My grandmother has lived here for over a year due to her new diagnosis of dementia, There have been so many issues that we continue to deal with as a family! This facility does not make their elderly clients a priority, and it is very clear as to how it is ran! We almost had a med error as they have a patient at their facility with a similar last name and if family wasn't paying attention, she would have been given the wrong medication! We continue to have to call the facility to ensure that she is being showered, her laundry is being washed, and her room is cleaned appropriately! Of late, the biggest issue has been the facility being infested with big bugs, It took them over 48 hours to address while my grandmother slept on her couch because her mattress was covered in bedbugs and they told us there was no other place to relocate her to, So we took her out of the facility for four weeks so they could deal with the issue. After several emails and phone calls, because they do not do as they say they are going to do, they finally got her a new apartment and did not even bother to move all of her things. Our family had to take on the burden of moving her once again! We asked for financial compensation for the four weeks that she was not there at the facility and still have not gotten an answer and that has been over two months ago! We continue to be unhappy with this facility as they do not make their residence a priority. I do not recommend this facility to anyone for their elderly loved ones! read more

My mother-in-law moved into Asbury Court with her husband, she suffered from dementia. Good for him because he is reasonably self-sufficient, but not so good for her. From what I observed Asbury Court is not well equipped to help elders who are in need of special care and especially those with dementia. Public Medicare assisted elder care care suffers from under staffing, low pay and unqualified caregivers who are not properly trained. Asbury Court is no exception. Their website lists memory care, please do not be fooled. The only memory care that I witnessed was over medication to be placed in a docile and non-functional state of mind and body. While some attendants are kind and empathetic at Asbury Court, many lack the skills and motivation to deal with difficult cases like my mother-in-law and her family members. Is there a better public funded facility out there for elders who suffer from dementia? I hope so, and maybe you can find one! Our baby boomer population generation is fueling a 75% increase in the number of people age 65 and older requiring nursing home care. read more

I have been very impressed with the care that my friend has received since he moved into Asbury Court in June 2024 in supportive living. The staff has been consistently helpful, thoughtful and kind to him, and to me as a visitor. When he first arrived, he was sure that he would bypass all of the activities being offered. With their gentle invitations, he stepped out of his comfort zone. It is heartwarming to see that he now frequents the exercise class, attends the ice cream socials, birthday parties, and checks out other game days and discussions. He is socializing and has made friends. It is so good to know that he is no longer isolated. read more

My brother moved in to Asbury court a year ago in the memory care unit. It is a rough decision moving a family member to an assisted living facility. The staff at Asbury court goes above and beyond taking care of the tenants. From the nursing staff to the maintenance manager to Director of operations they all are very easy to approach and take very special care of your family members. They made it easy for me to sleep at night knowing they are taking such great care of my brother. Thanks for all you do Asbury court. Special shout out to the entertainment staff. They keep my brother happy with all the singers and entertainers that come to the facility. read more

My father became a resident of Asbury Court in 2018 and was a resident for five years until his death at the end of 2023. When we initiated the services of Asbury Court, we were eager to move in because they accepted residents based on their Social Security income. My father wanted to remain independent without the financial support of his children, and Asbury had everything he needed. When moving in, we were greeted with helpfulness and smiling faces. As his youngest child and emergency contact, this was a relief. During the beginning of his residence, my family was pleased he had met new friends and we were able to attend holiday events in the common area. A few months after he moved in, we were allowed to use the common area in the evening for a small birthday party for my dad. After Sue and Tiffany left, things changed negatively due to new management, Chris Cortez and Patty Honan. My dad saw the unsavory changes in the facility and tried to rectify the issues for all residents. His efforts to improve things, resulted in the facility management harassing my father with unjust rent increases while there was a decrease in the quality of the living environment. My father feared leaving his room during the day and the premises believing it would result in an illegal eviction or him being denied reentry. Resulting in my dad missing countless family events and holidays. I urged my dad to move from Asbury Courts for several years before his death, but he became a spokesman for about 60 residents. The other residents were afraid of being displaced if they used their voices. He took this role even though it was an unwinnable battle which resulted in extreme stress and a lower quality of life for him. I urge anyone considering moving a proud family member into this facility, try to be very present and involved because if not, the administration and staff will mistreat those you love the most. Also, have a trusted family member secure all valuables and family heirlooms safely off the premises. He took his last breath at Asbury, and I soon understood the complaints he made during our phone conversations. Unfortunately, residents living on $90 a month are unable to afford legal assistance and are left to deal with the neglect and mistreatment as seen by staff at Asbury Court's Facility. Many staff members take advantage of the financially disadvantaged residents which creates an unpleasant living environment. They are not doing God's Work! My concerns as a grieving daughter: -At the time of my father's death, the facility did not use the emergency contact information to contact me. They repeatedly called his cell phone to give notification of his death. My family wasn't notified of his death until a county sheriff contacted us later that evening. -Lee Sartin and his crew were my biggest concern: Lee Sartin had my father's vehicle towed from the premises and destroyed before we were even aware of his passing. When confronted about this, he showed no regard for the loss. I received notification from a friend within the facility that my father's room had been trespassed without consent. I reached out to have a red lock put on the door. When I arrived to inspect the space, I couldn't find his wallet or medications. I was told at that time that we had ten days to remove his belongings. I returned with five of my siblings plus some spouses and we searched for his wallet, medications, and some family heirlooms as we cleaned the space without luck finding them. Until Kyle, part of the maintenance crew, returned the wallet and a coin collection stating we threw them in the trash. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in finding other more valuable items. -I later met with Chris Cortez (Executive Director) and Lee Sartin (Maintenance Director), and their responses were filled with unhelpful doubt. -When finalizing his affairs, I requested a final statement from the facility. I was informed there was a zero balance but I was never provided anything in writing. The stress he endured because of the alleged "rent increases" was all for nothing. I know this stress and mistreatment by staff led to his early death and it is truly disheartening. Here are the complaints my dearest dad had while he was alive: -Lack of privacy and security -Lack of communication from the administration. -Administration and staff are unwilling to listen to residents' ideas and issues to improve their living conditions. -The maintenance in the building is not adequately maintained outside of the public's eyes. -The dining room does not provide healthy meals and the quality, cleanliness, and service are inconsistent and unreliable. -Clergymen no longer come to minister to the residents. -When signing the contract to become a resident, Danny made it seem like residents could use all areas of the facility, but the rehab center and other areas are restricted. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1s5qqNCowY-ymF31XyAj17Rjj9tMc read more

The admissions director was so wonderful to work with. She is knowledgeable, guided us through every step and worked with the rehab facility to get my sister in law moved in quickly. Everyone we have interacted with to date has been so friendly, kind and helpful. The residents have gone out of their way to welcome my sister in law. Danny the Sales Manager does an incredible job keeping the place as full as possible. Learning of the situation in which I had been living he Fast Tracked my admission and got me in to a great studio apartment (including a queen-size bed, furniture, and smart TV) in short order. I've been here for nearly three months now and I couldn't be more pleased with everything about Asbury Court. Among the many amenities are weekly laundry and housekeeping as well as on-site Barber / Beauty services. There is even a Starbucks on campus. All rooms have refrigerators and microwaves as well as private bathrooms / showers. I'm in the independent living section but they also have supportive and assisted living available as well as a full scale Skilled Nursing Facility. In addition there is medical staff on-site 24/7. Rhonda The Clinical Director is always available to answer any medical questions. Patty the Social Services Director has been very helpful in tending to little details that make life easier. Megan the Activities Director along with the assistance of Sylvia, Eric, and Paulhina make sure that there are plenty of activities to keep residents busy. These activities include a weekly shopping trip as well as regular outings to restaurants and other attractions. There is always someone stationed at the front desk for security, but Pat who works days is the go to person for just about anything. She seems to have her finger on the pulse of the entire operation and although she won't admit it she could probably run the place by herself. The food isn't exactly five stars but it's not bad at all and there is always a good variety available. It's served restaurant style in the main dining room. In room dining is available upon request. All In all I would have to say that living at Asbury Court is a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone considering a place for themselves or loved ones. Medicare and Medicaid patients are welcome. read more

I have my family member staying here and this place is full of BED BUGS. Reported multiple times to the management and nothing is being done about it (apparently they are treating for a year but the bugs are still here). I am surprised this place is still operational. I am not sure why or how the STATE is not doing anything about this or closing this facility down. Not a right way to treat or manage our older generation. read more

If I could I would give Asbury Court zero Stars. Please be careful before admitting a loved one to Asbury Court as to their abilities to live in a supportive environment. My mother is 90 years old and they gave her an assessment that said she was able to live at Asbury Court. She was not, we would visit her quite often she'd be sitting in her depends completely full of urine. They also did not put on her support socks correctly they were all jacked up I have pictures if I could send to this site I'm not sure. Daniel the sales manager?? I don't understand what they're selling?? Is very arrogant. They require a $2,500 non-refundable down payment. My mom lasted maybe a couple weeks we needed to take her out and put her in a safe environment we took her to Lee Manor nursing home. I have been constantly calling Colette the director of Asbury Sara the manager of Asbury Rhonda the nursing manager ??of Asbury and I also reached out to Mike Zappos the CFO of Asbury. I am trying to get a copy of my mother's assessment record. I have been in contact with these people many times asking for a refund. They will not refund our money. I think my mom was put in Asbury in error. They will not send me proof of her assessment, they will not return my calls. So please be very careful before you send a loved one to Asbury Court in Des Plaines. They are not very nice people. And I guess they think they will never get old. But karma is a B....! read more

I have been in Asbury Court for two years. Housekeeping is very good, I couldn't do without them. The laundry service does excellent job; they fold up my shirts, like I bought out of a store shelf. People around here are friendly and carry on a nice conversation. The facility itself is clean and well-maintained. Activities have been improved since Brea, Director of Events, came on board. We do have more events and entertainment. For example, we have outside food brought in and the staff members volunteer to be our servers. read more

Be realistic about your loved one's condition. Marketing will take anyone and does a superficial assessment and while the staff is really kind and compassionate-not equipped to handle complex needs and emergencies. And absolutely avoid Dr, Fishman at all costs. read more

I have a relative at Asbury and I would move in there if I could. The restaurant style dining is better than described and the place is so full of lively, happy residents. I like that it's such an active community. People are always doing something and not just sitting around. The place looks like they're trying to fix it up and make it more attractive. Wellness checks are a normal part of the care at Asbury and you just get the feeling that the staff really knows the people and care about them deeply. No worries from me about having a relative live there. I was told that there is something called independent living aside from the supportive living where my relative lives. They offer so many varieties of care that it really blew my mind. The guy in charge came out and shook our hands when we moved my relative in. It's hard not to develop a crush on the man...I think his name is John. He has the best genuine smile ever! Asbury delivered on everything they said they would and I recommend them as a retirement community. Getting old can be rough but Asbury is the perfect place to go! read more

Absolutely wonderful! I had an unexpected emergency to find my mother an assisted living/independent living place within a short time. I talked with Daniel B. who was very accommodating and worked with my schedule. He stayed late so we could come in the same day we spoke. We took a tour and I was blown away at everything Asbury had to offer. They have restaurant style meals, a theater room, library, chapel, birds in a beautiful cage, outings to various places, a hair/nail room, and get this, a Starbucks. I mean how cool is that? On top of all that, Asbury is super clean and newly renovated. They knew the residents by name and you could tell the residents were happy because everyone I passed said hello to me with a big smile on their face. It was go for mom to get into Asbury and Daniel came in on his day off so we could get her signed up and moved in. He did all this in under 48 hours. I cannot thank Daniel and the staff at Asbury enough for everything they have done. I have been telling everyone about my great experience with Asbury and will continue to do so. read more

My family never worried about her and the staff genuinely cared for her as a person. During her time there, she made many friends (including staff) and her room was bright and cheery.
