For years the Dream Center has been a place where current and former foster youth can go if they need guidance and help. Their new location has more than doubled their square footage making it possible for them to provide new services for homeless and youth transitioning out of the foster care system. All of the same resources still exist. Some new additions include access to showers and washing machines. Youth can find a supportive community here. It is a spot where friends can be made and mentors can be found. There is no other place like this in Kern! I cannot say enough about how amazing this place is... The staff here is wonderful! From the front desk receptionist to the custodian; everyone who works here has a huge heart for youth and helping others. The youth I have had the pleasure of meeting throughout the years have been some of the smartest and most resilient human beings I've ever met. They are a real inspiration and I am so glad that Kern County has a place that is focused on helping their dreams become reality.

My nephew and brother n law wanted to play basketball. We heard they had a good indoor basketball court here so we decided to give it a try. We were greeted by the friendly staff. Their is a small fee for using their facilities. I believe it was less than $10 per person. Considering that the fee included everything they had there, we thought it was reasonable. I believe there is a monthly membership fee as well which is a better deal for locals. The facilities included a nice area with plenty of cardio equipment and free weights. There was even a small bowling alley with several lanes for people to enjoy. The basketball courts were very cool. There were plenty of basketball hoops for everyone. There were other areas there, but we did not explore them all. Playing indoor basketball was all we wanted to do. For a few hours that was all we did. When the temperatures are over 90 degrees, it was a pleasant surprise to find this place in Taft.

This is the first time ever I've been to a resource fair and there was something there for me to eat. This is one of the best pizzas I ever had. The owner was there. The outdoor area has a couple large grassy ares as well as a nice fully covered playground. There are some tables and chairs which could provide a nice picnic spot. There are large walkways that could be used at a walking path or even a bike area. 2 large parking lots provide plenty of parking as well. I don't live near here, but k can easily see this as a lovely gathering place for local families and the community. There is minimal shade in the grassy areas. But there are a few trees that people could gather under.

After all, if you served, and you pay taxes, you have earned every right to receive your benefits. I can't stress enough how important it is to get into the Vet Center and see what's going on BEFORE you get into a situation that requires you to need services. I say this because although the staff here are friendly and pretty fast (for a government agency), VA claims take a long time to process. While this is happening, you don't want to be in need. The Vet Center on Golden State has plenty of parking and an organized sign in system. They have a good bit of room in the waiting area, and seem very interested in getting you what you need. So, thanks for your service, and don't forget to take a look at the benefits you might have coming.
