1st appetizer: crunchy fish eggs, small fish (sardines?), octopus, black beans

This was one of the greatest culinary experiences I've had in the last few years. This is Kaiseki, which is essentially a 'tasting menu' but originally a Japanese tea ceremony dinner. It features raw fish that people unfamiliar with Kaiseki will expect, but so much more. The first course was small sardines, octopus, caviar... amazing. A few bites. The second course was a tuna 'meatball', with squid in sea urchin sauce, Japanese egg omelet, and daikon (Japanese radish.) Also excellent. Maybe 10 bites of food. The third course was a delicious, traditional Japanese soup. It was as good as the soup the famous kaiseki restaurant in New York (Sugiyama) used to feature until it closed. The fourth was a sushi "hand roll" that featured caviar, foie gras, rice, and kobe beef. One of the greatest bites of food I've ever had. Fifth was a Chilean sea bass cooked to perfection in miso paste-- one of the best I've ever had. Sixth was shabu-shabu (thinly sliced meat that you cook in boiling water) except that the protein was snapper, and the liquid was soup. Sublime. Seventh was a clam miso soup, the second-best I've ever had. Eighth was two pieces of amazing sushi (and laughably better than Kyo Sushi or Nobu, also in Mexico City) Finally dessert: a mandarin orange hollowed out serves as the 'bowl' and inside is mandarin orange jell-o and mixed fruit. Here's the amazing part-- he changes the menu every month. For me the gold standard for kaiseki was Sugiyama in New York. If that restaurant is a 100, this restaurant is a 95. Another amazing reason to come to Mexico City.

I was craving sushi and the food came out to be better than expected. However, when the barrived I noticed a 16% tax charge. This was first time I've seen such a charge after spending almost a month in Mexico. We paid and later confirmed it was a scam.

Authentic Japanese style using fresh local Mexican items and unique vegetables and fruits. Amazing service. Chef is ever present curating the 9 course meal he serves. Amazing service and great location tucked into Polanco. Very experienced chefs. Joyful and fresh. The 9 course menu changes monthly. One of the best new places in Mexico City. A must try.

    Uni and Waygu beef

I began by eating the omakase upstairs at Asai Sushi the week before. Excellent sushi made by Rogelio. Extremely fresh and inventive. Waygu, foie gras, caviar, incorporated with all kinds of fish, amazing presentations. Then ate at Asai Kaiseki the floor below. Outstanding multi course presentation under the guidance of Chef Asai. He said the menu should change monthly, I plan to be back. The service at both restaurants was excellent as well. Magda and Anna are so wonderful and beautiful. I look forward to my return.

It's in a trendy area and upscale although we came dressed mor casual. It's on the second floor and has amazing ambiance. We ordered the dynamite roll, crispy spicy tuna, truffle salmon, miso soups, caterpillar roll and tuna truffle roll. The truffle roll has to be one of the most amazing rolls I've ever eaten, if you like truffle of course. Everything else was amazing as well. The dynamite roll was great and I highly recommend literally everything we had. They also have great drinks, we had a mexcal maracuja drink and lychee martini as well as hot sake. For dessert we chose the tres leche cake and the truffle ice cream cream brûlée. If I say I have never tastes anything as amazing probably almost in my life as this truffle ice cream!! I know if we would have gone to a restaurant of this magnitude in the states it would have cost double of what we paid here. The service was excellent and Samuel and everyone was so attentive.

Wrong, the food was great, beautiful people seated everywhere and friendly, warm servers. Smoking was allowed in the restaurant. Even though none of our party smoked, the tables were spaced far apart enough that it wasn't an issue. Very, very good sushi/sashimi. Not Masa, Nobu or Morimoto good, but could hold its own amongst most other well regarded Japanese restaurants. Glad we were able to find this so close to our Polanco hotel. If you're looking for good sushi/sashimi in CDMX, you won't be disappointed here.

We make it a family tradition to eat sushi in every city we visit. Being in Polanco, Mexico City's…read moretrendiest neighborhood, we assumed we were about to experience sushi greatness. To be fair--the quality of the fish was five stars. No complaints lthere.Unfortunately, that's where the smooth horse ride became a donkey ride. The service was a solid two stars. Our waiter was clearly trying his best, but this restaurant desperately needs another waiter. We waited so long for sauces that by the time they arrived, we were already halfway through the rolls. It took about 20 minutes for the first dish, and we ordered what we normally order for my wife and I and our 3 teenagers six dishes for five, which then arrived one... at a... time... with long, awkward pauses in between. The specialty rolls are teenie Weenie and very skimpy on the fish. One of my sons wanted another roll but not willing to wait. Best roll of the night was the Alaska roll--credit where credit is due. Now let's talk money. I don't mind spending on good sushi. I expect to. But $3,950 pesos ($232 USD before tip) for five people and leaving less full than a typical sushi night in Los Angeles? That one hurt. Back home, we eat for the same price--and we leave satisfied. Upside: only three green teas were ordered, but they were excellent, high-quality, and probably the most consistent thing all night. Bottom line: amazing fish, painfully slow service, small portions, and a bill that made us double-check the exchange rate. If you come here, drink a full glass of water beforehand to feel satiated--or bring a snack. I wanted to give them a three but I always do with my wife wants and she said give them a four to be nice.

We were seated right away without a reservation. Loved the decor and the casual, intimate atmosphere. We tried the sashimi, vegetable gyoza, salmon don, wagyu beef, seafood fried rice, and finished with the chocolate cake for dessert. Everything was delicious. If I had to offer a critique, I'd say the wagyu was just okay--not bad, just okay. Deep respect to the kitchen for executing such a comprehensive menu. The consistency shines through not just in the high-ticket items but also in the staples like gyoza and fried rice.

You can scan the QR code to pull up the menu. It was in both Spanish and English. The menu was extensive, a little something for everyone. There was ramen, rice bowl, udon, sushi, sashimi, shabu, maki, nigiri, etc.   I tried the maguro mix don that had chu-toro, o-toro, and akami on top of white rice. This was a perfectly balanced meal. A good fatty texture on the sashimi. Rice to fish ratio was also good. It was refreshing from all the food we've been eating in CDMX. We all enjoyed our don and ramen.   Service was a bit slow regarding when our food came out but they brought out everyone's food at the same time. The restroom was clean as well. The indoor seating looks spacious. Overall, we enjoyed our meal here and would recommend this spot if you're looking for Japanese food in the Roma Norte area.

The night that we went, they had a DJ playing, which added another level to the vibes. This seems like a versatile spot, good for both larger groups or intimate dinners. My friend and I started our meal with the soft shell crab bao buns. These were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend. For our mains, we split the Korean fried chicken, duck breast burnt ends, baby bok choy, and Japanese sweet potato. Every single thing we had was tasty! The chicken was perfectly fried and seasoned. The duck breast was cooked well, and the sauce was a perfect complement. My favorite item was the Japanese sweet potato comes topped with white miso and black sugar better. The flavors melded together so perfectly and the potato was savory. The presentation at the table was also interesting. In addition to the food, we each ordered a couple of cocktails. Both the funky monkey and Pyro drinks were well made, with another great table presentation when served. While there was a rowdy party next to our table that annoyed us, the food, drinks and service from beginning to end more than made up for that. I highly recommend stopping here for a meal and some drinks if you ever find yourself in Mexico City.
