It is open to all, but there are many retired nuns living here. On a side note- nuns do not receive any pension when they retire and many work as teachers and nurses, well into their 80's. It's a hard life. I believe that quality of life is the most important aspect of maintaining your health into a ripe old age. The combination of a home-like atmosphere, offering wholesome living, balanced nutritional programs with menu selection, medication supervision, social events and entertainment are what I believe makes Nazarethville so incredible. I was there on a Saturday with my seven year old niece. Her entire class was there to assist the residents in a lively session of bingo. The school requested that we bring a little gift- to be given as prizes to the winners. Apparently tissue is in big demand, because it is not provided and must be purchased by the residents. In addition to this, many people brought little stuffed animals and puzzle books and such. To see the joy and watch the faces of the residents light up when the children arrive is truly wonderful. The children enjoy themselves as well. It's really a win-win combination. Whenever the residents won at bingo, they were able to choose a gift. Although they desperately needed the Kleenex, they all chose the stuffed animals, and then the books and always gave the prize to the child that was assisting them. I can happily tell you that they organize these type of events on a monthly basis. They also have occasions where (well trained) dogs come in with their trainers for a visit. Another big hit! The facility is spotless and adorned with the most beautiful and inspiring artwork.- all painted by a resident. Sister Jolanta. Her beautiful paintings emit a magical light- similar to the work of Thomas Kinkade. She was an art teacher for many years, but I don't believe you can learn to paint like that. It's a gift from God. So remember, if you find any tissue on sale, buy a little extra and stop in Nazarethville. You'll be happy that you did : )

While I ensured her safety, I second guessed my decisions as she vocally struggled to adjust; it was a lot of change particularly for someone who rarely left her home. Almost 6 months in, a different set of doubts & worries took over. Did I make the right call, could she live somewhere more affordable, would she outlive her money, etc. I don't even recall what search term led me to Senior Living Experts, but I'm grateful. Rebecca listened to my story and made me feel less alone. She thought where my mom was at was the best option in terms of cost, desired location and care needs addressed, but would do the research and circle back. We also discussed the care she received currently and provided a few suggestions. As promised, Rebecca followed up and confirmed her initial assessment. Yes, I'll still worry about her finances, but I now have a better understanding of the landscape and what comes should her care needs increase. If I had a do over, I would have started with Senior Living Experts, they are amazing!

I felt depressed walking into most, to be quite honest. When I met Kelly from Oakton Arms and took a tour, I knew that it was where I wanted my Grandfather to be. The food in memory care is bad and not nutritionally balanced. For example, they will bring a meal without ANY carbs, often neglecting to provide plastic eating utensils, a drink or napkins. If you're not there for every meal, you have no idea if your loved one is eating or not. If you speak to management, they will promise to do something, but they never seem able to resolve even the simplest of issues. Moreover, they NEVER follow up with status, no matter how many times you report the same issue. Management is generally unprofessional and pathetic! They don't clean the rooms properly and will make excuses or blame your loved one if you complain. Overall, most of the staff are indifferent at best. Most of the staff don't know how to deal with hearing aids so they usually sit in the charger. You would think this would be easy for a retirement home, but nothing is easy there. Again, if you're not there most of the time you'll have no idea what's going on.

This place is 50/50…read more Multiple people on multiple floors have complained about wrong medication.4th, 3rd, 1st floors. The primary issues are in 6 months I have seen nurse practitioners not doctors. After 6 months of not being listened to I filled a formal complaint with the Illinois Department of Health. I was also interviewing 3 attorneys. All of a sudden the nursing director was fired and I met with the new director of nursing. She genuinely is working to correct the problems. I thanked the new director and I withdrew my health department complaint and stopped talking with the 3 law firms. The facility was moving in a positive direction. I felt that I needed to step back and let the new staff handle it & they are. Where I used to not feel heard I now see progress. For that I am very grateful.
