes. Shortly after, our neighbors got an estimate from Nelson for removal of two of their trees (large ones) -- $5000! After checking around, they contracted with another tree company for $1600. I'm not sure why Nelson's prices have more than doubled, but if you're thinking of using them, I would highly recommend getting another estimate. read more

We contacted Nelson Tree Specialist and set up an appointment for Antonio to come by. He was prompt, did a thorough walkthrough, and even found an issue that other companies hadn't noticed. Antonio was extremely responsive throughout the process, which took a day and a half or so. He readily answered my questions via text and called when necessary. The crew was amazing. They work hard and left the place spotless. We had 4 large pines removed, one young oak, and had several trees pruned/thinned. All for a very reasonable price. My neighbor used Nelson Tree Specialists and my neighbors and I found the employees rude and engaging in unsafe tree removal practices. The yard was full of tulip poplars that are quite tall and they were cutting them in half and letting whole, healthy trees smash to the ground. The earth shook and neighbors adjacent to the property felt afraid for their homes and the safety of family and pets. We hope they are never asked back to our neighborhood. read more

Definitely best of the best. Conscientious and professional as they come. Came out to house to look at what I wanted done to make sure they were clear. When the specialists came out to do the work they checked before starting and again after they finished to make sure I was happy with what was done. After they left, I realized there were a few remaining branches that I had wanted cut. I contacted the office right away They were completely receptive and sent someone out as soon as they could to finish it up. Yesterday at approximately 2:30 pm, your company Nelson Tree Specialists came onto my property and left huge trunks of trees in my backyard. I have contacted the police and have been instructed to file charges as this is illegal and is considered trespassing and illegal dumping. Please DO NOT come onto my property again illegally and dump other people's trees into my yard. This was unprofessional, harrasing, disrespectful, illegal and trespassing on my property and a violation of my civil rights as a citizen of the United States of America. I will be also contacting a lawyer today to find out the legal ramifications of your actions. I have spoken to Antonio to make sure this was not an oversight on your part and he stated to me, no he did it on purpose and pay me. Those were his words. That is harrassment. He also stated that he would be back with more trees to which i told him to stay off of my property. His reply was "do what you gotta do". I also have screenshotted the text messages so I have proof of our conversation as well. I told him i had setup payment arrangements and he responded with who? Pay me and All i want is my money. I thought I owed Nelson Tree Specialist. Why is your employee Antonio coming onto my property with other employees and dumping trees onto my lawn and into my driveway? I have camera surveillance all over my property so I have pictures and video of your employees at my front door, in my backyard and of the company truck with logo dumping these trees into my backyard. I have also contacted the Better Business Bureau and made them aware of this as well. I will also have to post this on Social Media and let others know that this is how you conduct business. Your company has an A+ rating so I am shocked by this behavior from a company such as yourself. This is for customer service and etiquette as I'm sure their tree cutting skills are great. This crew Decided that chopping down trees and grinding them up at 730 am I'm a neighborhood was a good way to start the day. I understand early bird gets the worm but it is down right rude and disrespectful towards families who work the night shift to start with the loud BS that early in the morning. I called to make a complaint and lady on the phone hung up on me rather than apologizing. Only adding to my frustrations early this am. Absolutely unprofessional of her and disrespectful of this company to even schedule anything this early... especially for a tree on a sidewalk. If you go to the BBB site, there is another negative review of this tree service by a NEIGHBOR. I am also the neighbor of someone who used Nelson's Tree Specialist 2x. Twice the service bashed trees on my property by lifting huge sections of tree trunk with a crane and swinging the trunks into my trees. Last summer, I chose to forgive the carelessness as I thought it was a situation that would not happen again. Today, they came back for another tree in my neighbor's front yard. Again, the crane operator swung the huge pieces of the tree into trees on my property. When I went out to confront them, they were completely contemptuous and said the trees were planted by the county, so it didn't matter what they did to them. No apologies from Nelson's from anyone I spoke to, not from the obviously incompetent crane operator, nor from the supervisor who came out later. Nelson's seems to have no respect for anyone (or the property of) anyone who is not handing them thousands of dollars. They sure as hell don't respect trees. Nelson is really great! I've have been using his service for years. Never a problem, never a job they can't handle, never a situation to large. I have never had an issue with Nelson. He always makes himself available if need be There was a dying tree directly bending my house which was becoming dangerous. I called Nelson, he came out the next day and told me "no problem". I was concerned because the tree was directly behind my house and there is no access. He said again "no problem" The next day, he showed up with a crew and a crane. I thought this was a good company from the reviews but i was wrong. They came out, this went well. they came out early but I was still at the doctor's office. Because I was to ill to go out and look at the work. I thought they had did the job and so i mailed in my payment. from the window it looked okay. But when I went out to check, the work was not done as stated. It seems that I paid 200dollars for a small branch removal. Nelson Tree Service was recommended by a coworker of my wife's last week. She called and got an estimate to grind a stump for $200 with a 10% discount if we scheduled for the very next day, which we did. She did not include having the debris and dirt from the grinding hauled away, but when I saw the way that pile was left behind-and that the workman had disconnected and moved some fencing around a small garden (4'x 6') near the stump-I called to schedule for the removal. The office person was not comfortable making a decision and connected me to Romeo who my wife originally contracted with. Romeo, for whatever reason, was immediately defensive toward my asking for additional service-even when I indicated that I wanted to PAY for the debris removal. He shot off that it would be another $200 and lectured me on how it was a 2-man job, that my wife never said there was anything behind the stump ( meaning the fencing) , etc. Based on his tone, I declined having him do the additional work and asked if they could just put the fence back. However, I dont expect to ever see them again and have since hired a teenager to remove the debris pile as an easy summer job for him. I don't know if Romeo is the owner of this business, but its clear to me that he would rather earn zero dollars to make his point than earn some more dollars to satisfy a customer. After getting 3 quotes for tree removal, we settled on Nelson Tree Specialists to do the job. They came in with the best estimate for the removal of 2 trees on our property; Despite paying a lower price, we did not get sub-par service. From Antonio's initial visit for the estimate to the completion of the job, all employees were prompt, efficient, and professional. They cut down and removed 2 large trees, one of which was inconveniently located in our fenced-in backyard where the bucket truck wouldnt reach. It was leaning against the beltway wall, so they had to be careful that cut branches didnt fall onto the road on the other side.They walked all the cut pieces (branches and trunk) through our backyard, side yard, and front yard to the truck in the muggy heat. The other tree was situated on an incline between our yard and our neighbor's yard, with electric lines on both sides. It was taken down with no problems whatsoever...to our property or our neighbor's property. The employees parked a bucket truck in our front yard for that tree and were happy to avoid parking on our sidewalk (where the weight could have caused it to crack) AND avoided parking on the side of the yard where our water lines were buried....just in case the weight of the truck might damage them. The guys also did some cleaning up of broken branches that were hung up in our very large pin oak for NO extra charge. For 35 minutes they had one man up in the bucket pulling down "dead wood" and sawing down problematic branches still attached, while the other guys picked up everything that fell and put it in the chopper. They did all this in just one day, cheerfully, leaving no mess behind. They even used the leaf blower to clean up the saw dust from the stump they ground up for us. My only cause for concern was the copy of their liability insurance (which was provided at the time of estimate) showed their insurance had expired. But a quick call to the insurance company (which youre supposed to do anyway to be certain of the legitimacy of said insurance) resulted in a more recent copy of their insurance certificate being emailed to me. I would definitely hire Nelson Tree Specialists again. read more
